¹Cînd a auzit împăratul Ezechia lucrul acesta, şi -a sfîşiat hainele, s'a acoperit cu un sac, şi s'a dus în Casa Domnului.

¹It happened, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Yahweh.

²A trimes pe Eliachim, căpetenia casei împăratului, pe Şebna, logofătul, şi pe preoţii cei mai bătrîni, acoperiţi cu saci, la proorocul Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ.

²He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

³Şi i-au zis: ,,Aşa vorbeşte Ezechia: Ziua aceasta este o zi de necaz, de pedeapsă şi de ocară; căci copiii sînt aproape să iasă din pîntecele mamei, şi nu este putere pentru naştere.

³They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah, ‘This day is a day of trouble, of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to deliver them.

⁴Poate că Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, a auzit toate cuvintele lui Rabşache, pe care l -a trimes împăratul Asiriei, stăpînul său, să batjocorească pe Dumnezeul cel viu, şi poate că Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, îl va pedepsi pentru cuvintele pe cari le -a auzit. Înalţă dar o rugăciune pentru ceilalţi cari au mai rămas.``

⁴It may be Yahweh your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Yahweh your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’”

⁵Slujitorii împăratului Ezechia s'au dus dar la Isaia.

⁵So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

⁶Şi Isaia le -a zis: ,,Iată ce să spuneţi stăpînului vostru: ,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ,Nu te speria de cuvintele pe cari le-ai auzit şi prin cari M'au batjocorit slujitorii împăratului Asiriei.

⁶Isaiah said to them, “Thus you shall tell your master, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

⁷Voi pune în el un duh care îl va face ca, la auzul unei veşti pe care o va primi, să se întoarcă în ţara lui; şi -l voi face să cadă ucis de sabie în ţara lui.``

⁷Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he will hear news, and will return to his own land. I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.”’”

⁸Rabşache, plecînd, a găsit pe împăratul Asiriei luptînd împotriva Libnei, căci aflase de plecarea lui din Lachis.

⁸So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he had departed from Lachish.

⁹Atunci împăratul Asiriei a primit o veste cu privire la Tirhaca, împăratul Etiopiei. I s'a spus: ,,Iată că acela a pornit cu război împotriva ta.`` Şi împăratul Asiriei a trimes soli din nou lui Ezechia, zicînd:

⁹When he heard it said of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “Behold, he has come out to fight against you, he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,

¹⁰,,Aşa să vorbiţi lui Ezechia, împăratul lui Iuda: ,Să nu te înşele Dumnezeul tău, în care te încrezi, zicînd: ,Ierusalimul nu va fi dat în mînile împăratului Asiriei.`

¹⁰‘Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, “Don’t let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

¹¹Iată, ai auzit ce au făcut împăraţii Asiriei tuturor ţărilor, şi cum le-au nimicit; şi tu, să fii izbăvit!

¹¹Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Will you be delivered?

¹²Dumnezeii neamurilor pe cari le-au nimicit părinţii mei, au izbăvit ei pe Gozan, Haran, Reţef, şi pe fiii lui Eden din Telasar?

¹²Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden that were in Telassar?

¹³Unde este împăratul Hamatului, împăratul Arpadului, şi împăratul cetăţii Sefarvaimului, Henei şi Ivei?``

¹³Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?”’”

¹⁴Ezechia a luat scrisoarea din mîna solilor, şi a citit -o. Apoi s'a suit la Casa Domnului, şi a întins -o înaintea Domnului,

¹⁴Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to the house of Yahweh, and spread it before Yahweh.

¹⁵căruia i -a făcut următoarea rugăciune: ,,Doamne, Dumnezeul lui Israel, care şezi pe heruvimi! Tu eşti singurul Dumnezeu al tuturor împărăţiilor pămîntului! Tu ai făcut cerurile şi pămîntul.

¹⁵Hezekiah prayed before Yahweh, and said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, who sit above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

¹⁶Doamne, pleacă-Ţi urechea, şi ascultă! Doamne, deschide-Ţi ochii, şi priveşte. Auzi cuvintele lui Sanherib, care a trimes pe Rabşache să batjocorească pe Dumnezeul cel viu.

¹⁶Incline your ear, Yahweh, and hear. Open your eyes, Yahweh, and see. Hear the words of Sennacherib, with which he has sent to defy the living God.

¹⁷Da, Doamne, este adevărat că împăraţii Asiriei, au nimicit neamurile şi le-au pustiit ţările,

¹⁷Truly, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,

¹⁸şi că au aruncat în foc pe dumnezeii lor; dar ei nu erau dumnezei, ci erau lucrări făcute de mîna omului, erau lemn şi piatră; şi i-au nimicit.

¹⁸and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

¹⁹Acum, Doamne, Dumnezeul nostru, izbăveşte-ne din mîna lui Sanherib, ca să ştie toate împărăţiile pămîntului că numai Tu eşti Dumnezeu, Doamne!``

¹⁹Now therefore, Yahweh our God, save us, I beg you, out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Yahweh, are God alone.”

