¹Apoi a strigat cu glas tare la urechile mele: ,,Apropiaţi-vă voi cari trebuie să pedepsiţi cetatea, fiecare cu unealta lui de nimicire în mînă!``

¹Then he cried in my ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause those who are in charge of the city to draw near, every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.

²Şi iată că au venit şase oameni de pe drumul porţii de sus dinspre miază noapte, fiecare cu unealta lui de nimicire în mînă. În mijlocul lor era un om îmbrăcat într -o haină de in, şi cu o călimară la brîu. Au venit şi s'au aşezat lîngă altarul de aramă.

²Behold, six men came from the way of the upper gate, which lies toward the north, every man with his slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man in their midst clothed in linen, with a writer’s inkhorn by his side. They went in, and stood beside the bronze altar.

³Slava Dumnezeului lui Israel s'a ridicat de pe heruvimul pe care era, şi s'a îndreptat spre pragul casei; şi el a chemat pe omul acela care era îmbrăcat cu haina de in şi care avea călimara la brîu.

³The glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon it was, to the threshold of the house: and he called to the man clothed in linen, who had the writer’s inkhorn by his side.

⁴Domnul i -a zis: ,,Treci prin mijlocul cetăţii, prin mijlocul Ierusalimului, şi fă un semn pe fruntea oamenilor, cari suspină şi gem din pricina tuturor urîciunilor, cari se săvîrşesc acolo.

⁴Yahweh said to him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark on the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry over all the abominations that are done in its midst.

⁵Iar celorlalţi le -a zis, în auzul meu: ,,Treceţi după el în cetate, şi loviţi; ochiul vostru să fie fără milă, şi să nu vă înduraţi!

⁵To the others he said in my hearing, Go through the city after him, and strike: don’t let your eye spare, neither have pity;

⁶Ucideţi, şi nimiciţi pe bătrîni, pe tineri, pe fecioare, pe copii şi pe femei; dar să nu vă atingeţi de nici unul din ceice au semnul pe frunte! Începeţi însă cu Locaşul Meu cel sfînt!`` Ei au început cu bătrînii, cari erau înaintea Templului.

⁶kill utterly the old man, the young man and the virgin, and little children and women; but don’t come near any man on whom is the mark: and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the old men that were before the house.

⁷Şi El le -a zis: ,,Spurcaţi casa, şi umpleţi curţile cu morţi!... Ieşiţi...`` Ei au ieşit, şi au început să ucidă în cetate.

⁷He said to them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain. Go forth! They went forth, and struck in the city.

⁸Pe cînd ucideau ei astfel, şi eu stam încă singur acolo, am căzut cu faţa la pămînt, şi am strigat: ,,Ah! Doamne Dumnezeule, vrei să nimiceşti oare tot ce a mai rămas din Israel, vărsîndu-Ţi urgia asupra Ierusalimului?``

⁸It happened, while they were smiting, and I was left, that I fell on my face, and cried, and said, Ah Lord Yahweh! will you destroy all the residue of Israel in your pouring out of your wrath on Jerusalem?

⁹El mi -a răspuns: ,,Nelegiuirea casei lui Israel şi Iuda este mare, peste măsură de mare! Ţara este plină de omoruri, şi cetatea este plină de nedreptate; căci ei zic: ,Domnul a părăsit ţara şi Domnul nu vede nimic!`

⁹Then he said to me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perversion: for they say, Yahweh has forsaken the land, and Yahweh doesn’t see.

¹⁰De aceea şi Eu voi fi fără milă, şi nu Mă voi îndura, ci voi face să cadă asupra capului lor faptele lor.``

¹⁰As for me also, my eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will bring their way on their head.

¹¹Şi iată că omul cel îmbrăcat în haina de in, şi care avea călimra la brîu, a adus următorul răspuns: ,,Am făcut ce mi-ai poruncit!``

¹¹Behold, the man clothed in linen, who had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as you have commanded me.
