¹În luna a şaptea, Ismael, fiul lui Netania, fiul lui Elişama, din neamul împăratului, a venit cu mai marii împăratului şi cu zece oameni la Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahicam, la Miţpa. Şi au mîncat împreună acolo, la Miţpa.

¹Now it happened in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal and one of the chief officers of the king, and ten men with him, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they ate bread together in Mizpah.

²Atunci Ismael, fiul lui Netania, s'a sculat cu cei zece oameni de cari era însoţit, şi au lovit cu sabia pe Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahicam, fiul lui Şafan, şi au omorît astfel pe acela, pe care îl pusese împăratul Babilonului dregător peste ţară.

²Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men who were with him, and struck Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.

³Ismael a mai omorît pe toţi Iudeii, cari erau cu Ghedalia la Miţpa, şi pe Haldeii, cari se aflau acolo, oameni de război.

³Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with him, with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who were found there, the men of war.

⁴A doua zi, după omorîrea lui Ghedalia, pe cînd nimeni nu ştia nimic,

⁴It happened the second day after he had killed Gedaliah, and no man knew it,

⁵au venit din Sihem, din Silo şi din Samaria, optzeci de oameni, cu barba rasă şi cu haine sfîşiate, cari îşi făcuseră tăieturi în piele; aveau daruri de mîncare şi tămîie, ca să le aducă la Casa Domnului.

⁵that there came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even eighty men, having their beards shaved and their clothes torn, and having cut themselves, with meal offerings and frankincense in their hand, to bring them to the house of Yahweh.

⁶Ismael, fiul lui Netania, le -a ieşit înainte din Miţpa, şi mergea plîngînd. Cînd i -a întîlnit, le -a zis: ,,Veniţi la Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahicam!``

⁶Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and it happened, as he met them, he said to them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.

⁷Şi cînd au ajuns ei în mijlocul cetăţii, Ismael, fiul lui Netania, i -a junghiat şi i -a aruncat în groapă, cu ajutorul oamenilor, cari -l însoţeau.

⁷It was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah killed them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he, and the men who were with him.

⁸Dar s'au găsit printre ei zece oameni cari au zis lui Ismael: ,,Nu ne omorî, căci mai avem merinde ascunse în cîmp: grîu, orz, untdelemn şi miere!`` Atunci el i -a cruţat, şi nu i -a omorît împreună cu fraţii lor.

⁸But ten men were found among those who said to Ishmael, Don’t kill us; for we have stores hidden in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he stopped, and didn’t kill them among their brothers.

⁹Groapa în care a aruncat Ismael toate trupurile moarte ale oamenilor pe cari i -a ucis, afară de Ghedalia, este groapa aceea mare pe care o făcuse împăratul Asa, cînd se temea de Baeşa, împăratul lui Israel; groapa aceasta a umplut -o Ismael, fiul lui Netania, cu cei ucişi.

⁹Now the pit in which Ishmael cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had killed, by the side of Gedaliah (the same was who which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel), Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with those who were killed.

¹⁰Ismael a luat prinşi de război pe toi ceice mai rămăseseră la Miţpa din popor, pe fiicele împăratului şi pe toţi aceia din popor, cari locuiau acolo, şi pe cari -i încredinţase Nebuzaradan, căpetenia străjerilor, lui Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahicam; Ismael fiul lui Netania, i -a luat prinşi de război, şi a plecat ca să treacă la Amoniţi.

¹⁰Then Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people who were in Mizpah, even the king’s daughters, and all the people who remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam; Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of Ammon.

¹¹Dar Iohanan, fiul lui Careah, şi toate căpeteniile oştirilor, cari erau cu el, au fost înştiinţaţi de tot răul, pe care -l făcuse Ismael, fiul lui Netania.

¹¹But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,

¹²Au luat pe toţi oamenii, şi au pornit să bată pe Ismael, fiul lui Netania, pe care l-au găsit lîngă apele cele mari ale Gabaonului.

¹²then they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.

¹³Cînd a văzut tot poporul, care era cu Ismael, pe Iohanan, fiul lui Careah, şi pe toate căpeteniile oştirilor, cari erau cu el, s'a bucurat;

¹³Now it happened that, when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, then they were glad.

¹⁴şi tot poporul, pe care -l luase Ismael din Miţpa, s'a întors şi a venit de s'a unit cu Iohanan, fiul lui Careah.

¹⁴So all the people who Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.

¹⁵Dar Ismael, fiul lui Netania, a scăpat de Iohanan cu opt oameni, şi s'a dus la Amoniţi.

¹⁵But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the children of Ammon.

¹⁶Iohanan, fiul lui Careah, şi toate căpeteniile oştirilor, cari erau cu el, au luat toată rămăşiţa poporului, pe care l-au izbăvit din mînile lui Ismael, fiul lui Netania, cînd îl ducea din Miţpa, după ce ucisese pe Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahicam. Şi anume pe oamenii de război, pe femei, pe copii, pe famenii-dregători, pe cari i -a adus Iohanan înapoi din Gabaon.

¹⁶Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after that he had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon:

¹⁷Au pornit, şi s'au oprit la hanul lui Chimham lîngă Betleem, ca să plece apoi în Egipt,

¹⁷and they departed, and lived in Geruth Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt,

¹⁸departe de Haldei, de cari se temeau, pentrucă Ismael, fiul lui Netania, ucisese pe Ghedalia, fiul lui Ahicam, pe care -l pusese împăratul Babilonului dregător peste ţară.

¹⁸because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor over the land.
