¹Ioas avea şapte ani, cînd a ajuns împărat, şi a domnit patruzeci de ani la Ierusalim. Mamă-sa se chema Ţibia, din Beer-Şeba.

¹Joash was seven years old when he began to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Zibiah, of Beersheba.

²Ioas a făcut ce este bine înaintea Domnului în tot timpul vieţii preotului Iehoiada.

²Joash did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

³Iehoiada a luat pentru Ioas două neveste, şi Ioas a născut fii şi fiice.

³Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he became the father of sons and daughters.

⁴După aceea, Ioas şi -a pus de gînd să dreagă Casa Domnului.

⁴It happened after this, that Joash intended to restore the house of Yahweh.

⁵A strîns pe preoţi şi pe Leviţi, şi le -a zis: ,,Duceţi-vă prin cetăţile lui Iuda, şi strîngeţi bani din tot Israelul, pe fiecare an, pentru dregerea Casei Dumnezeului vostru. Şi grăbiţi-vă cu lucrul acesta.`` Dar Leviţii nu s'au grăbit.

⁵He gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, “Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather money to repair the house of your God from all Israel from year to year. See that you expedite this matter.” However the Levites didn’t do it right away.

⁶Împăratul a chemat pe marele preot Iehoiada, şi i -a zis: ,,Pentruce n'ai vegheat ca Leviţii să strîngă`` din Iuda şi din Ierusalim darea poruncită de Moise, robul Domnului, şi pusă pe adunarea lui Israel pentru cortul mărturiei?

⁶The king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, “Why haven’t you required of the Levites to bring in the tax of Moses the servant of Yahweh, and of the assembly of Israel, out of Judah and out of Jerusalem, for the tent of the testimony?”

⁷Căci nelegiuita aceea de Atalia şi fiii ei au pustiit Casa lui Dumnezeu, şi au întrebuinţat în slujba Baalilor toate lucrurile închinate Casei Domnului.``

⁷For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up God’s house; and they also gave all the dedicated things of the house of Yahweh to the Baals.

⁸Atunci împăratul a poruncit să se facă o ladă, şi să se pună afară la poarta Casei Domnului.

⁸So the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of the house of Yahweh.

⁹Şi s'a dat de veste în Iuda şi în Ierusalim ca să se aducă Domnului darea pusă de Moise, robul Domnului, pe Israel în pustie.

⁹They made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in for Yahweh the tax that Moses the servant of God laid on Israel in the wilderness.

¹⁰Toate căpeteniile şi tot poporul s'au bucurat de lucrul acesta, şi au adus şi au aruncat în ladă tot ce aveau de plătit.

¹⁰All the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.

¹¹Cînd vedeau Leviţii că e mult argint în ladă şi că era vremea ca s'o dea în mînile dregătorilor împărtului, venea logofătul împăratului şi slujbaşul marelui preot şi goleau lada. Apoi o luau şi o puneau iarăş la loc. Aşa făceau în fiecare zi, şi au strîns mult argint.

¹¹It was so, that whenever the chest was brought to the king’s officers by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the chief priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

¹²Împăratul şi Iehoiada îl dădeau meşterilor însărcinaţi cu facerea lucrării în Casa Domnului, cari tocmeau cioplitori de piatră şi tîmplari, ca să dreagă Casa Domnului, precum şi lucrători în fier şi aramă, ca să dreagă Casa Domnului.

¹²The king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of Yahweh; and they hired masons and carpenters to restore the house of Yahweh, and also such as worked iron and brass to repair the house of Yahweh.

¹³Lucrătorii s'au apucat de lucru, şi au isprăvit ce era de dres; au pus casa lui Dumnezeu iarăş în stare bună şi au întărit -o.

¹³So the workmen worked, and the work of repairing went forward in their hands, and they set up God’s house in its state, and strengthened it.

¹⁴Cînd au isprăvit, au adus înaintea împăratului şi înaintea lui Iehoiada argintul care mai rămăsese. Şi cu el au făcut unelte pentru casa Domnului, unelte pentru slujbă şi pentru arderile de tot, pahare şi alte scule de aur şi de argint. Şi, în tot timpul vieţii lui Iehoiada, au adus necurmat arderi de tot în Casa Domnului.

