¹După aceste lucruri şi după aceste fapte de credincioşie, a venit Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei, care a pătruns în Iuda, şi a împresurat cetăţile întărite, cu gînd să pună mîna pe ele.

¹After these things, and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.

²Ezechia, văzînd că a venit Sanherib şi că are de gînd să înceapă lupta împotriva Ierusalimului,

²When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,

³s'a sfătuit cu căpeteniile sale şi cu oamenii lui cei viteji, ca să astupe izvoarele de apă cari erau afară din cetate. Şi ei au fost de părerea lui.

³he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside of the city; and they helped him.

⁴S'au strîns o mulţime de oameni, şi au astupat toate izvoarele şi pîrîul care curge prin mijlocul ţinutului aceluia. ,,Pentruce``, ziceau ei, ,,să găsească împăraţii Asiriei, la venirea lor, ape din belşug?``

⁴So many people gathered together, and they stopped all the springs, and the brook that flowed through the midst of the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?”

⁵Ezechia s'a îmbărbătat; a zidit din nou zidul care era stricat şi l -a ridicat pînă la turnuri. A mai zidit un alt zid în afară, a întărit Milo în cetatea lui David, şi a pregătit o mulţime de arme şi de scuturi.

⁵He took courage, and built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, and the other wall outside, and strengthened Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance.

⁶A pus căpetenii de război peste popor, şi i -a adunat la el pe locul deschis dela poarta cetăţii. Vorbindu-le inimii, a zis:

⁶He set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the broad place at the gate of the city, and spoke comfortably to them, saying,

⁷,,Întăriţi-vă şi îmbărbătaţi-vă. Nu vă temeţi şi nu vă spăimîntaţi înaintea împăratul Asiriei şi înaintea întregei mulţimi care este cu el; căci cu noi sînt mai mulţi decît cu el.

⁷“Be strong and courageous, don’t be afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater with us than with him.

⁸Cu el este un braţ de carne, dar cu noi este Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, care ne va ajuta şi va lupta pentru noi.`` Poporul a avut încredere în cuvintele lui Ezechia, împăratul lui Iuda.

⁸With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is Yahweh our God to help us, and to fight our battles.” The people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

⁹După aceea, Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei, a trimes pe slujitorii săi la Ierusalim, pe cînd era înaintea Lachisului cu toate puterile lui; i -a trimes la Ezechia, împăratul lui Iuda, şi la toţi cei din Iuda cari erau la Ierusalim, să le spună:

⁹After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was before Lachish, and all his power with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,

¹⁰,,Aşa vorbeşte Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei: ,,Pe ce se bizue încrederea voastră, de staţi împresuraţi la Ierusalim?

¹⁰Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, “In whom do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem?

¹¹Oare nu vă amăgeşte Ezechia, ca să vă dea morţii prin foamete şi prin sete, cînd zice: ,,Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, ne va scăpa din mîna împăratului Asiriei?``

¹¹Doesn’t Hezekiah persuade you, to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, ‘Yahweh our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?’

¹²Oare nu Ezechia a îndepărtat înălţimile şi altarele Domnului, şi a dat porunca aceasta lui Iuda şi Ierusalimului: ,,Să vă închinaţi numai unui altar, şi să aduceţi tămîie numai pe el?``

¹²Hasn’t the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You shall worship before one altar, and on it you shall burn incense?’

¹³Nu ştiţi ce am făcut noi, eu şi părinţii mei, tuturor popoarelor celorlalte ţări? Dumnezeii neamurilor acestor ţări au putut ei să le izbăvească ţările din mîna mea?

¹³Don’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?

¹⁴Care dintre toţi dumnezeii acestor neamuri pe cari le-au nimicit părinţii mei, a putut să izbăvească pe poporul lui din mîna mea, pentruca să vă poată izbăvi Dumnezeul vostru din mîna mea?

¹⁴Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?

¹⁵Să nu vă amăgească Ezechia dar şi să nu vă înşele astfel; nu vă încredeţi în el! Căci dumnezeul niciunui neam, niciunei împărăţii n'a putut să izbăvească pe poporul lui din mîna mea şi din mîna părinţilor mei: cu cît mai puţin vă va izbăvi Dumnezeul vostru din mîna mea!``

¹⁵Now therefore don’t let Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this way, neither believe him; for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand?”

¹⁶Slujitorii lui Sanherib au mai vorbit şi alte lucruri împotriva Domnului Dumnezeu, şi împotriva robului Său Ezechia.

