¹Prea iubiţilor, aceasta este a doua epistolă, pe care v'o scriu. În amîndouă, caut să vă trezesc mintea sănătoasă, prin înştiinţări,

¹This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you;

²ca să vă fac să vă aduceţi aminte de lucrurile vestite mai dinainte de sfinţii prooroci, şi de porunca Domnului şi Mîntuitorului nostru, dată prin apostolii voştri.

²that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior:

³Înainte de toate, să ştiţi că în zilele din urmă vor veni batjocoritori plini de batjocuri, cari vor trăi după poftele lor,

³knowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts,

⁴şi vor zice: ,,Unde este făgăduinţa venirii Lui? Căci de cînd au adormit părinţii noştri, toate rămîn aşa cum erau dela începutul zidirii!``

⁴and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

⁵Căci înadins se fac că nu ştiu că odinioară erau ceruri şi un pămînt scos prin Cuvîntul lui Dumnezeu din apă şi cu ajutorul apei,

⁵For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water, by the word of God;

⁶şi că lumea de atunci a perit tot prin ele, înecată de apă.

⁶by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished.

⁷Iar cerurile şi pămîntul de acum sînt păzite şi păstrate, prin acelaş Cuvînt, pentru focul din ziua de judecată şi de peire a oamenilor nelegiuiţi.

⁷But the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

⁸Dar, prea iubiţilor, să nu uitaţi un lucru: că, pentru Domnul, o zi este ca o mie de ani, şi o mie de ani sînt ca o zi.

⁸But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

⁹Domnul nu întîrzie în împlinirea făgăduinţei Lui, cum cred unii; ci are o îndelungă răbdare pentru voi, şi doreşte ca nici unul să nu piară, ci toţi să vină la pocăinţă.

⁹The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

¹⁰Ziua Domnului însă va veni ca un hoţ. În ziua aceea, cerurile vor trece cu troznet, trupurile cereşti se vor topi de mare căldură, şi pămîntul, cu tot ce este pe el, va arde.

¹⁰But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

¹¹Deci, fiindcă toate aceste lucruri au să se strice, ce fel de oameni ar trebui să fiţi voi, printr'o purtare sfîntă şi evlavioasă,

¹¹Therefore since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness,

¹²aşteptînd şi grăbind venirea zilei lui Dumnezeu, în care cerurile aprinse vor pieri, şi trupurile cereşti se vor topi de căldura focului?

¹²looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?

¹³Dar noi, după făgăduinţa Lui, aşteptăm ceruri noi şi un pămînt nou, în care va locui neprihănirea.

¹³But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

¹⁴De aceea, prea iubiţilor, fiindcă aşteptaţi aceste lucruri, siliţi-vă să fiţi găsiţi înaintea Lui fără prihană, fără vină, şi în pace.

¹⁴Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without blemish and blameless in his sight.

¹⁵Să credeţi că îndelunga răbdare a Domnului nostru este mîntuire, cum v'a scris şi prea iubitul nostru frate Pavel, după înţelepciunea dată lui,

¹⁵Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you;

¹⁶ca şi în toate epistolele lui, cînd vorbeşte despre lucrurile acestea. În ele sînt unele lucruri grele de înţeles, pe cari cei neştiutori şi nestatornici le răstîlmăcesc ca şi pe celelalte Scripturi, spre pierzarea lor.

¹⁶as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those, there are some things that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

¹⁷Voi deci, prea iubiţilor, ştiind mai dinainte aceste lucuri, păziţi-vă ca nu cumva să vă lăsaţi tîrîţi de rătăcirea acestor nelegiuiţi, şi să vă pierdeţi tăria;

¹⁷You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness.

¹⁸ci creşteţi în harul şi în cunoştinţa Domnului şi Mîntuitorului nostru Isus Hristos. A Lui să fie slava, acum şi în ziua veciniciei. Amin

¹⁸But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