¹⁴When they had made an end, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, of which were made vessels for the house of Yahweh, even vessels with which to minister and to offer, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. They offered burnt offerings in the house of Yahweh continually all the days of Jehoiada.

¹⁵Iehoiada a murit bătrîn şi sătul de zile. La moarte, avea o sută treizeci de ani.

¹⁵But Jehoiada grew old and was full of days, and he died; one hundred thirty years old was he when he died.

¹⁶L-au îngropat în cetatea lui David la un loc cu împăraţii, pentrucă făcuse bine în Israel, şi faţă de Dumnezeu şi faţă de Casa Lui.

¹⁶They buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and his house.

¹⁷După moartea lui Iehoiada, căpeteniile lui Iuda au venit şi s'au închinat înaintea împăratului. Atunci împăratul i -a ascultat.

¹⁷Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king listened to them.

¹⁸Şi au părăsit Casa Domnului, Dumnezeului părinţilor lor, şi au slujit Astarteelor şi idolilor. Mînia Domnului a venit asupra lui Iuda şi asupra Ierusalimului, pentrucă se făcuseră vinovaţi în felul acesta.

¹⁸They forsook the house of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols: and wrath came on Judah and Jerusalem for this their guiltiness.

¹⁹Domnul a trimes la ei prooroci să -i întoarcă înapoi la El, dar n'au ascultat de înştiinţările pe cari le-au primit.

¹⁹Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to Yahweh; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.

²⁰Zaharia, fiul preotului Iehoiada, a fost îmbrăcat cu Duhul lui Dumnezeu. El s'a înfăţişat înaintea poporului şi i -a zis: ,,Aşa vorbeşte Dumnezeu: ,,Pentruce călcaţi poruncile Domnului? Nu veţi propăşi. Pentrucă aţi părăsit pe Domnul, şi El vă va părăsi.``

²⁰The Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said to them, “Thus says God, ‘Why do you disobey the commandments of Yahweh, so that you can’t prosper? Because you have forsaken Yahweh, he has also forsaken you.’”

²¹Şi au uneltit împotriva lui, şi l-au ucis cu pietre, din porunca împăratului, în curtea Casei Domnului.

²¹They conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of Yahweh.

²²Împăratul Ioas nu şi -a adus aminte de bunăvoinţa pe care o avusese faţă de el Iehoiada, tatăl lui Zaharia, şi a omorît pe fiul lui. Zaharia a zis cînd a murit: ,,Domnul să vadă, şi să judece!``

²²Thus Joash the king didn’t remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. When he died, he said, “May Yahweh look at it, and repay it.”

²³După trecerea anului, oastea Sirienilor s'a suit împotriva lui Ioas, şi a venit în Iuda şi la Ierusalim. Au omorît din popor pe toate căpeteniile poporului, şi au trimes împăratului toată prada la Damasc.

²³It happened at the end of the year, that the army of the Syrians came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus.

²⁴Oastea Sirienilor a venit cu un mic număr de oameni. Totuş, Domnul a dat în mînile lor o oaste foarte însemnată, pentrucă părăsiseră pe Domnul, Dumnezeul părinţilor lor. Astfel au pedepsit Sirienii pe Ioas.

²⁴For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men; and Yahweh delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.

²⁵Cînd au plecat dela el, după ce -l lăsaseră în mari suferinţe, slujitorii lui au uneltit împotriva lui din pricina sîngelui fiului preotului Iehoiada. L-au omorît în patul lui, şi a murit. L-au îngropat în cetatea lui David, dar nu l-au îngropat în mormintele împăraţilor.

²⁵When they were departed for him (for they left him very sick), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed, and he died; and they buried him in the city of David, but they didn’t bury him in the tombs of the kings.

²⁶Iată pe ceice au uneltit împotriva lui: Zabad, fiul Şimeatei, o femeie Amonită, şi Iozabad, fiul Şimritei, o femeie Moabită.

²⁶These are those who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

²⁷Cît despre fiii lui, despre marele număr de proorocii făcute cu privire la el, şi despre dregerea Casei lui Dumnezeu, toate acestea sînt scrise în istoria din cartea împăraţilor. În locul lui a domnit fiul său Amaţia.

²⁷Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid on him, and the rebuilding of God’s house, behold, they are written in the commentary of the book of the kings. Amaziah his son reigned in his place.
