¹După doi ani, Faraon a visat un vis. I se părea că stătea lîngă rîu (Nil).

¹It happened at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and behold, he stood by the river.

²Şi iată că şapte vaci frumoase la vedere şi grase la trup s'au suit din rîu, şi au început să pască prin mlaştini.

²Behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, sleek and fat, and they fed in the marsh grass.

³După ele s'au mai suit din rîu alte şapte vaci urîte la vedere şi slabe la trup, şi s'au aşezat lîngă ele pe marginea rîului.

³Behold, seven other cattle came up after them out of the river, ugly and thin, and stood by the other cattle on the brink of the river.

⁴Vacile urîte la vedere şi slabe la trup au mîncat pe cele şapte vaci frumoase la vedere şi grase la trup. Şi Faraon s'a trezit.

⁴The ugly and thin cattle ate up the seven sleek and fat cattle. So Pharaoh awoke.

⁵A adormit din nou, şi a visat un al doilea vis. Se făcea că şapte spice de grîu grase şi frumoase au crescut pe acelaş pai.

⁵He slept and dreamed a second time: and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, healthy and good.

⁶Şi după ele au răsărit alte şapte spice slabe şi arse de vîntul de răsărit.

⁶Behold, seven heads of grain, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.

⁷Spicele slabe au înghiţit pe cele şapte spice grase şi pline. Şi Faraon s'a trezit. Iată visul.

⁷The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy and full ears. Pharaoh awoke, and behold, it was a dream.

⁸Dimineaţa, Faraon s'a turburat, şi a trimes să cheme pe toţi magii şi pe toţi înţelepţii Egiptului. Le -a istorisit visurile lui. Dar nimeni n'a putut să le tîlmăcească lui Faraon.

⁸It happened in the morning that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all of Egypt’s magicians and wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them to Pharaoh.

⁹Atunci mai marele paharnicilor a luat cuvîntul, şi a zis lui Faraon: ,,Mi-aduc aminte astăzi de greşala mea.

⁹Then the chief cupbearer spoke to Pharaoh, saying, “I remember my faults today.

¹⁰Faraon se mîniase pe slujitorii lui; şi mă aruncase în temniţă, în casa căpeteniei străjerilor, pe mine şi pe mai marele pitarilor.

¹⁰Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, me and the chief baker.

¹¹Amîndoi am visat cîte un vis în aceeaş noapte; şi anume, fiecare din noi a visat un vis, care a primit o tîlmăcire deosebită.

¹¹We dreamed a dream in one night, I and he. We dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.

¹²Era acolo cu noi un tînăr Evreu, rob al căpeteniei străjerilor. I-am istorisit visurile noastre, şi el ni le -a tîlmăcit, şi ne -a spus întocmai ce înseamnă visul fiecăruia.

¹²There was with us there a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams. To each man according to his dream he interpreted.

¹³Lucrurile s'au întîmplat întocmai după tîlmăcirea pe care ne -o dăduse el. Pe mine Faraon m'a pus iarăş în slujba mea, iar pe mai marele pitarilor l -a spînzurat.``

¹³It happened, as he interpreted to us, so it was: he restored me to my office, and he hanged him.”

¹⁴Faraon a trimes să cheme pe Iosif. L-au scos în grabă din temniţă. Iosif s'a ras, şi -a schimbat hainele, şi s'a dus la Faraon.

¹⁴Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. He shaved himself, changed his clothing, and came in to Pharaoh.

¹⁵Faraon a zis lui Iosif: ,,Am visat un vis. Nimeni nu l -a putut tîlmăci; şi am aflat că tu tîlmăceşti un vis, îndată dupăce l-ai auzit.``

¹⁵Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”

¹⁶Iosif a răspuns lui Faraon: ,,Nu eu! Dumnezeu este Acela care va da un răspuns prielnic lui Faraon!``

¹⁶Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It isn’t in me. God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”

¹⁷Faraon a început să istorisească atunci lui Iosif: ,,În visul meu, se făcea că stăteam pe malul rîului.

¹⁷Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, “In my dream, behold, I stood on the brink of the river:

¹⁸Şi deodată şapte vaci grase la trup şi frumoase la chip s'au suit din rîu, şi au început să pască prin mlaştini.

¹⁸and behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, fat and sleek. They fed in the marsh grass,

¹⁹După ele s'au suit alte şapte vaci, slabe, foarte urîte la chip, şi sfrijite: n'am mai văzut altele aşa de urîte în toată ţara Egiptului.

¹⁹and behold, seven other cattle came up after them, poor and very ugly and thin, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for ugliness.

