¹,,Domnul mi -a zis: ,Chiar dacă Moise şi Samuel s'ar înfăţişa înaintea Mea, tot n'aş fi binevoitor faţă de poporul acesta. Izgoneşte -l dinaintea Mea, ducă-se!

¹Then Yahweh said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.

²Şi dacă-ţi vor zice: ,Unde să ne ducem?` să le răspunzi: ,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ,La moarte cei sortiţi la moarte, la sabie cei sortiţi săbiei, la foamete cei sortiţi foametei, la robie, cei sortiţi robiei!

²It shall happen, when they tell you, Where shall we go forth? Then you shall tell them, Thus says Yahweh: Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for captivity, to captivity.

³Căci voi trimete împotriva lor patru feluri de nenorociri, zice Domnul: sabia, ca să -i ucidă, cînii ca să -i sfîşie, păsările cerului şi fiarele pămîntului, ca să -i mănînce şi să -i nimicească.

³I will appoint over them four kinds, says Yahweh: the sword to kill, and the dogs to tear, and the birds of the sky, and the animals of the earth, to devour and to destroy.

⁴Îi voi face de pomină pentru toate împărăţiile pămîntului, din pricina lui Manase, fiul lui Ezechia, împăratul lui Iuda, şi pentru tot ce a făcut el în Ieruslim.

⁴I will cause them to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh, the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.

⁵Căci cine să aibă milă de tine, Ierusalime, cine să te plîngă? Cine să meargă să te întrebe de sănătate?``

⁵For who will have pity on you, Jerusalem? or who will bemoan you? or who will turn aside to ask of your welfare?

⁶,,M'ai părăsit, zice Domnul, ai dat înapoi; de aceea Îmi întind mîna împotriva ta şi te nimicesc: sînt sătul de milă.

⁶You have rejected me, says Yahweh, you have gone backward: therefore have I stretched out my hand against you, and destroyed you; I am weary with repenting.

⁷Îi vîntur cu lopata, la porţile ţării; îi lipsesc de copii, pierd pe poporul Meu, căci nu s'au abătut dela căile lor.

⁷I have winnowed them with a fan in the gates of the land; I have bereaved them of children, I have destroyed my people; they didn’t return from their ways.

⁸Văduvele lor sînt mai multe de cît boabele de nisip din mare; peste mama tînărului, aduc un pustiitor ziua nameaza mare; fac să cadă deodată peste ea necazul şi groaza.

⁸Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas; I have brought on them against the mother of the young men a destroyer at noonday: I have caused anguish and terrors to fall on her suddenly.

⁹Cea care născuse şapte fii tînjeşte, îşi dă sufletul; soarele ei apune cînd este încă ziuă: este roşie, acoperită de ruşine. Pe cei ce mai rămîn, îi dau pradă săbiei înaintea vrăjmaşilor lor, zice Domnul.``

⁹She who has borne seven languishes; she has given up the spirit; her sun is gone down while it was yet day; she has been disappointed and confounded: and their residue will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, says Yahweh.

¹⁰,,Vai de mine, mamă, că m'ai născut, pe mine, om de ceartă şi de pricină pentru toată ţara! Nu iau cu împrumut, nici nu dau cu împrumut, şi totuş toţi mă blastămă!

¹⁰Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent, neither have men lent to me; yet everyone of them curses me.

¹¹Domnul a răspuns: ,,Da, vei avea un viitor fericit; da, voi sili pe vrăjmaş să te roage, la vreme de nenorocire şi la vreme de necaz!

¹¹Yahweh said, Most certainly I will strengthen you for good; most certainly I will cause the enemy to make supplication to you in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.

¹²Poate ferul să frîngă ferul dela miazănoapte şi arama?

¹²Can one break iron, even iron from the north, and brass?

¹³Averile şi comorile tale le voi da pradă fără despăgubire, din pricina tuturor păcatelor tale, pe tot ţinutul tău.

¹³Your substance and your treasures will I give for a spoil without price, and that for all your sins, even in all your borders.

¹⁴Te voi duce rob la vrăjmaşul tău într'o ţară, pe care n'o cunoşti, căci focul mîniei Mele s'a aprins şi arde peste voi!``

¹⁴I will make them to pass with your enemies into a land which you don’t know; for a fire is kindled in my anger, which shall burn on you.

¹⁵,,Tu ştii tot, Doamne! Adu-ţi aminte de mine, nu mă uita, răzbună-mă pe prigonitorii mei! Nu mă lua, după îndelunga Ta răbdare. Gîndeşte-Te că sufăr ocara din pricina Ta!

¹⁵Yahweh, you know; remember me, and visit me, and avenge me of my persecutors; don’t take me away in your longsuffering: know that for your sake I have suffered reproach.

¹⁶Cînd am primit cuvintele Tale, le-am înghiţit; cuvintele Tale au fost bucuria şi veselia inimii mele, căci după Numele Tău sînt numit, Doamne, Dumnezeul oştirilor!

¹⁶Your words were found, and I ate them; and your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart: for I am called by your name, Yahweh, God of Armies.

¹⁷N'am şezut în adunarea celor ce petrec, ca să mă veselesc cu ei: de frica puterii Tale, am stat singur la o parte, căci mă umplusei de mînie.

¹⁷I didn’t sit in the assembly of those who make merry, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of your hand; for you have filled me with indignation.

¹⁸Pentruce nu mai conteneşte suferinţa mea? Pentruce mă ustură rana şi nu vrea să se vindece? Să fii Tu pentru mine ca un izvor înşelător, ca o apă, care seacă?``

¹⁸Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Will you indeed be to me as a deceitful brook, as waters that fail?

¹⁹,,Deaceea aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ,Dacă te vei lipi iarăş de Mine, îţi voi răspunde iarăş, şi vei sta înaintea Mea; dacă vei despărţi ce este de preţ de ce este fără preţ, vei fi ca gura Mea. Ei să se întoarcă la tine, nu tu să te întorci la ei!

¹⁹Therefore thus says Yahweh, If you return, then will I bring you again, that you may stand before me; and if you take forth the precious from the vile, you shall be as my mouth: they shall return to you, but you shall not return to them.

²⁰Te voi face pentru poporul acesta ca un zid tare de aramă; ei se vor război cu tine, dar nu te vor birui; căci Eu voi fi cu tine, ca să te scap şi să te izbăvesc, zice Domnul.``

²⁰I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall; and they shall fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you; for I am with you to save you and to deliver you, says Yahweh.

²¹,,Te voi izbăvi din mîna celor răi, şi te voi scăpa din mîna asupritorilor.``

²¹I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem you out of the hand of the terrible.
