¹ ای قوم بی‌شرم، پیش از آن که مانند کاه در برابر باد رانده شوید، قبل از آن که روزِ هولناک خشم خداوند ناگهان برسد و همه‌چیز را در سر راه خود از بین ببرد، به خود آیید.

¹Collect yourselves and gather together, O nation without shame,

² ای فروتنان که احکام او را بجا می‌آورید، درستکار باشید و در پیشگاه خداوند فروتن شوید، شاید در آن روز شما را از خشم خود برهاند.

²before the decree bring forth, [before] the day pass away as chaff, before the fierce anger of Jehovah come upon you, before the day of Jehovah's anger come upon you.

³ کسی در شهر غزه باقی نخواهد ماند، اشقلون ویران خواهد شد و مردم اشدود در نصف روز بیرون رانده خواهند شد و اهالی عقرون از شهر خود خواهند گریخت.

³Seek Jehovah, all ye meek of the land, who have performed his ordinance; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of Jehovah's anger.

⁴ وای به حال شما فلسطینیانی که در ساحل دریا و در سرزمین کنعان سکونت دارید، زیرا شما محکوم به مرگ هستید و خداوند شما را نابود می‌سازد. حتّی یک نفر از شما را هم زنده نمی‌گذارد.

⁴For Gazah shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon shall be a desolation; they shall drive out Ashdod at noonday, and Ekron shall be rooted up.

⁵ زمینهای ساحلی شما چراگاهی برای چوپانها و آغل گوسفندان خواهد شد.

⁵Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea-coast, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of Jehovah is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines: I will destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant;

⁶ بازماندگان طایفهٔ یهودا، سرزمین شما را تسخیر خواهند نمود و گلّه‌های خود را در آنجا خواهند چرانید و در خانه‌های اشقلون خواهند خوابید، زیرا خداوند متعال با قوم خود مهربان است و آنها را دوباره سعادتمند می‌گرداند.

⁶and the sea-coast shall be cave-dwellings for shepherds, and folds for flocks.

⁷ خداوند متعال می‌فرماید: «من طعنه‌های مردم موآب را شنیده‌ام و دیدم که عمونیان چطور قوم مرا تحقیر و مسخره می‌کردند و با غرور می‌گفتند که سرزمین آنها را اشغال خواهند کرد.

⁷And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for Jehovah their God shall visit them, and turn again their captivity.

⁸ به حیات خودم قسم که موآب و عمون مانند سدوم و غموره نابود می‌گردند و به محل خارها و گودال نمک و ویرانهٔ ابدی تبدیل می‌شوند و بازماندگان قوم من سرزمین آنها را تصرّف خواهند کرد.»

⁸I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, wherewith they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border.

⁹ مردم موآب و عمون به‌خاطر غرور خود به چنین سرنوشتی دچار می‌شوند، زیرا به قوم خداوند متعال اهانت کرده، آنها را مسخره نمودند.

⁹Therefore, [as] I live, saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Moab shall certainly be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles, and salt-pits, and a perpetual desolation; the remnant of my people shall spoil them, and the residue of my nation shall possess them.

¹⁰ خداوند آنها را به بلاهای دهشتناکی دچار می‌سازد و همهٔ خدایان روی زمین را بی‌اعتبار می‌گرداند. آنگاه تمام اقوام جهان در سرزمینهای خود، او را پرستش خواهند نمود.

¹⁰This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of Jehovah of hosts.

¹¹ ای مردم حبشه، خداوند شما را نیز با شمشیر خود هلاک می‌کند.

¹¹Jehovah will be terrible unto them; for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and all the isles of the nations shall worship him, every one from his place.

¹² خداوند با قدرت خودش آشور را نابود می‌سازد. پایتخت آن، نینوا را به بیابان خشک تبدیل می‌کند.

¹²Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be the slain of my sword.

¹³ آنجا چراگاه گوسفندان و محل زندگی انواع حیوانات می‌شود. جغدها در ویرانه‌های آن آشیانه می‌کنند و صدایشان از پنجره‌های خانه‌ها به گوش می‌رسد. زاغها در آستانهٔ خانه‌ها آواز می‌خوانند و چوبهای سرو که در بنای عمارات به کار برده شده بودند، از بین می‌روند. این شهر که موجب افتخار و محل رفاه و آسایش مردمش بود عاقبت به این سرنوشت دچار می‌گردد، مردم آن فکر می‌کردند که در تمام دنیا شهری مانند شهر آنها وجود ندارد. امّا سرانجام ویران و متروک می‌گردد و کُنام حیوانات وحشی می‌شود و هرکسی که از آنجا بگذرد، سر خود را تکان خواهد داد و حیرت خواهد کرد.

¹³And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, a place of drought like the wilderness.

¹⁴ این شهر که موجب افتخار و محل رفاه و آسایش مردمش بود عاقبت به این سرنوشت دچار می‌گردد، مردم آن فکر می‌کردند که در تمام دنیا شهری مانند شهر آنها وجود ندارد. امّا سرانجام ویران و متروک می‌گردد و کُنام حیوانات وحشی می‌شود و هرکسی که از آنجا بگذرد، سر خود را تکان خواهد داد و حیرت خواهد کرد.

¹⁴And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the crowd of beasts; both the pelican and the bittern shall lodge in the chapiters thereof; a voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be on the thresholds: for he hath laid bare the cedar work.

¹⁵This is the rejoicing city that dwelt in security, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none else beside me: how is she become a desolation, a couching-place for beasts! Every one that passeth by her shall hiss, shall wave his hand.
