¹Domnul Şi -a adus aminte de cele ce spusese Sarei, şi Domnul a împlinit faţă de Sara ce făgăduise.

¹Yahweh visited Sarah as he had said, and Yahweh did to Sarah as he had spoken.

²Sara a rămas însărcinată, şi a născut lui Avraam un fiu la bătrîneţă, la vremea hotărîtă, despre care -i vorbise Dumnezeu.

²Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

³Avraam a pus fiului său nou născut, pe care i -l născuse Sara, numele Isaac.

³Abraham called his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac. Isaac means “He laughs.”

⁴Avraam a tăiat împrejur pe fiul său Isaac, la vîrsta de opt zile, cum îi poruncise Dumnezeu.

⁴Abraham circumcised his son, Isaac, when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

⁵Avraam era în vîrstă de o sută de ani, la naşterea fiului său Isaac.

⁵Abraham was one hundred years old when his son, Isaac, was born to him.

⁶Şi Sara a zis: ,,Dumnezeu m'a făcut de rîs: oricine va auzi, va rîde de mine.``

⁶Sarah said, “God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me.”

⁷Şi a adăugat: ,,Cine s'ar fi gîndit să spună lui Avraam că Sara va da ţîţă la copii? Şi totuş i-am născut un fiu la bătrîneţă!``

⁷She said, “Who would have said to Abraham, that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.”

⁸Copilul s'a făcut mare, şi a fost înţercat. Avraam a făcut un ospăţ mare în ziua cînd a fost înţercat Isaac.

⁸The child grew, and was weaned. Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

⁹Sara a văzut rîzînd pe fiul pe care -l născuse lui Avraam Egipteanca Agar.

⁹Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.

¹⁰Şi a zis lui Avraam: ,,Izgoneşte pe roaba aceasta şi pe fiul ei; căci fiul roabei acesteia nu va moşteni împreună cu fiul meu, cu Isaac.``

¹⁰Therefore she said to Abraham, “Cast out this handmaid and her son! For the son of this handmaid will not be heir with my son, Isaac.”

¹¹Cuvintele acestea n'au plăcut de loc lui Avraam, din pricina fiului său.

¹¹The thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight on account of his son.

¹²Dar Dumnezeu a zis lui Avraam: ,,Să nu te mîhneşti de cuvintele acestea, din pricina copilului şi din pricina roabei tale: fă Sarei tot ce-ţi cere; căci numai din Isaac va ieşi o sămînţă, care va purta cu adevărat numele tău.

¹²God said to Abraham, “Don’t let it be grievous in your sight because of the boy, and because of your handmaid. In all that Sarah says to you, listen to her voice. For from Isaac will your seed be called.

¹³Dar şi pe fiul roabei tale îl voi face un neam, căci este sămînţa ta.``

¹³I will also make a nation of the son of the handmaid, because he is your seed.”

¹⁴A doua zi, Avraam s'a sculat de dimineaţă; a luat pîne şi un burduf cu apă, pe care l -a dat Agarei şi i l -a pus pe umăr; i -a dat şi copilul, şi i -a dat drumul. Ea a plecat, şi a rătăcit prin pustia Beer-Şeba.

¹⁴Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a bottle of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder; and gave her the child, and sent her away. She departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.

¹⁵Cînd s'a isprăvit apa din burduf, a aruncat copilul subt un tufiş,

¹⁵The water in the bottle was spent, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.

¹⁶şi s -a dus de a şezut în faţa lui la o mică depărtare de el, ca la o aruncătură de arc; căci zicea ea: ,,Să nu văd moartea copilului!`` A şezut dar în faţa lui la o parte, a ridicat glasul, şi a început să plîngă.

¹⁶She went and sat down opposite him, a good way off, about a bow shot away. For she said, “Don’t let me see the death of the child.” She sat over against him, and lifted up her voice, and wept.

¹⁷Dumnezeu a auzit glasul copilului; şi Îngerul lui Dumnezeu a strigat din cer pe Agar, şi i -a zis: ,,Ce ai tu, Agar? Nu te teme, căci Dumnezeu a auzit glasul copilului în locul unde este.

¹⁷God heard the voice of the boy. The angel of God called to Hagar out of the sky, and said to her, “What ails you, Hagar? Don’t be afraid. For God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.

