¹,,Ascultaţi Cuvîntul pe care vi -l vorbeşte Domnul, casa lui Israel!

¹Hear the word which Yahweh speaks to you, house of Israel!

²,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ,Nu vă luaţi după felul de vieţuire al neamurilor, şi nu vă temeţi de semnele cerului, pentrucă neamurile se tem de ele.

²Thus says Yahweh, “Don’t learn the way of the nations, and don’t be dismayed at the signs of the sky; for the nations are dismayed at them.

³Căci obiceiurile popoarelor sînt deşerte. Taie un lemn din pădure; mîna meşterului îl lucrează cu securea;

³For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the axe.

⁴îl împodobeşte cu argint şi aur, şi ei îl ţintuiesc cu cuie şi ciocane, ca să nu se clatine.

⁴They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it not move.

⁵Dumnezeii aceştia sînt ca o sperietoare de păsări într'un ogor de castraveţi1 (Sau: ca un stîlp tras la strung), şi nu vorbesc; sînt duşi de alţii, pentrucă nu pot să meargă.`` ,,Nu vă temeţi de ei, căci nu pot să facă niciun rău, şi nu sînt în stare să facă niciun bine.``

⁵They are like a palm tree, of turned work, and don’t speak: they must be carried, because they can’t go. Don’t be afraid of them; for they can’t do evil, neither is it in them to do good.”

⁶,,Niciunul nu este ca Tine, Doamne! Mare eşti Tu, şi mare este Numele Tău prin puterea Ta.

⁶There is none like you, Yahweh; you are great, and your name is great in might.

⁷Cine să nu se teamă de Tine, Împărate al neamurilor? Ţie se cuvine teama; căci între toţi înţelepţii neamurilor şi în toate împărăţiile lor, niciunul nu este ca Tine.

⁷Who should not fear you, King of the nations? For it appertains to you; because among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royal estate, there is none like you.

⁸Toţi laolaltă, sînt proşti şi fără minte, ştiinţa idolilor nu este decît deşertăciune, e lemn!

⁸But they are together brutish and foolish: the instruction of idols! it is but a stock.

⁹Ei aduc din Tarsis foiţe de argint şi aur din Ufaz; meşterul şi mîna argintarului le pun în lucru; hainele acestor dumnezei sînt de materii văpsite în albastru şi în purpură, toate sînt lucrate de meşteri iscusiţi. -

⁹There is silver beaten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the artificer and of the hands of the goldsmith; blue and purple for their clothing; they are all the work of skillful men.

¹⁰Dar Domnul este Dumnezeu cu adevărat, este un Dumnezeu viu şi un Împărat vecinic. Pămîntul tremură de mînia Lui, şi neamurile nu pot să sufere urgia lui.``

¹⁰But Yahweh is the true God; he is the living God, and an everlasting King: at his wrath the earth trembles, and the nations are not able to withstand his indignation.

¹¹,,Aşa să le vorbiţi: ,Dumnezeii, cari n'au făcut nici cerurile, nici pămîntul, vor pieri depe pămînt şi de supt ceruri.

¹¹You shall say this to them: The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these shall perish from the earth, and from under the heavens.

¹²Dar El a făcut pămîntul prin puterea Lui, a întemeiat lumea prin înţelepciunea Lui, a întins cerurile prin priceperea Lui.

¹²He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding has he stretched out the heavens:

¹³La tunetul Lui, urlă apele în ceruri; El ridică norii dela marginile pămîntului, dă naştere fulgerelor şi ploii, şi scoate vîntul din cămările Lui.

¹³when he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightnings for the rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasuries.

¹⁴Atunci se arată omul cît este de prost cu ştiinţa lui, şi orice argintar rămîne de ruşine cu chipul lui cioplit; căci idolii lui nu sînt decît minciună, şi nu este nicio suflare în ei;

¹⁴Every man has become brutish and without knowledge; every goldsmith is disappointed by his engraved image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

¹⁵sînt un lucru de nimic, o lucrare înşelătoare, şi vor pieri, cînd va veni pedeapsa.

¹⁵They are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

¹⁶Dar Cel ce este partea lui Iacov, nu este ca ei; căci El a întocmit totul, şi Israel este seminţia moştenirii Lui: Domnul oştirilor este Numele Lui.``

¹⁶The portion of Jacob is not like these; for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance: Yahweh of Armies is his name.

¹⁷,,Ia din ţară legătura cu ce este al tău, tu, care eşti în strîmtorare!``

¹⁷Gather up your wares out of the land, you who live under siege.

¹⁸,,Căci aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ,Iată, de data aceasta, voi arunca departe pe locuitorii ţării. Îi voi strînge de aproape, ca să simtă.`` -

¹⁸For thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this time, and will distress them, that they may feel it.

¹⁹,,Vai de mine! Sînt zdrobită! Mă doare rana!`` ,,Dar eu zic: ,O nenorocire a dat peste mine şi o voi suferi!

¹⁹Woe is me because of my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this is my grief, and I must bear it.

²⁰Cortul îmi este dărîmat, toate funiile îmi sînt rupte, fiii mei m'au părăsit, nu mai sînt; n'am pe nimeni, care să-mi întindă cortul din nou, sau să-mi ridice pînzele!

²⁰My tent is destroyed, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth from me, and they are no more: there is none to spread my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.

²¹Păstorii s'au prostit, n'au căutat pe Domnul; pentru aceea n'au propăşit, şi li se risipesc toate turmele.

²¹For the shepherds are become brutish, and have not inquired of Yahweh: therefore they have not prospered, and all their flocks are scattered.

²²Iată, se aude un vuiet! O mare zarvă vine de la miazănoapte să prefacă cetăţile lui Iuda într'un pustiu, într'o vizuină de şacali. -

²²The voice of news, behold, it comes, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling place of jackals.

²³,,Ştiu, Doamne, că soarta omului nu este în puterea lui; nici nu stă în puterea omului, cînd umblă, să-şi îndrepte paşii spre ţintă.

²³Yahweh, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

²⁴Pedepseşte-mă, Doamne, dar cu măsură, şi nu în mînia Ta, ca să nu mă nimiceşti!

²⁴Yahweh, correct me, but in measure: not in your anger, lest you bring me to nothing.

²⁵Varsă-Ţi urgia peste neamurile cari nu Te cunosc, şi peste popoarele cari nu cheamă Numele Tău! Căci mănîncă pe Iacov, îl înghit, îl topesc, şi -i pustiesc locuinţa.``

²⁵Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you, and on the families that don’t call on your name: for they have devoured Jacob, yes, they have devoured him and consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.
