¹Roboam, venind la Ierusalim, a strîns casa lui Iuda şi a lui Beniamin, o sută optzeci de mii de oameni de frunte, buni pentru război, ca să lupte împotriva lui Israel şi să -l aducă iarăş supt stăpînirea lui Roboam.

¹When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, one hundred eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

²Dar cuvîntul Domnului a vorbit astfel lui Şemaia, omul lui Dumnezeu:

²But the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

³,,Vorbeşte lui Roboam, fiul lui Solomon, împăratul lui Iuda, şi întregului Israel din Iuda şi din Beniamin. Şi spune-le:

³“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

⁴,,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ,,Să nu vă suiţi şi să nu faceţi război împotriva fraţilor voştri! Fiecare din voi să se întoarcă acasă, căci dela Mine s'a întîmplat lucrul acesta. ,,Ei au ascultat de cuvintele Domnului, s'au întors acasă, şi nu s'au mai dus împotriva lui Ieroboam.

⁴‘Thus says Yahweh, “You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers! Return every man to his house; for this thing is of me.”’” So they listened to the words of Yahweh, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

⁵Roboam a locuit la Ierusalim, şi a zidit cetăţi întărite în Iuda.

⁵Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.

⁶A zidit Betleemul, Etamul, Tecoa,

⁶He built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

⁷Bet-Ţur, Soco, Adulam,

⁷Beth Zur, and Soco, and Adullam,

⁸Gat, Mareşa, Zif,

⁸and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

⁹Adoraim, Lachis, Azeca,

⁹and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

¹⁰Ţorea, Aialon şi Hebronul, cari erau în Iuda şi în Beniamin, şi a făcut din ele nişte cetăţi întărite.

¹⁰and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

¹¹Le -a întărit, a pus în ele căpitani şi magazii de bucate, de untdelemn şi vin.

¹¹He fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, and oil and wine.

¹²A pus în fiecare din aceste cetăţi scuturi şi suliţe, şi le -a făcut foarte tari. Iuda şi Beniamin erau ai lui.

¹²He put shields and spears in every city, and made them exceeding strong. Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.

¹³Preoţii şi Leviţii, cari se aflau în tot Israelul, şi-au părăsit locuinţele şi s'au dus la el;

¹³The priests and the Levites who were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border.

¹⁴căci Leviţii şi-au părăsit ţinuturile şi moşiile şi au venit în Iuda şi la Ierusalim, pentrucă Ieroboam şi fiii săi i-au împedecat să-şi împlinească slujbele ca preoţi ai Domnului.

¹⁴For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest’s office to Yahweh;

¹⁵Ieroboam a pus preoţi pentru înălţimile, pentru ţapii şi pentru viţeii pe cari îi făcuse.

¹⁵and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the male goats, and for the calves which he had made.

¹⁶Aceia din toate seminţiile lui Israel, cari aveau pe inimă să caute pe Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, au urmat pe Leviţi la Ierusalim, ca să jertfească Domnului, Dumnezeului părinţilor lor.

¹⁶After them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek Yahweh, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

¹⁷Ei au dat astfel tărie împărăţiei lui Iuda, şi au întărit pe Roboam, fiul lui Solomon, timp de trei ani; căci trei ani au umblat în calea lui David şi a lui Solomon.

¹⁷So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.

¹⁸Roboam a luat de nevastă pe Mahalat, fata lui Ierimot, fiul lui David şi al Abihailei, fata lui Eliab, fiul lui Isai.

¹⁸Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

¹⁹Ea i -a născut fii pe: Ieuş, Şemaria şi Zaham.

¹⁹and she bore him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.

²⁰După ea, a luat pe Maaca, fata lui Absalom. Ea i -a născut pe Abia, pe Atai, pe Ziza şi pe Şelomit.

²⁰After her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

²¹Roboam iubea pe Maaca, fata lui Absalom, mai mult de cît pe toate nevestele şi ţiitoarele lui; căci a avut optsprezece neveste şi şasezeci de ţiitoare, şi a născut douăzeci şi opt de fii şi şasezeci de fete.

²¹Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and sixty concubines, and became the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.)

²²Roboam a dat cel dintîi loc lui Abia, fiul Maachei, şi l -a pus căpetenie peste fraţii lui, căci voia să -l facă împărat.

²²Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, the prince among his brothers; for he intended to make him king.

²³El a lucrat cu minte, împrăştiind pe toţi fiii săi în toate ţinuturile lui Iuda şi lui Beniamin, în toate cetăţile întărite; le -a dat de mîncare din belşug, şi le -a căutat o mulţime de neveste.

²³He dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city: and he gave them food in abundance. He sought for them many wives.
