¹Proorocie asupra pustiei mării. Cum înaintează vijelia dela miazăzi, aşa vine el din pustie, din ţara înfricoşată.

²O vedenie grozavă mi s'a descoperit. Asupritorul asupreşte, pustiitorul pustieşte. -,,Suie-te, Elamule! Împresoară, Medio! Căci fac să înceteze toate oftările lor, -zice Domnul.``

²A grievous vision is declared to me. The treacherous man deals treacherously, and the destroyer destroys. Go up, Elam; attack! I have stopped all of Media’s sighing.

³De aceea mi s'a umplut inima de nelinişte, m'apucă durerile, ca durerile unei femei cînd naşte. Zvîrcolirile nu mă lasă s'aud, tremurul mă împedecă să văd.

³Therefore my thighs are filled with anguish. Pains have taken hold on me, like the pains of a woman in labor. I am in so much pain that I can’t hear. I so am dismayed that I can’t see.

⁴Îmi bate inima cu putere, m'apucă groaza; noaptea plăcerilor mele ajunge o noapte de spaimă.

⁴My heart flutters. Horror has frightened me. The twilight that I desired has been turned into trembling for me.

⁵Ei pun masa, straja veghează, şi ei mănîncă, beau... Dar deodată se aude strigînd: ,,În picioare, voivozi! Ungeţi scutul!``

⁵They prepare the table. They set the watch. They eat. They drink. Rise up, you princes, oil the shield!

⁶Căci aşa mi -a vorbit Domnul: ,,Du-te şi pune un străjer, ca să dea de veste despre ce va vedea.`` -

⁶For the Lord said to me, “Go, set a watchman. Let him declare what he sees.

⁷El a văzut călărime, călăreţi doi cîte doi, călăreţi pe măgari, călăreţi pe cămile; şi asculta cu luare aminte, cu cea mai mare băgare de seamă.

⁷When he sees a troop, horsemen in pairs, a troop of donkeys, a troop of camels, he shall listen diligently with great attentiveness.”

⁸Apoi a strigat, ca un leu: ,,Doamne, am stat mereu în turnul meu de pază, şi stam de strajă în toate nopţile.

⁸He cried like a lion: “Lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and every night I stay at my post.

⁹Şi iată că a venit călărime şi călăreţi doi cîte doi.`` Apoi a luat iarăş cuvîntul, şi a zis: ,,A căzut, a căzut Babilonul, şi toate icoanele dumnezeilor lui sînt sfărîmate la pămînt!``

⁹Behold, here comes a troop of men, horsemen in pairs.” He answered, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the engraved images of her gods are broken to the ground.

¹⁰O, poporul meu, care ai fost stropşit ca boabele de grîu din aria mea, ce am auzit dela Domnul oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel, aceea vă vestesc.

¹⁰You are my threshing, and the grain of my floor!” That which I have heard from Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, I have declared to you.

¹¹Proorocie asupra Dumei. Mi se strigă din Seir: ,,Străjerule, cît mai este din noapte?`` ,,Străjerule, mai este mult din noapte?``

¹¹The burden of Dumah. One calls to me out of Seir, “Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?”

¹²Străjerul răspunde: ,,Vine dimineaţa, şi este tot noapte. Dacă vreţi să întrebaţi, întrebaţi; întoarceţi-vă, şi veniţi iarăş.``

¹²The watchman said, “The morning comes, and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire. Come back again.”

¹³Proorocie asupra Arabiei. Veţi petrece noaptea în tufele Arabiei, cete de negustori din Dedan!

¹³The burden on Arabia. In the forest in Arabia you will lodge, you caravans of Dedanites.

¹⁴Duceţi apă celor ce le este sete; locuitorii ţării Tema duceţi pîne fugarilor!

¹⁵Căci ei fug dinaintea săbiilor, dinaintea săbiei scoase din teacă, dinaintea arcului încordat, şi dinaintea unei lupte înverşunate.

¹⁵For they fled away from the swords, from the drawn sword, from the bent bow, and from the heat of battle.

¹⁶Căci aşa mi -a vorbit Domnul: ,,Încă un an, ca anii unui simbriaş, şi s'a isprăvit cu toată slava Chedarului.

¹⁶For the Lord said to me, “Within a year, as a worker bound by contract would count it, all the glory of Kedar will fail,

¹⁷Nu va mai rămînea decît un mic număr din vitejii arcaşi, fii ai Chedarului, căci Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, a spus -o.

¹⁷and the residue of the number of the archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, will be few; for Yahweh, the God of Israel, has spoken it.”