²⁰Vacile cele sfrijite şi slabe au mîncat pe cele şapte vaci dintîi, cari erau grase.

²⁰The thin and ugly cattle ate up the first seven fat cattle,

²¹Le-au înghiţit, fără să se poată cunoaşte că intraseră în pîntecele lor; ba încă înfăţişarea lor era tot aşa de urîtă ca mai înainte. Şi m'am deşteptat.

²¹and when they had eaten them up, it couldn’t be known that they had eaten them, but they were still ugly, as at the beginning. So I awoke.

²²Am mai văzut în vis şapte spice pline şi frumoase, cari creşteau pe acelaş pai.

²²I saw in my dream, and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, full and good:

²³Şi după ele au răsărit şapte spice goale, slabe, arse de vîntul de răsărit.

²³and behold, seven heads of grain, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.

²⁴Spicele slabe au înghiţit pe cele şapte spice frumoase. Am spus aceste lucruri magilor, dar nimeni nu mi le -a putut tîlmăci.``

²⁴The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads of grain. I told it to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me.”

²⁵Iosif a zis lui Faraon: ,,Ce a visat Faraon însemnează un singur lucru: Dumnezeu a arătat mai dinainte lui Faraon ce are să facă.

²⁵Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dream of Pharaoh is one. What God is about to do he has declared to Pharaoh.

²⁶Cele şapte vaci frumoase înseamnă şapte ani; şi cele şapte spice frumoase înseamnă şapte ani: este un singur vis.

²⁶The seven good cattle are seven years; and the seven good heads of grain are seven years. The dream is one.

²⁷Cele şapte vaci sfrijite şi urîte, cari se suiau după cele dintîi, înseamnă şapte ani; şi cele şapte spice goale, arse de vîntul de răsărit, vor fi şapte ani de foamete.

²⁷The seven thin and ugly cattle that came up after them are seven years, and also the seven empty heads of grain blasted with the east wind; they will be seven years of famine.

²⁸Astfel, după cum am spus lui Faraon, Dumnezeu a arătat lui Faraon, ce are să facă.

²⁸That is the thing which I spoke to Pharaoh. What God is about to do he has shown to Pharaoh.

²⁹Iată, vor fi şapte ani de mare belşug în toată ţara Egiptului.

²⁹Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt.

³⁰După ei vor veni şapte ani de foamete, aşa că se va uita tot belşugul acesta în ţara Egiptului, şi foametea va topi ţara.

³⁰There will arise after them seven years of famine, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt. The famine will consume the land,

³¹Foametea aceasta care va urma va fi aşa de mare că nu se va mai cunoaşte belşugul în ţară.

³¹and the plenty will not be known in the land by reason of that famine which follows; for it will be very grievous.

³²Cît priveşte faptul că Faraon a visat visul de două ori, înseamnă că lucrul este hotărît din partea lui Dumnezeu, şi că Dumnezeu se va grăbi să -l aducă la îndeplinire.

³²The dream was doubled to Pharaoh, because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.

³³Acum, Faraon să aleagă un om priceput şi înţelept, şi să -l pună în fruntea ţării Egiptului.

³³“Now therefore let Pharaoh look for a discreet and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.

³⁴Faraon să pună prefecţi în ţară, ca să ridice o cincime din roadele Egiptului în timpul celor şapte ani de belşug.

³⁴Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt’s produce in the seven plenteous years.

³⁵Să se strîngă toate bucatele din aceşti ani buni cari au să vină; să se facă, la îndemîna lui Faraon, grămezi de grîu, provizii în cetăţi, şi să le păzească.

³⁵Let them gather all the food of these good years that come, and lay up grain under the hand of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it.

³⁶Bucatele acestea vor fi provizia ţării, pentru cei şapte ani de foamete, cari vor veni în ţara Egiptului, pentruca ţara să nu fie prăpădită de foamete.``

³⁶The food will be for a store to the land against the seven years of famine, which will be in the land of Egypt; that the land not perish through the famine.”

³⁷Cuvintele acestea au plăcut lui Faraon şi tuturor slujitorilor lui.

³⁷The thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.

³⁸Şi Faraon a zis slujitorilor săi: ,,Am putea noi oare să găsim un om ca acesta, care să aibă în el Duhul lui Dumnezeu?``

³⁸Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?”

³⁹Şi Faraon a zis lui Iosif: ,,Fiindcă Dumnezeu ţi -a făcut cunoscut toate aceste lucruri, nu este nimeni care să fie atît de priceput şi atît de înţelept ca tine.

³⁹Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Because God has shown you all of this, there is none so discreet and wise as you.

