¹În noaptea aceea, împăratul n'a putut să doarmă, şi a poruncit să -i aducă lîngă el cartea aducerilor aminte, Cronicile. Le-au citit înaintea împăratului,

¹On that night, the king couldn’t sleep. He commanded the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read to the king.

²şi s'a găsit scris ce descoperise Mardoheu cu privire la Bigtan şi Tereş, cei doi fameni ai împăratului, păzitorii pragului, cari voiseră să întindă mîna asupra împăratului Ahaşveroş.

²It was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, who were doorkeepers, who had tried to lay hands on the King Ahasuerus.

³Împăratul a zis: ,,Ce cinste şi mărire i s'a făcut lui Mardoheu pentru aceasta?`` ,,Nu i s'a făcut nimic,`` au răspuns cei ce slujeau împăratului.

³The king said, “What honor and dignity has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?” Then the king’s servants who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.”

⁴Atunci împăratul a zis: ,,Cine este în curte?`` -Haman venise în curtea de afară a casei împăratului, să ceară împăratului să spînzure pe Mardoheu pe lemnul pe care -l pregătise pentru el. -

⁴The king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had come into the outer court of the king’s house, to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

⁵Slujitorii împăratului i-au răspuns: ,,Haman este în curte.`` Şi împăratul a zis: ,,Să intre.``

⁵The king’s servants said to him, “Behold, Haman stands in the court.” The king said, “Let him come in.”

⁶Haman a intrat, şi împăratul i -a zis: ,,Ce trebuie făcut pentru un om pe care vrea să -l cinstească împăratul?`` Haman şi -a zis în sine: ,,Pe cine altul decît pe mine ar vrea împăratul să -l cinstească?``

⁶So Haman came in. The king said to him, “What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?” Now Haman said in his heart, “Who would the king delight to honor more than myself?”

⁷Şi Haman a răspuns împăratului: ,,Omului pe care vrea împăratul să -l cinstească,

⁷Haman said to the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honor,

⁸trebuie să i se aducă haina împărătească, aceea cu care se îmbracă împăratul, şi calul pe care călăreşte împăratul, şi să i se pună cununa împărătească pe cap.

⁸let royal clothing be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides on, and on the head of which a crown royal is set.

⁹Să se dea haina şi calul uneia din căpeteniile de seamă ale împăratului, apoi să înbrace cu haina pe omul acela pe care vrea să -l cinstească împăratul, să -l plimbe călare pe cal prin locul deschis al cetăţii, şi să se strige înaintea lui: ,Aşa se face omului pe care vrea împăratul să -l cinstească!``

⁹Let the clothing and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man whom the king delights to honor with them, and have him ride on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him, ‘Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!’”

¹⁰Împăratul i -a zis lui Haman: ,,Ia îndată haina şi calul, cum ai zis, şi fă aşa Iudeului Mardoheu, care şade la poarta împăratului. Nu lăsa nefăcut nimic din ce ai spus.``

¹⁰Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry and take the clothing and the horse, as you have said, and do this for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Let nothing fail of all that you have spoken.”

¹¹Şi Haman a luat haina şi calul, a îmbrăcat pe Mardoheu, l -a plimbat călare pe cal prin locul deschis al cetăţii, şi a strigat înaintea lui: ,,Aşa se face omului pe care vrea împăratul să -l cinstească!``

¹¹Then Haman took the clothing and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and had him ride through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!”

¹²Mardoheu s'a întors la poarta împăratului, şi Haman s'a dus în grabă acasă, mîhnit şi cu capul acoperit.

¹²Mordecai came back to the king’s gate, but Haman hurried to his house, mourning and having his head covered.

¹³Haman a istorisit nevestei sale Zereş şi tuturor prietenilor săi tot ce i se întîmplase. Şi înţelepţii lui, şi nevastă-sa Zereş, i-au zis: ,,Dacă Mardoheu, înaintea căruia ai început să cazi, este din neamul Iudeilor, nu vei putea face nimic împotriva lui, ci vei cădea înaintea lui.``

¹³Haman recounted to Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against him, but you will surely fall before him.”

¹⁴Pe cînd îi vorbeau ei încă, au venit famenii împăratului şi au luat îndată pe Haman la ospăţul pe care -l pregătise Estera.

¹⁴While they were yet talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
