¹În al optsprezecelea an al domniei lui Ieroboam, peste Iuda a început să domnească Abia.

¹In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.

²El a domnit trei ani la Ierusalim. Mamă-sa se numea Micaia, fata lui Uriel, din Ghibea. Între Abia şi Ieroboam a fost război.

²He reigned three years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

³Abia a început lupta cu o oaste de războinici viteji, patrusute de mii de oameni aleşi; şi Ieroboam s'a înşiruit de bătaie împotriva lui cu opt sute de mii de oameni aleşi, războinici viteji.

³Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valor.

⁴Depe vîrful muntelui Ţemaraim, care face parte din muntele lui Efraim, Abia s'a sculat şi a zis: ,,Ascultă-mă, Ieroboame, şi tot Israelul!

⁴Abijah stood up on Mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, “Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel:

⁵Nu trebuie oare să ştiţi că Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, a dat pe vecie domnia peste Israel lui David şi fiilor lui printr'un legămînt care nu se poate călca?

⁵Ought you not to know that Yahweh, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

⁶Dar Iaroboam, fiul lui Nebat, slujitorul lui Solomon, fiul lui David, s'a sculat şi s'a răzvrătit împotriva stăpînului său.

⁶Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up, and rebelled against his lord.

⁷Nişte oameni de nimic, oameni răi, s'au strîns la el şi s'au împotrivit lui Roboam, fiul lui Solomon. Roboam era tînăr şi fricos, şi nu putea să li se împotrivească.

⁷There were gathered to him worthless men, base fellows, who strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.

⁸Şi acum, voi credeţi că puteţi ieşi biruitori asupra împărăţiei Domnului, care este în mînile fiilor lui David; şi voi sînteţi o mare mulţime şi aveţi cu voi viţeii de aur pe cari vi i -a făcut Ieroboam ca dumnezei.

⁸“Now you think to withstand the kingdom of Yahweh in the hand of the sons of David; and you are a great multitude, and there are with you the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods.

⁹N'aţi îndepărtat voi pe preoţii Domnului, pe fiii lui Aaron şi pe Leviţi, şi nu v'aţi făcut voi preoţi, ca şi popoarele celorlalte ţări? Oricine venea cu un viţel şi şapte berbeci, ca să fie sfinţit, se făcea preot al celui ce nu este Dumnezeu.

⁹Haven’t you driven out the priests of Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves after the ways of the peoples of other lands? so that whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams, the same may be a priest of those who are no gods.

¹⁰Dar cît despre noi, Domnul este Dumnezeul nostru, şi noi nu L-am părăsit, preoţii din slujba Domnului sînt fii ai lui Aaron, şi Leviţii stau şi îşi împlinesc slujbele.

¹⁰“But as for us, Yahweh is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and we have priests ministering to Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work:

¹¹Noi aducem în fiecare dimineaţă şi în fiecare seară arderi de tot Domnului, ardem tămîie mirositoare, punem pînile pentru punerea înaintea Domnului pe masa cea curată, şi aprindem în fiecare seară sfeşnicul de aur cu candelele lui; căci păzim poruncile Domnului, Dumnezeului nostru. Dar voi L-aţi părăsit.

¹¹and they burn to Yahweh every morning and every evening burnt offerings and sweet incense. They also set the show bread in order on the pure table; and the lampstand of gold with its lamps, to burn every evening: for we keep the instruction of Yahweh our God; but you have forsaken him.

¹²Iată că Dumnezeu şi preoţii Lui sînt cu noi, în fruntea noastră, şi avem şi trîmbiţele răsunătoare ca să sunăm din ele împotriva voastră. Copii ai lui Israel! nu faceţi război împotriva Domnului, Dumnezeului părinţilor voştri, căci nu veţi avea nicio izbîndă!``

¹²Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, don’t fight against Yahweh, the God of your fathers; for you shall not prosper.”

¹³Ieroboam i -a luat pe din apoi, cu ajutorul unor oameni puşi la pîndă, aşa că oştile lui erau în faţa lui Iuda, iar cei ce stăteau la pîndă erau înapoia lor.

¹³But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.

¹⁴Cei din Iuda, întorcîndu-se, au avut de luptat înainte şi înapoi. Au strigat către Domnul, şi preoţii au sunat din trîmbiţe.

¹⁴When Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them; and they cried to Yahweh, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

¹⁵Oamenii lui Iuda au scos un strigăt de război şi, la strigătul de război al oamenilor lui Iuda, Domnul a lovit pe Ieroboam şi pe tot Israelul dinaintea lui Abia şi a lui Iuda.

¹⁵Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it happened, that God struck Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

¹⁶Copiii lui Israel au fugit dinaintea lui Iuda, şi Dumnezeu i -a dat în mînile lui.

¹⁶The children of Israel fled before Judah; and God delivered them into their hand.

¹⁷Abia şi poporul lui le-au pricinuit o mare înfrîngere, şi cinci sute de mii de oameni aleşi au căzut morţi printre cei din Israel.

¹⁷Abijah and his people killed them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

¹⁸Copiii lui Israel au fost smeriţi în vremea aceea, şi copiii lui Iuda au cîştigat biruinţa, pentrucă se sprijiniseră pe Domnul, Dumnezeul părinţilor lor.

¹⁸Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied on Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

¹⁹Abia a urmărit pe Ieroboam şi i -a luat cetăţi: Betelul cu satele lui, Ieşana cu satele ei, şi Efronul cu satele lui.

¹⁹Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Bethel with its towns, and Jeshanah with its towns, and Ephron with its towns.

²⁰Ieroboam n'a mai avut putere pe vremea lui Abia, şi Domnul l -a lovit, şi a murit.

²⁰Jeroboam didn’t recover strength again in the days of Abijah. Yahweh struck him, and he died.

²¹Dar Abia a ajuns puternic; a avut patrusprezece neveste, şi a născut douăzeci şi doi de fii şi şasesprezece fete.

²¹But Abijah grew mighty, and took to himself fourteen wives, and became the father of twenty-two sons, and sixteen daughters.