⁴⁰Te pun mai mare peste casa mea, şi tot poporul meu va asculta de poruncile tale. Numai scaunul meu de domnie mă va ridica mai pe sus de tine.``

⁴⁰You shall be over my house, and according to your word will all my people be ruled. Only in the throne I will be greater than you.”

⁴¹Faraon a zis lui Iosif: ,,Uite, îţi dau stăpînire peste toată ţara Egiptului.``

⁴¹Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Behold, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”

⁴²Faraon şi -a scos inelul din deget, şi l -a pus în degetul lui Iosif; l -a îmbrăcat cu haine de in subţire, şi i -a pus un lanţ de aur la gît.

⁴²Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in robes of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck,

⁴³L -a suit în carul care venea după al lui, şi strigau înaintea lui: ,,În genunchi!`` Astfel i -a dat Faraon stăpînire peste toată ţara Egiptului.

⁴³and he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had. They cried before him, “Bow the knee!” He set him over all the land of Egypt.

⁴⁴Şi a mai zis lui Iosif: ,,Eu sînt Faraon! Dar fără tine nimeni nu va ridica mîna nici piciorul în toată ţara Egiptului.``

⁴⁴Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without you shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.”

⁴⁵Faraon a pus lui Iosif numele: Ţafnat-Paeneah (Descoperitor de taine), şi i -a dat de nevastă pe Asnat, fata lui Poti-Fera, preotul lui On. Şi Iosif a pornit să cerceteze ţara Egiptului.

⁴⁵Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphenath-Paneah; and he gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On as a wife. Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.

⁴⁶Iosif era în vîrstă de treizeci de ani cînd s'a înfăţişat înaintea lui Faraon, împăratul Egiptului, şi a plecat de la Faraon şi a străbătut toată ţara Egiptului.

⁴⁶Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

⁴⁷În timpul celor şapte ani de rod, pămîntul a dat bucate din belşug.

⁴⁷In the seven plenteous years the earth produced abundantly.

⁴⁸Iosif a strîns toate bucatele din aceşti şapte ani de belşug în ţara Egiptului. A făcut provizii în cetăţi, punînd în fiecare cetate bucatele de pe cîmpul de primprejur.

⁴⁸He gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was around every city, he laid up in the same.

⁴⁹Iosif a strîns grîu, ca nisipul mării, atît de mult, că au încetat să -l mai măsoare, pentru că era fără măsură.

⁴⁹Joseph laid up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he stopped counting, for it was without number.

⁵⁰Înaintea anilor de foamete, i s'au născut lui Iosif doi fii, pe care i -a născut Asnat, fata lui Poti-Fera, preotul lui On.

⁵⁰To Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him.

⁵¹Iosif a pus întîiului născut numele Manase (Uitare); ,,căci``, a zis el, ,,Dumnezeu m'a făcut să uit toate necazurile mele şi toată casa tatălui meu.``

⁵¹Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, “Manasseh” sounds like the Hebrew for “forget.” “For,” he said, “God has made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.”

⁵²Şi celui de al doilea i -a pus numele Efraim (Rodire); ,,căci``, a zis el, ,,Dumnezeu m'a făcut roditor în ţara întristării mele.``

⁵²The name of the second, he called Ephraim “Ephraim” sounds like the Hebrew for “twice fruitful.” : “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”

⁵³Cei şapte ani de belşug cari au fost în ţara Egiptului, au trecut.

⁵³The seven years of plenty, that were in the land of Egypt, came to an end.

⁵⁴Şi au început să vină cei şapte ani de foamete, aşa cum vestise Iosif. În toată ţările era foamete; dar în toată ţara Egiptului era pîne.

⁵⁴The seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.

⁵⁵Cînd a flămînzit, în sfîrşit, toată ţara Egiptului, poporul a strigat la Faraon să -i dea pîne. Faraon a spus tuturor Egiptenilor: ,,Duceţi-vă la Iosif, şi faceţi ce vă va spune el.``

⁵⁵When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph. What he says to you, do.”

⁵⁶Foametea bîntuia în toată ţara. Iosif a deschis toate locurile cu provizii, şi a vîndut grîu Egiptenilor. Foametea creştea din ce în ce mai mult în ţara Egiptului.

⁵⁶The famine was over all the surface of the earth. Joseph opened all the store houses, and sold to the Egyptians. The famine was severe in the land of Egypt.

⁵⁷Şi din toate ţările venea lumea în Egipt, ca să cumpere grîu dela Iosif; căci în toate ţările era foamete mare.

⁵⁷All countries came into Egypt, to Joseph, to buy grain, because the famine was severe in all the earth.