²⁰Atunci Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ, a trimes să spună lui Ezechia: Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel ,,Am auzit rugăciunea pe care Mi-ai făcut -o cu privire la Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei.

²⁰Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘Whereas you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard you.

²¹Iată cuvîntul pe care l -a rostit Domnul împotriva lui: ,Fecioara, fiica Sionului, te dispreţuieşte şi rîde de tine; fata Ierusalimului dă din cap după tine.

²¹This is the word that Yahweh has spoken concerning him: “The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

²²Pe cine ai batjocorit şi ai ocărît tu? Împotriva cui ai ridicat glasul? Şi împotriva cui ţi-ai ridicat ochii? Împotriva Sfîntului lui Israel!

²²Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel.

²³Prin solii tăi ai batjocorit pe Domnul, şi ai zis: ,Cu mulţimea carălor mele, am suit vîrful munţilor, coastele Libanului! Voi tăia cei mai înalţi cedri ai lui, cei mai frumoşi chiparoşi ai lui, şi voi atinge creasta lui cea mai înaltă, pădurea lui care este ca o grădină de poame;

²³By your messengers you have defied the Lord, and have said, ‘With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon; and I will cut down its tall cedars, and its choice fir trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field.

²⁴am săpat, şi am băut ape străine, şi voi seca cu talpa picioarelor mele toate rîurile Egiptului.

²⁴I have dug and drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet will I dry up all the rivers of Egypt.’

²⁵N'ai auzit că Eu de mult am pregătit aceste lucruri, şi că le-am hotărît din vremurile vechi? Acum însă am îngăduit să se împlinească, şi să prefaci cetăţi întărite în mormane de dărîmături.

²⁵Haven’t you heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? Now have I brought it to pass, that it should be yours to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.

²⁶Locuitorii lor sînt neputincioşi, îngroziţi şi înmărmuriţi; au ajuns ca iarba de pe cîmp şi ca verdeaţa fragedă, ca iarba de pe coperişuri şi ca grîul care se usucă înainte de a -i da spicul.

²⁶Therefore their inhabitants were of small power. They were dismayed and confounded. They were like the grass of the field, and like the green herb, like the grass on the housetops, and like grain blasted before it has grown up.

²⁷Dar ştiu cînd stai jos, cînd ieşi şi cînd intri, şi cînd eşti furios împotriva Mea.

²⁷But I know your sitting down, and your going out, and your coming in, and your raging against me.

²⁸Pentrucă eşti furios împotriva Mea, şi pentrucă trufia ta a ajuns pînă la urechile Mele, de aceea voi pune belciugul Meu în nările tale, şi zăbala Mea între buzele tale, şi te voi face să te întorci pe drumul pe care ai venit.`

²⁸Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore will I put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.”

²⁹Acesta să-ţi fie semnul: Anul acesta veţi mînca ce creşte dela sine, şi al doilea an ce va răsări din rădăcinile rămase; dar în al treilea an veţi sămăna, veţi secera, veţi sădi vii, şi veţi mînca din rodul lor.

²⁹“‘This shall be the sign to you: You shall eat this year that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs of the same; and in the third year sow, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat its fruit.

³⁰Rămăşiţa din casa lui Iuda, ce va mai rămînea, va prinde iarăş rădăcini de desupt, şi deasupra va da rod.

³⁰The remnant that has escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.

³¹Căci din Ierusalim va ieşi o rămăşiţă, şi din muntele Sionului cei scăpaţi. Iată ce va face rîvna Domnului oştirilor.

³¹For out of Jerusalem a remnant will go out, and out of Mount Zion those who shall escape. The zeal of Yahweh will perform this.’

³²De aceea, aşa vorbeşte Domnul asupra împăratului Asiriei: ,Nu va intra în cetatea aceasta, nici nu va arunca săgeţi în ea, nu va sta înaintea ei cu scuturi, şi nu va ridica întărituri de şanţuri împotriva ei.

³²“Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He shall not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither shall he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.

³³Se va întoarce pe drumul pe care a venit, şi nu va intra în cetatea aceasta, zice Domnul.

³³By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and he shall not come to this city,’ says Yahweh.

³⁴Căci Eu voi ocroti cetatea aceasta ca s'o mîntuiesc, din pricina Mea, şi din pricina robului Meu David.`

³⁴‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.’”

³⁵În noaptea aceea, a ieşit îngerul Domnului, şi a ucis în tabăra Asirienilor o sută optzeci şi cinci de mii de oameni. Şi cînd s'au sculat dimineaţa, iată că toţi erau nişte trupuri moarte.

³⁵It happened that night, that the angel of Yahweh went out, and struck one hundred eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

³⁶Atunci Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei, şi -a ridicat tabăra, a plecat şi s'a întors; şi a locuit la Ninive.

³⁶So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and lived at Nineveh.

³⁷Şi, pe cînd se închina în casa dumnezeului său Nisroc, Adramelec şi Şareţer, fiii săi, l-au ucis cu sabia, şi au fugit în ţara Ararat. Şi, în locul lui, a domnit fiul său Esar-Hadon.

³⁷It happened, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Esar Haddon his son reigned in his place.