¹⁸Scoală-te, ia copilul şi ţine -l de mînă; căci voi face din el un neam mare.``

¹⁸Get up, lift up the boy, and hold him in your hand. For I will make him a great nation.”

¹⁹Şi Dumnezeu i -a deschis ochii, şi ea a văzut un izvor de apă; s'a dus de a umplut burduful cu apă, şi a dat copilului să bea.

¹⁹God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. She went, filled the bottle with water, and gave the boy drink.

²⁰Dumnezeu a fost cu copilul, care a crescut, a locuit în pustie, şi a ajuns vînător cu arcul.

²⁰God was with the boy, and he grew. He lived in the wilderness, and became, as he grew up, an archer.

²¹A locuit în pustiul Paran, şi mamă-sa i -a luat o nevastă din ţara Egiptului.

²¹He lived in the wilderness of Paran. His mother took a wife for him out of the land of Egypt.

²²În vremea aceea, Abimelec, însoţit de Picol, căpetenia oştirii lui, a vorbit astfel lui Avraam: ,,Dumnezeu este cu tine în tot ce faci.

²²It happened at that time, that Abimelech and Phicol the captain of his army spoke to Abraham, saying, “God is with you in all that you do.

²³Jură-mi acum aici, pe Numele lui Dumnezeu, că nu mă vei înşela nici odată, nici pe mine, nici pe copiii mei, nici pe nepoţii mei, şi că vei avea faţă de mine şi faţă de ţara, în care locuieşti ca străin, aceeaş bunăvoinţă pe care o am eu faţă de tine.``

²³Now, therefore, swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son’s son. But according to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall do to me, and to the land in which you have lived as a foreigner.”

²⁴Avraam a zis: ,,Jur!``

²⁴Abraham said, “I will swear.”

²⁵Dar Avraam a băgat vină lui Abimelec pentru o fîntînă de apă, pe care puseseră mîna cu sila robii lui Abimelec.

²⁵Abraham complained to Abimelech because of a water well, which Abimelech’s servants had violently taken away.

²⁶Abimelec a răspuns: ,,Nu ştiu cine a făcut lucrul acesta; nici tu nu mi-ai dat de ştire, şi nici eu nu aflu decît azi.``

²⁶Abimelech said, “I don’t know who has done this thing. You didn’t tell me, neither did I hear of it, until today.”

²⁷Şi Avraam a luat oi şi boi, pe cari i -a dat lui Abimelec; şi au făcut legămînt amîndoi.

²⁷Abraham took sheep and cattle, and gave them to Abimelech. Those two made a covenant.

²⁸Avraam a pus de o parte şapte mieluşele din turmă.

²⁸Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.

²⁹Şi Abimelec a zis lui Avraam: ,,Ce sînt aceste şapte mieluşele, pe cari le-ai pus deoparte?``

²⁹Abimelech said to Abraham, “What do these seven ewe lambs which you have set by themselves mean?”

³⁰El a răspuns: ,,Trebuie să primeşti din mîna mea aceste şapte mieluşele, pentru ca să-mi slujească de mărturie că am săpat fîntîna aceasta.``

³⁰He said, “You shall take these seven ewe lambs from my hand, that it may be a witness to me, that I have dug this well.”

³¹Iată de ce locul acela se numeşte Beer-Şeba; căci acolo şi-au jurat ei credinţă unul altuia.

³¹Therefore he called that place Beersheba, Beersheba can mean “well of the oath” or “well of seven.” because they both swore there.

³²Astfel au făcut ei legămînt la Beer Şeba. După aceea, Abimelec s'a sculat împreună cu Picol, căpetenia oştirii sale, şi s'au întors în ţara Filistenilor.

³²So they made a covenant at Beersheba. Abimelech rose up with Phicol, the captain of his army, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

³³Avraam a sădit un tamarisc la Beer-Şeba; şi a chemat acolo Numele Domnului, Dumnezeului celui vecinic.

³³Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and called there on the name of Yahweh, the Everlasting God.

³⁴Avraam a locuit multă vreme ca străin în ţara Filistenilor.

³⁴Abraham lived as a foreigner in the land of the Philistines many days.
