¹,,Tu eşti prea drept, Doamne, ca să mă cert cu Tine; vreau totuş să Te întreb asupra orînduirilor Tale. Pentruce propăşeşte calea celor răi, şi toţi mişeii trăiesc în pace?

¹You are righteous, Yahweh, when I contend with you; yet I would reason the cause with you: why does the way of the wicked prosper? why are all they at ease who deal very treacherously?

²I-ai sădit, au prins rădăcină, cresc, fac rod. Ce -i drept, eşti aproape de gura lor, dar departe de inima lor!

²You have planted them, yes, they have taken root; they grow, yes, they bring forth fruit: you are near in their mouth, and far from their heart.

³Totuş, Tu, Doamne, mă cunoşti, mă vezi, îmi cercetezi inima şi vezi că este cu Tine. Ia -i ca pe nişte oi, cari trebuiesc tăiate, şi pregăteşte -i pentru ziua măcelului!

³But you, Yahweh, know me; you see me, and try my heart toward you: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

⁴Pînă cînd să se jălească ţara, şi să se usuce iarba de pe toate cîmpiile? Pier vitele şi păsările din pricina răutăţii locuitorilor. Căci ei zic: ,El, (Ieremia) n'are să ne vadă sfîrşitul!`` -

⁴How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of the whole country wither? for the wickedness of those who dwell therein, the animals are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our latter end.

⁵,,Dacă alergînd cu cei ce aleargă pe picioare, ei te obosesc, cum vei putea să te iei la întrecere cu nişte cai? Şi dacă nu te crezi la adăpost decît într'o ţară liniştită, ce vei face pe malurile îngîmfate ale Iordanului?

⁵If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? and though in a land of peace you are secure, yet how will you do in the pride of the Jordan?

⁶Căci chiar fraţii tăi şi casa tatălui tău te vînd, ei înşişi strigă în gura mare după tine. Nu -i crede cînd îţi vor spune vorbe prietenoase.``

⁶For even your brothers, and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you; even they have cried aloud after you: don’t believe them, though they speak beautiful words to you.

⁷,,Mi-am părăsit casa, şi Mi-am lăsat moştenirea, Mi-am dat pe iubita Mea în mîinile vrăjmaşilor ei.

⁷I have forsaken my house, I have cast off my heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.

⁸Moştenirea Mea a ajuns pentru Mine ca un leu în pădure, a mugit împotriva Mea; şi de aceea o urăsc.

⁸My heritage has become to me as a lion in the forest: she has uttered her voice against me; therefore I have hated her.

⁹A ajuns oare moştenirea Mea pentru Mine o pasăre de pradă pestriţă, în jurul căreia se strîng păsările de pradă?`` ,,Duceţi-vă, şi strîngeţi toate fiarele cîmpului, şi aduceţi-le ca s'o mănînce!``

⁹Is my heritage to me as a speckled bird of prey? are the birds of prey against her all around? Go, assemble all the animals of the field, bring them to devour.

¹⁰,,Un mare număr de păstori îmi pustiesc via, îmi calcă ogorul în picioare; ogorul meu cel plăcut îl prefac într'un pustiu părăsit.

¹⁰Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

¹¹Îl pustiesc, şi el stă trist şi pustiit înaintea mea. Toată ţara este pustiită, căci nimeni nu ia seama la ea.

¹¹They have made it a desolation; it mourns to me, being desolate; the whole land is made desolate, because no man lays it to heart.

¹²Peste toate înălţimile pustiei vin pustiitori, căci sabia Domnului mănîncă ţara dela un capăt la altul; şi nimeni nu -i lăsat în pace.

¹²Destroyers have come on all the bare heights in the wilderness; for the sword of Yahweh devours from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh has peace.

¹³Au semănat grîu, şi seceră spini, s'au ostenit fără folos.`` ,,Să vă fie ruşine de ce culegeţi, în urma mîniei aprinse a Domnului!``

¹³They have sown wheat, and have reaped thorns; they have put themselves to pain, and profit nothing: and you shall be ashamed of your fruits, because of the fierce anger of Yahweh.

¹⁴,,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul despre toţi vecinii mei cei răi, cari se ating de moştenirea pe care am dat -o poporului Meu Israel: ,Iată, îi voi smulge din ţara lor, şi voi smulge casa lui Iuda din mijlocul lor.

¹⁴Thus says Yahweh against all my evil neighbors, who touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit: behold, I will pluck them up from off their land, and will pluck up the house of Judah from among them.

¹⁵Dar după ce -i voi smulge, voi avea iarăş milă de ei, şi -i voi aduce înapoi pe fiecare în moştenirea lui, şi pe fiecare în ţara lui.

¹⁵It shall happen, after that I have plucked them up, I will return and have compassion on them; and I will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.

¹⁶Şi dacă vor învăţa căile poporului Meu, dacă vor jura pe Numele Meu, zicînd: ,Viu este Domnul!` cum au învăţat pe poporul Meu să jure pe Baal, atunci vor fi fericiţi în mijlocul poporului Meu.

¹⁶It shall happen, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, As Yahweh lives; even as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built up in the midst of my people.

¹⁷Dar dacă nu vor asculta nimic, voi nimici cu desăvîrşire pe un astfel de popor, îl voi nimici şi îl voi pierde, zice Domnul.``

¹⁷But if they will not hear, then will I pluck up that nation, plucking up and destroying it, says Yahweh.
