¹Cînd trecuse David puţin de vîrf, iată că Ţiba, slujitorul lui Mefiboşet, a venit înaintea lui cu doi măgari înşălaţi, pe cari erau două sute de pîni, o sută de turte de stafide, o sută de roade de vară, şi un burduf cu vin.

¹When David was a little past the top, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of donkeys saddled, and on them two hundred loaves of bread, and one hundred clusters of raisins, and one hundred summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.

²Împăratul a zis lui Ţiba: ,,Ce vrei să faci cu acestea?`` Şi Ţiba a răspuns: ,,Măgarii sînt pentru casa împăratului, pentru călărie, pînile şi roadele de vară sînt pentru hrana tinerilor, şi vinul pentru potolirea setei celor ce vor fi obosiţi în pustie.

²The king said to Ziba, What do you mean by these? Ziba said, The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as are faint in the wilderness may drink.

³Împăratul a zis: ,Unde este fiul stăpînului tău?` Şi Ţiba a răspuns împăratului: ,Iată, a rămas la Ierusalim, căci a zis: ,Astăzi casa lui Israel îmi va da înapoi împărăţia tatălui meu.``

³The king said, “Where is your master’s son?” Ziba said to the king, “Behold, he is staying in Jerusalem; for he said, ‘Today the house of Israel will restore me the kingdom of my father.’”

⁴Împăratul a zis lui Ţiba: ,,Tot ce este al lui Mefiboşet este al tău.`` Şi Ţiba a zis: ,,Mă închin cu plecăciune! Să capăt trecere înaintea ta, împărate, domnul meu!``

⁴Then the king said to Ziba, “Behold, all that pertains to Mephibosheth is yours.” Ziba said, “I do obeisance. Let me find favor in your sight, my lord, O king.”

⁵David ajunsese pînă la Bahurim. Şi de acolo a ieşit un om din familia şi din casa lui Saul, numit Şimei, fiul lui Ghera. El îaninta blestemînd,

⁵When king David came to Bahurim, behold, a man of the family of the house of Saul came out, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera. He came out, and cursed still as he came.

⁶şi a aruncat cu pietre după David şi după toţi slujitorii împăratului David, în timp ce tot poporul şi toţi vitejii stăteau la dreapta şi la stînga împăratului.

⁶He cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David, and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.

⁷Şimei vorbea astfel cînd blestema: ,,Du-te, du-te, om al sîngelui, om rău!

⁷Shimei said when he cursed, “Be gone, be gone, you man of blood, and base fellow!

⁸Domnul face să cadă asupra ta pedeapsa pentru tot sîngele casei lui Saul, al cărui scaun de domnie l-ai luat, şi Domnul a dat împărăţia în mînile fiului tău Absalom; şi iată-te nenorocit, căci eşti un om al sîngelui!``

⁸Yahweh has returned on you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned! Yahweh has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son! Behold, you are caught by your own mischief, because you are a man of blood!”

⁹Atunci Abişai, fiul Ţeruiei, a zis împăratului: ,,Pentruce bleastămă acest cîne mort pe domnul meu împăratul? Lasă-mă, te rog, să mă duc să -i tai capul.``

⁹Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Please let me go over and take off his head.”

¹⁰Dar împăratul a zis: ,,Ce aveţi voi cu mine, fiii Ţeruiei? Dacă bleastămă, înseamnă că Domnul i -a zis: ,Bleastămă pe David!` Cine -i... va zice dar: ,Pentruce faci aşa?``

¹⁰The king said, “What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? Because he curses, and because Yahweh has said to him, ‘Curse David;’ who then shall say, ‘Why have you done so?’”

¹¹Şi David a zis lui Abişai şi tuturor slujitorilor săi: ,,Iată că fiul meu, care a ieşit din trupul meu, vrea să-mi ia viaţa; cu cît mai mult Beniamitul acesta! Lăsaţi -l să blesteme, căci Domnul i -a zis.

¹¹David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, “Behold, my son, who came forth from my bowels, seeks my life. How much more this Benjamite, now? Leave him alone, and let him curse; for Yahweh has invited him.

¹²Poate că Domnul se va uita la necazul meu, şi-mi va face bine în locul blestemelor de azi.``

¹²It may be that Yahweh will look on the wrong done to me, and that Yahweh will repay me good for the cursing of me today.”

¹³David şi oamenii lui şi-au văzut de drum. Şimei mergea pe coasta muntelui, în dreptul lui David, şi mergînd, blestema, arunca cu pietre împotriva lui, şi vîntura praf.

¹³So David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hillside opposite him, and cursed as he went, threw stones at him, and threw dust.

¹⁴Împăratul şi tot poporul care era cu el au ajuns la Aiefim, şi acolo s'au odihnit.

¹⁴The king, and all the people who were with him, came weary; and he refreshed himself there.

¹⁵Absalom şi tot poporul, bărbaţii lui Israel, intraseră în Ierusalim. Ahitofel era şi el cu Absalom.

¹⁵Absalom, and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.

¹⁶Cînd a ajuns Huşai, Architul, prietenul lui David, la Absalom, i -a zis: ,,Trăiască împăratul! Trăiască împăratul!``

¹⁶It happened, when Hushai the Archite, David’s friend, had come to Absalom, that Hushai said to Absalom, “Long live the king! Long live the king!”

¹⁷Şi Absalom a zis lui Huşai: ,,Iată cît de mult ţii tu la prietenul tău! Pentru ce nu te-ai dus cu prietenul tău?``

¹⁷Absalom said to Hushai, “Is this your kindness to your friend? Why didn’t you go with your friend?”

¹⁸Huşai a răspuns lui Absalom: ,,Pentru că vreau să fiu al aceluia pe care l -a ales Domnul şi tot poporul acesta şi toţi bărbaţii lui Israel, şi cu el vreau să rămîn.

¹⁸Hushai said to Absalom, “No; but whomever Yahweh, and this people, and all the men of Israel have chosen, his will I be, and with him I will stay.

¹⁹De altfel, cui îi voi sluji? Nu fiului său? Cum am slujit tatălui tău, aşa îţi voi sluji şi ţie.``

¹⁹Again, whom should I serve? Shouldn’t I serve in the presence of his son? As I have served in your father’s presence, so will I be in your presence.”

²⁰Absalom a zis lui Ahitofel: ,,Sfătuiţi-vă împreună; ce avem de făcut?``

²⁰Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, “Give your counsel what we shall do.”

²¹Şi Ahitofel a zis lui Absalom: ,,Intră la ţiitoarele pe cari le -a lăsat tatăl tău pentru paza casei; astfel, tot Israelul va şti că te-ai făcut urît tatălui tău, şi mînile tuturor... celor ce sînt cu tine se vor întări.``

²¹Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Go in to your father’s concubines, that he has left to keep the house. Then all Israel will hear that you are abhorred by your father. Then the hands of all who are with you will be strong.”

²²Au întins un cort pentru Absalom pe acoperiş, şi Absalom a intrat la ţiitoarele tatălui său, în faţa întregului Israel.

²²So they spread Absalom a tent on the top of the house; and Absalom went in to his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.

²³Sfatul dat pe vremea aceea de Ahitofel avea tot atîta putere ca şi cînd ar fi întrebat chiar pe Dumnezeu. Tot aşa era cu toate sfaturile lui Ahitofel, fie pentru David, fie pentru Absalom.

²³The counsel of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if a man inquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.
