¹ نبوکدنصر پادشاه، به همهٔ مردم سراسر جهان، از هر ملّت و قبیله و زبان پیغام فرستاده گفت: «درود بر شما!

¹Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.

² من می‌خواهم تمامی نشانه‌ها و شگفتی‌هایی را که خدای متعال به من نشان داده است به شما بگویم:

²It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked toward me.

³ «کارهای عجیبی که خدا به ما نشان داده است چقدر بزرگ و معجزاتی که او انجام داده، چقدر با شکوه است. خدا، پادشاه جاودانی و سلطنت او سلطنتی ابدی است.

³How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

⁴ «من در کاخ خود به راحتی زندگی می‌کردم و از آسایش و شادمانی برخوردار بودم.

⁴I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace.

⁵ امّا خواب و رؤیاهای وحشتناکی دیدم که مرا مضطرب و پریشان کرد.

⁵I saw a dream which made me afraid; and the thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

⁶ دستور دادم تمام حکیمان سلطنتی را از سراسر بابل به حضور من بیاورند تا آنها تعبیر خواب مرا برایم بگویند.

⁶Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.

⁷ همهٔ پیشگویان و جادوگران و حکیمان و ستاره‌شناسان به نزد من آمدند و من خواب خود را برای ایشان تعریف کردم، امّا آنها نتوانستند آن را برایم تعبیر کنند.

⁷Then came in the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers; and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known to me its interpretation.

⁸ بالاخره دانیال، که اسم خدای خود، بلطشصر را بر او گذاشته‌ام، آمد. او دارای روح خدایان مقدّس می‌باشد. من خواب خود را برای او تعریف کردم.

⁸But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and I told the dream before him, saying,

⁹ به او گفتم: ای بلطشصر، رئیس ستاره‌شناسان، من می‌دانم که تو دارای روح خدایان مقدّس هستی و هیچ رازی بر تو پوشیده نیست. این خواب من است و از تو می‌خواهم آن را برای من تعبیر کنی.

⁹Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no secret troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation.

¹⁰ «در بستر خود رؤیا دیدم که درخت بزرگ و بسیار بلندی در وسط زمین بود.

¹⁰Thus were the visions of my head on my bed: I saw, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth; and its height was great.

¹¹ آن درخت مرتب بزرگ می‌شد تا اینکه سرش به آسمان رسید، به طوری که مردم سراسر جهان می‌توانستند آن را ببینند.

¹¹The tree grew, and was strong, and its height reached to the sky, and its sight to the end of all the earth.

¹² برگهای قشنگی داشت و میوهٔ آن هم بسیار زیاد بود به حدّی که برای تمام مردم کافی بود. حیوانات وحشی در سایهٔ آن استراحت می‌کردند و پرندگان در شاخه‌هایش آشیانه ساخته بودند و تمام جانداران از میوهٔ آن می‌خوردند.

¹²The leaves of it were beautiful, and its fruit much, and in it was food for all: the animals of the field had shadow under it, and the birds of the sky lived in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.

¹³ «همین‌طورکه دربارهٔ این رؤیا فکر می‌کردم، دیدم که فرشتهٔ نگهبان و مقدّسی از آسمان پایین آمد.

¹³I saw in the visions of my head on my bed, and behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from the sky.

¹⁴ او فریاد می‌کرد: 'درخت را ببرید و شاخه‌هایش را قطع نمایید. برگهایش را بکنید و میوه‌هایش را پراکنده سازید و حیوانات را از زیر آن رانده و پرندگان را از شاخه‌های آن بیرون کنید.

¹⁴He cried aloud, and said thus, Cut down the tree, and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit: let the animals get away from under it, and the fowls from its branches.

¹⁵ امّا کُنده و ریشه‌هایش را با زنجیر آهنی و برنزی ببندید و در میان مزارع و علفزارها رها کنید. بگذارید شبنم بر او ببارد و با حیوانات و در بین علفها زندگی کند.'

