¹ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਰਾਜੇ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ, ਗਲੀਲੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਕ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੀ ਖਬਰ ਸੁਣੀ।

¹At that time, Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,

²ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੋਕਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਮੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜੀ ਉਠਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਚਮਤਕਾਰੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ।”

²and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptizer. He is risen from the dead. That is why these powers work in him.”

³ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਾਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਫ਼ਿਲਿਪੁੱਸ ਦੀ ਤੀਵੀਂ ਹੇਰੋਦਿਯਾਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਡ਼ਕੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕੈਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ।

³For Herod had laid hold of John, and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.

⁴ਉਸਨੇ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਲਈ ਕੈਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ, ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਹੇਰੋਦਿਯਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਯੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ।”

⁴For John said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”

⁵ਉਹ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਬੀ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।

⁵When he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

⁶ਪਰ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਦੇ ਜਨਮਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਹੇਰੋਦਿਯਾਸ ਦੀ ਧੀ, ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਨਚ੍ਚੀ। ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਉਸਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਇਆ।

⁶But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced among them and pleased Herod.

⁷ਤਾਂ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਨੇ ਸੌਂਹ ਖਾਕੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ, ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਮੰਗੇ, ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਇਕਰਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।

⁷Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.

⁸ਉਸਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਦਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕੀ ਮੰਗੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਹੁਣੇ ਇਥੇ ਥਾਲ ਤੇ ਰਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਦਿਉ।”

⁸She, being prompted by her mother, said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptizer.”

⁹ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਉਦਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਪਰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸੌਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ, ਜਿਹਡ਼ੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ, ਉਸਨੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਉਸਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਪੂਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ।

⁹The king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths, and of those who sat at the table with him, he commanded it to be given,

¹⁰ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਕੇ ਕੈਦਖਾਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਵਢਵਾ ਸੁਟਿਆ।

¹⁰and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.

¹¹ਫ਼ੇਰ ਉਸਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਥਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਕੁਡ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਹ ਸਿਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ ਹੇਰੋਦਿਯਾਸ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਗਈ।

¹¹His head was brought on a platter, and given to the young lady: and she brought it to her mother.

¹²ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਥੇ ਜਾਕੇ ਲੋਥ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਦਬਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਕੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਖਬਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।

¹²His disciples came, and took the body, and buried it; and they went and told Jesus.

¹³ਜਦੋਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇੱਕਲਾ ਬੇਡ਼ੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠਕੇ ਇੱਕ ਇਕਾਂਤ ਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ। ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸੁਣਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਨਗਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਪੈਦਲ ਤੁਰ ਪਏ।

¹³Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat, to a deserted place apart. When the multitudes heard it, they followed him on foot from the cities.

¹⁴ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਬੇਡ਼ੀ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਰਿਆ, ਉਥੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੀ ਭੀਡ਼ ਵੇਖੀ। ਉਸਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਤਰਸ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਗੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਕੀਤਾ।

¹⁴Jesus went out, and he saw a great multitude. He had compassion on them, and healed their sick.

¹⁵ਜਦੋਂ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਹੋਈ ਤਾਂ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਆਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਹ ਉਜਾਡ਼ ਥਾਂ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਕੁਵੇਲਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿਉ ਤਾਮ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਸਕਣ। ਅਤੇ ਆਪਾਣੇ ਲਈ ਖਾਣਾ-ਦਾਣਾ ਮੁਲ੍ਲ ਲੈਣ।”

¹⁵When evening had come, his disciples came to him, saying, “This place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.”

¹⁶ਪਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਲੋਡ਼ ਨਹੀਂ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਵੋ।”

¹⁶But Jesus said to them, “They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

¹⁷ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪਰ ਏਥੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪੰਜ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਦੋ ਮਛੀਆਂ ਹਨ।”

¹⁷They told him, “We only have here five loaves and two fish.”

¹⁸ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਉਹ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਮਛੀਆਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਲਿਆਓ।”

¹⁸He said, “Bring them here to me.”

¹⁹ਫ਼ੇਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਭੀਡ਼ ਨੂੰ ਘਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠਣ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਸਨੇ ਪੰਜ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਦੋ ਮਛੀਆਂ ਲਈਆਂ: ਉਸਨੇ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਵੱਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਲਈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੁਕਰਾਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਫ਼ਿਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਵੰਡਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ। ਅਤੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੰਡ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ।

¹⁹He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave to the multitudes.

