¹ خداوند این پیام را در دوران سلطنت یوشیا پسر آمون، پادشاه یهودا، به صَفَنیا داد. صَفَنیا پسر کوشی، پسر جدلیا، پسر امریا و امریا پسر حزقیا پادشاه بود.

¹The word of Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. which came to Zephaniah, the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah, the son of Amon, king of Judah.

² خداوند می‌فرماید: «من همه ‌چیز را از روی زمین نابود می‌سازم.

²I will utterly sweep away everything off of the surface of the earth, says Yahweh.

³ تمام انسانها، حیوانات، پرندگان و ماهیان را از بین می‌برم. به زندگی مردم شریر خاتمه می‌دهم، همهٔ بشر را محو می‌کنم و حتّی یک نفر را هم زنده نمی‌گذارم.

³I will sweep away man and animal. I will sweep away the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and the heaps of rubble with the wicked. I will cut off man from the surface of the earth, says Yahweh.

⁴ «مردم اورشلیم و یهودا را به سزای کارهایشان می‌رسانم و آثار بت بعل و نام کاهنان بت‌پرست را محو می‌سازم.

⁴I will stretch out my hand against Judah, and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place: the name of the idolatrous and pagan priests,

⁵ آنهایی را که بر بامها، آفتاب و ماه و ستارگان را می‌پرستند و نیز کسانی ‌را که در ظاهر مرا می‌پرستند و به من سوگند وفاداری یاد می‌کنند، امّا به نام بت مولِک قسم می‌خورند، هلاک می‌کنم.

⁵those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by Yahweh and also swear by Malcam,

⁶ آنهایی را که از پیروی من دست کشیده‌اند و آن اشخاصی را که طالب من نیستند و از من راهنمایی نمی‌خواهند، نابود می‌سازم.»

⁶those who have turned back from following Yahweh, and those who haven’t sought Yahweh nor inquired after him.

⁷ روز داوری خداوند نزدیک است، پس در حضور او خاموش باشید! خداوند قوم خود را برای قربانی آماده کرده و از دشمنان دعوت نموده است که یهودا را غارت کنند.

⁷Be silent at the presence of the Lord The word translated “Lord” is “Adonai.” Yahweh, for the day of Yahweh is at hand. For Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice. He has consecrated his guests.

⁸ خداوند می‌فرماید: «در آن روزِ جزا رهبران، شاهزادگان و همچنین کسانی را که از راه و رسم بیگانگان پیروی می‌کنند، به سزای کارهایشان می‌رسانم.

⁸It will happen in the day of Yahweh’s sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, the king’s sons, and all those who are clothed with foreign clothing.

⁹ آن اشخاصی را که مانند کافران دست به دزدی و آدمکشی می‌زنند تا پرستشگاههای خدایان خود را از مال دزدی پُر سازند، مجازات می‌کنم.»

⁹In that day, I will punish all those who leap over the threshold, who fill their master’s house with violence and deceit.

¹⁰ خداوند می‌فرماید: «در آن روز صدای فریاد از دروازهٔ ماهی در اورشلیم شنیده می‌شود و صدای ناله از قسمت جدید شهر و صدای ولوله از تپّه‌ها به گوش می‌رسد.

¹⁰In that day, says Yahweh, there will be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, a wailing from the second quarter, and a great crashing from the hills.

¹¹ ای مردم بازار، فریاد و شیون کنید، زیرا همهٔ تاجران از بین رفته‌اند.

¹¹Wail, you inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the people of Canaan are undone! All those who were loaded with silver are cut off.

¹² «در آن روز چراغی گرفته، اورشلیم را تفتیش می‌کنم و اشخاص خودپرست را که می‌گویند: 'خداوند با ما کاری ندارد.' مجازات می‌کنم.

¹²It will happen at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their heart, “Yahweh will not do good, neither will he do evil.”

¹³ مال و دارائیشان تاراج و خانه‌هایشان ویران می‌شود. خانه‌ها می‌سازند، امّا در آنها ساکن نخواهند شد. تاکستانها غرس می‌کنند، ولی هرگز از شراب آنها نخواهند نوشید.»

¹³Their wealth will become a spoil, and their houses a desolation. Yes, they will build houses, but won’t inhabit them. They will plant vineyards, but won’t drink their wine.

¹⁴ آن روز عظیم خداوند نزدیک است و بزودی فرا می‌رسد. در آن روز حتّی شجاعترین و قویترین مردان به تلخی خواهند گریست.

¹⁴The great day of Yahweh is near. It is near, and hurries greatly, the voice of the day of Yahweh. The mighty man cries there bitterly.

¹⁵ آن روز، روز غضب خداوند است. روز سختی و اضطراب، روز تاریکی و ظلمت، روز سیاه و ابرهای غلیظ است.

¹⁵That day is a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness,

¹⁶ روزی که شیپور نواخته می‌شود و علیه شهرهای مستحکم و بُرجهای بلند، جنگ آغاز می‌گردد.

¹⁶a day of the trumpet and alarm, against the fortified cities, and against the high battlements.

¹⁷ خداوند می‌فرماید: «مردم را چنان پریشان و درمانده می‌سازم که مانند شخص کور نتوانند راه خود را پیدا کنند، آنها در برابر من گناه کرده‌اند و اکنون خونشان مانند آب بر خاک می‌ریزد و اجسادشان به روی زمین خواهد گندید.» روزی که خداوند خشم خود را نشان دهد، طلا و نقرهٔ آنها نمی‌تواند ایشان را نجات بدهد. تمامی زمین در آتش خشم او می‌سوزد و همهٔ ساکنان روی زمین با مرگ ناگهانی از بین می‌روند.

¹⁷I will bring distress on men, that they will walk like blind men, because they have sinned against Yahweh, and their blood will be poured out like dust, and their flesh like dung.

¹⁸ روزی که خداوند خشم خود را نشان دهد، طلا و نقرهٔ آنها نمی‌تواند ایشان را نجات بدهد. تمامی زمین در آتش خشم او می‌سوزد و همهٔ ساکنان روی زمین با مرگ ناگهانی از بین می‌روند.

¹⁸Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of Yahweh’s wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.