¹⁵Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of the sky: and let his portion be with the animals in the grass of the earth:

¹⁶ او به مدّت هفت سال خوی انسانی خود را از دست خواهد داد و دارای افکار حیوانی خواهد شد.

¹⁶let his heart be changed from man’s, and let an animal’s heart be given to him; and let seven times pass over him.

¹⁷ این تصمیمِ فرشتگانِ نگهبان و هشداردهنده است تا همهٔ مردم بدانند که خدای متعال بر تمام سرزمینهای جهان فرمانروایی می‌کند و آن را به هرکه بخواهد، حتّی به پست‌ترین مردم واگذار می‌کند.

¹⁷The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones; to the intent that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will, and sets up over it the lowest of men.

¹⁸ «این خوابی بود که من -‌نبوکدنصر پادشاه- دیدم. حال ای بلطشصر تو تعبیر آن را برای من بگو، چون هیچ‌یک از حکیمان کشور من نتوانستند آن را تعبیر کنند، امّا تو می‌توانی زیرا دارای روح خدایان مقدّس هستی.»

¹⁸This dream I, king Nebuchadnezzar, have seen; and you, Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.

¹⁹ دانیال که بلطشصر نامیده می‌شد طوری از این رؤیا نگران و هراسان شد که نتوانست چیزی بگوید. پادشاه به او گفت: «بلطشصر، مگذار که خواب و تعبیر آن تو را هراسان کند.» بلطشصر گفت: «پادشاها، آرزو می‌کنم که خواب و تعبیر آن برای دشمنان تو باشد، نه برای تو.

¹⁹Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken mute for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered, Belteshazzar, don’t let the dream, or the interpretation, trouble you. Belteshazzar answered, My lord, the dream be to those who hate you, and its interpretation to your adversaries.

²⁰ درخت بلندی دیدی که تا به آسمان رسیده بود و تمام مردم جهان می‌توانستند آن را ببینند،

²⁰The tree that you saw, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached to the sky, and its sight to all the earth;

²¹ برگهای قشنگی داشت و میوهٔ آن به قدری زیاد بود که برای خوراک تمام مردم کافی بود، حیوانات وحشی در سایه‌اش استراحت می‌کردند و پرندگان در شاخه‌های آن آشیانه ساخته بودند.

²¹whose leaves were beautiful, and its fruit much, and in it was food for all; under which the animals of the field lived, and on whose branches the birds of the sky had their habitation:

²² «پادشاها، آن درخت تو هستی که بزرگ و قوی شده‌ای و عظمت و شکوه تو به آسمان رسیده و فرمانروایی تو سراسر جهان را فراگرفته است.

²²it is you, O king, that are grown and become strong; for your greatness is grown, and reaches to the sky, and your dominion to the end of the earth.

²³ ای پادشاه، تو فرشتهٔ مقدّسی را دیدی که از آسمان به پایین ‌آمد و ‌گفت: 'درخت را بِبُرید و از بین بِبَرید. امّا کُنده و ریشه‌هایش را با زنجیر آهنی و برنزی ببندید و در مزارعه میان علفزارها رها کنید تا شبنم آسمانها بر او ببارد و هفت سال با حیوانات زندگی کند.'

²³Whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from the sky, and saying, Cut down the tree, and destroy it; nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field, and let it be wet with the dew of the sky: and let his portion be with the animals of the field, until seven times pass over him;

²⁴ «ای پادشاه، تعبیر خواب و فرمانی که از طرف خدای متعال برای تو صادر شده، این است.

²⁴this is the interpretation, O king, and it is the decree of the Most High, which has come on my lord the king:

²⁵ تو از میان مردم رانده خواهی شد و با حیوانات وحشی زندگی خواهی نمود. مثل گاو به تو علف می‌دهند و شبنم آسمان بر سر تو خواهد بارید. هفت سال به این ترتیب خواهد گذشت تا تو بدانی که خدای متعال بر تمام ممالک جهان فرمانروایی می‌کند و آن را به هرکه بخواهد می‌دهد.

