¹Petru, apostol al lui Isus Hristos, către aleşii cari trăiesc ca străini, împrăştiaţi prin Pont, Galatia, Capadocia, Asia şi Bitinia,

¹Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the chosen ones who are living as foreigners in the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

²după ştiinţa mai dinainte a lui Dumnezeu Tatăl, prin sfinţirea lucrată de Duhul, spre ascultarea şi stropirea cu sîngele lui Isus Hristos: Harul şi pacea să vă fie înmulţite!

²according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, that you may obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with his blood: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

³Binecuvîntat să fie Dumnezeu, Tatăl Domnului nostru Isus Hristos, care, după îndurarea Sa cea mare, ne-a născut din nou prin învierea lui Isus Hristos din morţi, la o nădejde vie,

³Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy became our father again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

⁴şi la o moştenire nestricăcioasă, şi neîntinată, şi care nu se poate veşteji, păstrată în ceruri pentru voi.

⁴to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that doesn’t fade away, reserved in Heaven for you,

⁵Voi sînteţi păziţi de puterea lui Dumnezeu, prin credinţă, pentru mîntuirea gata să fie descoperită în vremurile de apoi!

⁵who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

⁶În ea voi vă bucuraţi mult, măcar că acum, dacă trebuie, sînteţi întristaţi pentru puţină vreme, prin felurite încercări,

⁶Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been put to grief in various trials,

⁷pentruca încercarea credinţei voastre, cu mult mai scumpă decît aurul care piere şi care totuş este cercat prin foc , să aibă ca urmare lauda , slava şi cinstea, la arătarea lui Isus Hristos,

⁷that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ—

⁸pe care voi Îl iubiţi fără să-L fi văzut, credeţi în El, fără să-L vedeţi, şi vă bucuraţi cu o bucurie negrăită şi strălucită,

⁸whom not having known you love; in whom, though now you don’t see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory—

⁹pentrucă veţi dobîndi, ca sfîrşit al credinţei voastre, mîntuirea sufletelor voastre.

⁹receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

¹⁰Proorocii, cari au proorocit despre harul care vă era păstrat vouă, au făcut din mîntuirea aceasta ţinta cercetărilor şi căutării lor stăruitoare.

¹⁰Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,

¹¹Ei cercetau să vadă ce vreme şi ce împrejurări avea în vedere Duhul lui Hristos, care era în ei, cînd vestea mai dinainte patimile lui Hristos şi slava de care aveau să fie urmate.

¹¹searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ, which was in them, pointed to, when he predicted the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that would follow them.

¹²Lor le-a fost descoperit că nu pentru ei înşişi, ci pentru voi spuneau ei aceste lucruri, pe cari vi le-au vestit acum cei ce v-au propovăduit Evanghelia, prin Duhul Sfînt trimes din cer şi în cari chiar îngerii doresc să privească.

¹²To them it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to you, they ministered these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.

¹³De aceea, încingeţi-vă coapsele minţii voastre, fiţi treji, şi puneţi-vă toată nădejdea în harul, care vă va fi adus, la arătarea lui Isus Hristos.

¹³Therefore prepare your minds for action, literally, “gird up the waist of your mind” or “put on the belt of the waist of your mind” be sober and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ—

¹⁴Ca nişte copii ascultători, nu vă lăsaţi tîrîţi în poftele, pe cari le aveaţi altădată, cînd eraţi în neştiinţă.

¹⁴as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance,

¹⁵Ci, după cum Cel ce v-a chemat este sfînt, fiţi şi voi sfinţi în toată purtarea voastră.

¹⁵but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior;

¹⁶Căci este scris: Fiţi sfinţi, căci Eu sînt sfînt".

¹⁶because it is written, “You shall be holy; for I am holy.” Leviticus 11:44-45

¹⁷Şi dacă chemaţi ca Tată pe Cel ce judecă fără părtinire pe fiecare după faptele lui, purtaţi-vă cu frică în timpul pribegiei voastre;

¹⁷If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man’s work, pass the time of your living as foreigners here in reverent fear:

¹⁸căci ştiţi că nu cu lucruri peritoare, cu argint sau cu aur, aţi fost răscumpăraţi din felul deşert de vieţuire, pe care-l moşteniserăţi dela părinţii voştri,

¹⁸knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,

¹⁹ci cu sîngele scump al lui Hristos, Mielul fără cusur şi fără prihană.

¹⁹but with precious blood, as of a faultless and pure lamb, the blood of Christ;

²⁰El a fost cunoscut mai înainte de întemeierea lumii, şi a fost arătat la sfîrşitul vremurilor pentru voi,

²⁰who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of times for your sake,

²¹cari, prin El, sînteţi credincioşi în Dumnezeu, care L-a înviat din morţi, şi I-a dat slavă, pentruca, credinţa şi nădejdea voastră să fie în Dumnezeu.

²¹who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.

²²Deci, ca unii cari, prin ascultarea de adevăr, v-aţi curăţit sufletele prin Duhul, ca să aveţi o dragoste de fraţi neprefăcută, iubiţi-vă cu căldură unii pe alţii, din toată inima;

²²Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from the heart fervently:

²³fiindcă aţi fost născuţi din nou nu dintr-o sămînţă, care poate putrezi, ci dintr-una care nu poate putrezi, prin Cuvîntul lui Dumnezeu, care este viu şi care rămîne în veac.

²³having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and remains forever.

²⁴Căci orice făptură este ca iarba, şi toată slava ei, ca floarea ierbii. Iarba se usucă şi floarea cade jos,

²⁴For, “All flesh is like grass, and all of man’s glory like the flower in the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls;

²⁵dar Cuvîntul Domnului rămîne în veac. Şi acesta este Cuvîntul, care v-a fost propovăduit prin Evanghelie.

²⁵but the Lord’s word endures forever.” Isaiah 40:6-8 This is the word of Good News which was preached to you.
