¹Moise şi Aaron s'au dus apoi la Faraon, şi i-au zis: ,,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ,Lasă pe poporul Meu să plece, ca să prăznuiască în pustie un praznic în cinstea Mea.``

¹Afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said to Pharaoh, “This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.’”

²Faraon a răspuns: ,,Cine este Domnul, ca să ascult de glasul Lui, şi să las pe Israel să plece?`` Eu nu cunosc pe Domnul, şi nu voi lăsa pe Israel să plece.``

²Pharaoh said, “Who is Yahweh, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I don’t know Yahweh, and moreover I will not let Israel go.”

³Ei au zis: ,,Ni S'a arătat Dumnezeul Evreilor. Dă-ne voie să facem un drum de trei zile în pustie, ca să aducem jertfe Domnului, pentruca să nu ne bată cu ciumă sau cu sabie.``

³They said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to Yahweh, our God, lest he fall on us with pestilence, or with the sword.”

⁴Şi împăratul Egiptului le -a zis: ,,Moise şi Aaron, pentruce abateţi poporul de la lucrul lui? Plecaţi la lucrările voastre.``

⁴The king of Egypt said to them, “Why do you, Moses and Aaron, take the people from their work? Get back to your burdens!”

⁵Faraon a zis: ,,Iată că poporul acesta s'a înmulţit acum în ţară, şi voi mai voiţi să -l faceţi să-şi înceteze lucrările?``

⁵Pharaoh said, “Behold, the people of the land are now many, and you make them rest from their burdens.”

⁶Şi chiar în ziua aceea, Faraon a dat următoarea poruncă isprăvniceilor norodului şi logofeţilor:

⁶The same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

⁷,,Să nu mai daţi poporului paie ca mai înainte pentru facerea cărămizilor; ci să se ducă singuri să strîngă paie.

⁷“You shall no longer give the people straw to make brick, as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.

⁸Totuş să le cereţi acelaş număr de cărămizi, pe cari le făceau mai înainte; să nu le scădeţi nimic din ele, căci sînt nişte leneşi; de aceea strigă mereu: ,Haidem să aducem jertfe Dumnezeului nostru.`

⁸The number of the bricks, which they made before, you require from them. You shall not diminish anything of it, for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’

⁹Să se dea mult de lucru oamenilor acestora, ca să aibă de lucru, şi să nu mai umble după năluci.``

⁹Let heavier work be laid on the men, that they may labor therein; and don’t let them pay any attention to lying words.”

¹⁰Isprăvniceii poporului şi logofeţii au venit şi au spus poporului: ,,Aşa vorbeşte Faraon: ,Nu vă mai dau paie;

¹⁰The taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I will not give you straw.

¹¹duceţi-vă singuri de vă luaţi paie de unde veţi găsi; dar nu vi se scade nimic din lucrul vostru.``

¹¹Go yourselves, get straw where you can find it, for nothing of your work shall be diminished.’”

¹²Poporul s'a răspîndit în toată ţara Egiptului, ca să strîngă mirişte în loc de paie.

¹²So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.

¹³Isprăvniceii îi sileau, zicînd: ,,Isprăviţi-vă lucrul, zi de zi, ca şi atunci cînd erau paie!``

¹³The taskmasters were urgent saying, “Fulfill your work quota daily, as when there was straw!”

¹⁴Au bătut chiar pe logofeţii copiilor lui Israel, puşi peste ei de isprăvniceii lui Faraon. ,,Pentruce``, li se zicea, ,,n'aţi isprăvit ieri şi azi, ca mai înainte, numărul de cărămizi, care vă fusese hotărît?``

¹⁴The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, “Why haven’t you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?”

¹⁵Logofeţii copiilor lui Israel s'au dus să se plîngă la Faraon, şi i-au zis: ,,Pentruce te porţi aşa cu robii tăi?

¹⁵Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, saying, “Why do you deal this way with your servants?

¹⁶Robilor tăi nu li se mai dau paie ca mai înainte, şi totuş ni se spune: ,Faceţi cărămizi!` Ba încă, robii tăi sînt şi bătuţi, ca şi cînd poporul tău ar fi vinovat.``

¹⁶No straw is given to your servants, and they tell us, ‘Make brick!’ and behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people.”

¹⁷Faraon a răspuns: ,,Sînteţi nişte leneşi şi nişte trîntori! De aceea ziceţi: ,Haidem să aducem jertfe Domnului!`

¹⁷But he said, “You are idle! You are idle! Therefore you say, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to Yahweh.’

¹⁸Acum, duceţi-vă îndată de lucraţi; nu vi se vor da paie, şi veţi face acelaş număr de cărămizi.``

¹⁸Go therefore now, and work, for no straw shall be given to you, yet you shall deliver the same number of bricks!”

¹⁹Logofeţii copiilor lui Israel au văzut în ce stare nenorocită erau, cînd li se zicea: ,,Nu vi se scade nimic din numărul de cărămizi; ci în fiecare zi să faceţi lucrul cuvenit unei zile.``

¹⁹The officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in trouble, when it was said, “You shall not diminish anything from your daily quota of bricks!”

²⁰Cînd au ieşit dela Faraon, au întîlnit pe Moise şi pe Aaron, care îi aşteptau.

²⁰They met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came out from Pharaoh:

²¹Şi le-au zis: ,,Să vă vadă Domnul, şi să judece! Voi ne-aţi făcut urîţi lui Faraon şi slujitorilor lui; ba încă le-aţi dat sabia în mînă ca să ne omoare.``

²¹and they said to them, “May Yahweh look at you, and judge, because you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

²²Moise s'a întors la Domnul, şi a zis: ,,Doamne, pentruce ai făcut un astfel de rău poporului acestuia? Pentruce m'ai trimes?

²²Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Why is it that you have sent me?

²³De cînd m'am dus la Faraon ca să -i vorbesc în Numele Tău, el face şi mai rău poporului acestuia; şi n'ai izbăvit pe poporul Tău.``

²³For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people; neither have you delivered your people at all.”