²⁵that you shall be driven from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field, and you shall be made to eat grass as oxen, and shall be wet with the dew of the sky, and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

²⁶ فرشته گفت: کُنده و ریشهٔ درخت را در زمین باقی گذارید. معنی آن اینست: بعد از اینکه تو دانستی فرمانروایی از جانب خداوند است، دوباره پادشاه خواهی شد.

²⁶Whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree; your kingdom shall be sure to you, after that you shall have known that the heavens do rule.

²⁷ ای پادشاه، نصیحت مرا گوش کن و با انجام کارهای نیک از گناهان خود دست بردار و به عوض خطاهای خود به فقرا احسان کن، آنگاه این امر تو را عاقبت به خیر می‌گرداند.»

²⁷Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.

²⁸ همهٔ این امور برای نبوکدنصر پادشاه اتّفاق افتاد.

²⁸All this came on the king Nebuchadnezzar.

²⁹ بعد از دوازده ماه هنگامی‌که پادشاه بر پشت بام کاخ سلطنتی گردش می‌کرد

²⁹At the end of twelve months he was walking in the royal palace of Babylon.

³⁰ ناگهان گفت: «ببینید این بابل است که من با توانایی و قدرت برای جلال خود به عنوان پایتخت خویش ساخته‌ام.»

³⁰The king spoke and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?

³¹ این حرف هنوز تمام نشده بود که صدایی از آسمان شنیده شد که می‌گفت: «ای نبوکدنصر پادشاه، بدان که سلطنت از تو گرفته می‌شود.

³¹While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from the sky, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom has departed from you:

³² تو از میان مردم بیرون انداخته می‌شوی. با حیوانات وحشی زندگی خواهی کرد و مدّت هفت سال مثل گاو علف خواهی خورد. بعد از آن خواهی دانست که خدای متعال بر تمام ممالک جهان فرمانروایی می‌کند و آن را به هرکه بخواهد می‌دهد.»

³²and you shall be driven from men; and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field; you shall be made to eat grass as oxen; and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

³³ در همین موقع رؤیای نبوکدنصر به حقیقت پیوست. او را از میان مردم بیرون کردند. مانند گاو علف می‌خورد و شبنم آسمان بر بدنش می‌بارید. موهای او مثل پر عقاب و ناخنهایش مانند پنجه‌های مرغ شده بود.

³³The same hour was the thing fulfilled on Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky, until his hair was grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.

³⁴ «بعد از گذشت هفت سال، من که نبوکدنصر هستم به سوی آسمان نگاه کردم. عقل من دوباره برگشت و خدای متعال را ستایش کردم و او را که ابدی و جاودانی است پرستش نمودم. «او تا ابدالآباد فرمانروایی خواهد کرد و سلطنت او جاودانی خواهد بود.

³⁴At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored him who lives forever; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation.

³⁵ همهٔ مردم زمین در مقابل او هیچ هستند. با فرشتگان آسمانی و تمام مردم جهان مطابق ارادهٔ خود عمل می‌کند. و کسی نمی‌تواند مانع او شود و یا از او بپرسد چرا چنین می‌کنی؟»

³⁵All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he does according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, or ask him, What are you doing?

³⁶ «هنگامی‌که عقل من برگشت، جلال و شکوه و سلطنت دوباره به من داده شد و مشاوران و امرای من از من استقبال نمودند و من دوباره با جلال و عظمت بیشتری به سلطنت رسیدم. «اکنون من نبوکدنصر، پادشاه آسمانها را حمد و سپاس می‌گویم. جلال از آن اوست که تمام کارهایش حق و حقیقت است و می‌تواند متکبّران را فروتن و پست سازد.»

³⁶At the same time my understanding returned to me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and brightness returned to me; and my counselors and my lords sought to me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent greatness was added to me.

³⁷ «اکنون من نبوکدنصر، پادشاه آسمانها را حمد و سپاس می‌گویم. جلال از آن اوست که تمام کارهایش حق و حقیقت است و می‌تواند متکبّران را فروتن و پست سازد.»

³⁷Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those who walk in pride he is able to abase.