¹⁶His servants spoke yet more against Yahweh God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

¹⁷Şi a trimes o scrisoare batjocoritoare pentru Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, vorbind astfel împotriva Lui: ,,După cum dumnezeii neamurilor celorlalte ţări n'au putut să izbăvească pe poporul lor din mîna mea, tot aşa nici Dumnezeul lui Ezechia nu va izbăvi pe poporul Său din mîna mea.

¹⁷He also wrote letters insulting Yahweh, the God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.”

¹⁸Slujitorii lui Sanherib au strigat cu glas tare în limba evreiască, pentruca să arunce groaza şi spaima în poporul din Ierusalim, care era pe zid, şi să poată pune astfel stăpînire pe cetate.

¹⁸They cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

¹⁹Au vorbit despre Dumnezeul Ierusalimului ca despre dumnezeii popoarelor pămîntului, cari sînt lucrarea mînilor omeneşti.

¹⁹They spoke of the God of Jerusalem, as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands.

²⁰Împăratul Ezechia şi proorocul Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ, au început să se roage pentru lucrul acesta şi au strigat către cer.

²⁰Hezekiah the king, and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.

²¹Atunci Domnul a trimes un înger care a nimicit în tabăra împăratului Asiriei pe toţi vitejii, domnitorii şi căpeteniile. Şi împăratul s'a întors ruşinat în ţara lui. A intrat în casa dumnezeului său, şi cei ce ieşiseră din coapsele lui l-au ucis acolo cu sabia.

²¹Yahweh sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, those who came forth from his own bowels killed him there with the sword.

²²Astfel a scăpat Domnul pe Ezechia şi pe locuitorii Ierusalimului din mîna lui Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei, şi din mîna tuturor, şi i -a ocrotit împotriva celor ce -i împresurau.

²²Thus Yahweh saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.

²³Mulţi au adus Domnului daruri în Ierusalim, şi au adus daruri bogate lui Ezechia, împăratul lui Iuda, care de atunci s'a înălţat

²³Many brought gifts to Yahweh to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah; so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.

²⁴În vremea aceea, Ezechia a fost bolnav de moarte. El a făcut o rugăciune Domnului. Domnul i -a vorbit, şi i -a dat un semn.

²⁴In those days Hezekiah was sick even to death: and he prayed to Yahweh; and he spoke to him, and gave him a sign.

²⁵Dar Ezechia n'a răsplătit binefacerea pe care a primit -o, căci i s'a îngîmfat inima. Mînia Domnului a venit peste el, peste Iuda şi peste Ierusalim.

²⁵But Hezekiah didn’t render again according to the benefit done to him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem.

²⁶Atunci Ezechia s'a smerit din mîndria lui, împreună cu locuitorii Ierusalimului, şi mînia Domnului n'a venit peste ei în timpul vieţii lui Ezechia.

²⁶Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Yahweh didn’t come on them in the days of Hezekiah.

²⁷Ezechia a avut multe bogăţii şi multă slavă. Şi -a făcut vistierii de argint, de aur, de pietre scumpe, de mirodenii, de scuturi, şi de toate lucrurile cari se pot dori;

²⁷Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honor: and he provided him treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all kinds of goodly vessels;

²⁸hambare pentru roadele de grîu, de must şi de untdelemn, grajduri pentru tot felul de vite, şi staule pentru oi.

²⁸storehouses also for the increase of grain and new wine and oil; and stalls for all kinds of animals, and flocks in folds.

²⁹Şi -a zidit cetăţi, şi a avut belşug de boi şi de oi; căci Dumnezeu îi dăduse multe avuţii.

²⁹Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him very much substance.

³⁰Tot Ezechia a astupat şi gura de sus a apelor Ghihon, şi le -a adus în jos spre apus de cetatea lui David. Ezechia a izbutit în toate lucrările lui.

³⁰This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of the city of David. Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

³¹Însă, cînd au trimes căpeteniile Babilonului soli la el să întrebe de minunea care avusese loc în ţară, Dumnezeu l -a părăsit ca să -l încerce, pentruca să cunoască tot ce era în inima lui.

³¹However concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

³²Celelalte fapte ale lui Ezechia, şi faptele lui evlavioase, sînt scrise în vedenia proorocului Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ, în cartea împăraţilor lui Iuda şi Israel.

³²Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

³³Ezechia a adormit cu părinţii săi, şi l-au îngropat în cel mai bun loc al mormintelor fiilor lui David. Tot Iuda şi locuitorii Ierusalimului i-au dat cinste la moarte. Şi, în locul lui, a domnit fiul său Manase.

³³Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the tombs of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death. Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