²⁰ਸਭ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਰੱਜ ਕੇ ਖਾਧਾ, ਖਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਬਚੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਟੁਕਡ਼ਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਟੋਕਰੀਆਂ ਭਰੀਆਂ।

²⁰They all ate, and were filled. They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.

²¹ਉਥੇ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਮਿਲਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਕੁਲ ਪੰਜ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਸਨ।

²¹Those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

²²ਉਸਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ, ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਡ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੈਠਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਝੀਲ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਇੰਤਜ਼ਾਰ ਕਰਨ।

²²Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat, and to go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

²³ਭੀਡ਼ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਭੇਜਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ, ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਪਹਾਡ਼ ਉੱਤੇ ਚਢ਼ ਗਿਆ। ਜਦੋਂ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਹੋਈ, ਉਹ ਉਥੇ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਹੀ ਸੀ।

²³After he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.

²⁴ਬੇਡ਼ੀ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਕੰਢੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੂਰ ਸੀ। ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਬੇਡ਼ੀ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ। ਹਵਾ ਉਲਟੀ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਤੋਂ ਵਗ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ।

²⁴But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.

²⁵ਸਵੇਰ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਅਤੇ ਛੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਝੀਲ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ।

²⁵In the fourth watch of the night, The night was equally divided into four watches, so the fourth watch is approximately 3:00 A. M. to sunrise. Jesus came to them, walking on the sea. see Job 9:8

²⁶ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਝੀਲ ਦੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਤੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਘਬਰਾ ਕੇ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗੇ, “ਇਹ ਕੋਈ ਭੂਤ ਹੈ।” ਉਹ ਡਰ ਨਾਲ ਚੀਕ ਉਠੇ।

²⁶When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It’s a ghost!” and they cried out for fear.

²⁷ਪਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਝੱਟ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਘਬਰਾਓ ਨਾ! ਇਹ ਮੈਂ ਹਾਂ, ਡਰੋ ਨਾ।”

²⁷But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying “Cheer up! It is I! or, I AM! Don’t be afraid.”

²⁸ਤਦ ਪਤਰਸ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ, ਜੇਕਰ ਇਹ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਹੋ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਣ ਦਾ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇਵੋ।”

²⁸Peter answered him and said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters.”

²⁹ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪਤਰਸ, ਆ ਜਾ!” ਤਦ ਬੇਡ਼ੀਉਂ ਉਤਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਪਤਰਸ ਪਾਣੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਵੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰਿਆ।

²⁹He said, “Come!” Peter stepped down from the boat, and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.

³⁰ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਤਰਸ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਤਾਂ, ਉਸਨੇ ਭਾਰੀ ਹਵਾ ਦਾ ਬੁੱਲਾ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਡਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੁੱਬਣ ਲੱਗਾ। ਪਤਰਸ ਚੀਕਿਆ, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਓ!”

³⁰But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

³¹ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਾਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਨਾਲ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੈਨੂੰ ਘੱਟ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਕਿਉਂ ਕੀਤਾ?”

³¹Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

³²ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਬੇਡ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਚਢ਼ ਗਏ ਤਾਂ ਪੌਣ ਥੰਮ ਗਈ।

³²When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.

³³ਫ਼ੇਰ, ਉਹ ਜਿਹਡ਼ੇ ਬੇਡ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਉਪਸਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੈਂ।”

³³Those who were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, “You are truly the Son of God!”

³⁴ਉਹ ਝੀਲ ਦੇ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਕੇ ਗੰਨੇਸਰਤ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਉੱਤਰੇ।

³⁴When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.

³⁵ਜਦੋਂ ਉਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਸੇ-ਪਾਸੇ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਕਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਬਰ ਫ਼ੈਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਬਿਮਾਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ।

³⁵When the people of that place recognized him, they sent into all that surrounding region, and brought to him all who were sick,

³⁶ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਛੋਹਣ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਦੇਵੇ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਭ ਨੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਛੋਹਿਆ, ਚੰਗੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ।

³⁶and they begged him that they might just touch the fringe or, tassel of his garment. As many as touched it were made whole.
