¹Iată cuvîntul spus lui Ieremia cu privire la toţi Iudeii, cari locuiau în ţara Egiptului, la Migdol, la Tahpanes, la Nof şi în ţara Patros:

¹The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews who lived in the land of Egypt, who lived at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Memphis, and in the country of Pathros, saying,

²,,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ,Aţi văzut toate nenorocirile, pe cari le-am adus asupra Ierusalimului şi asupra tuturor cetăţilor lui Iuda: iată că astăzi ele nu mai sînt decît nişte dărîmături, şi nimeni nu mai locuieşte în ele,

²Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: You have seen all the evil that I have brought on Jerusalem, and on all the cities of Judah; and behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwells therein,

³din pricina răutăţii, cu care au lucrat, ca să Mă mînie, ducîndu-se să tămîieze şi să slujească altor dumnezei, cari nu erau cunoscuţi nici de ei, nici de voi, nici de părinţii voştri.

³because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, to serve other gods, that they didn’t know, neither they, nor you, nor your fathers.

⁴V'am trimes într'una pe toţi slujitorii Mei proorocii, ca să vă spună: ,Nu faceţi aceste urîciuni, pe cari le urăsc.`

⁴However I sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Oh, don’t do this abominable thing that I hate.

⁵Dar ei n'au vrut s'asculte, n'au luat aminte, nu s'au întors dela răutatea lor, şi n'au încetat să aducă tămîie altor dumnezei.

⁵But they didn’t listen, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods.

⁶De aceea s'a vărsat urgia Mea şi a izbucnit mînia Mea, şi în cetăţile lui Iuda şi în uliţele Ierusalimului, cari nu mai sînt decît nişte dărîmături şi un pustiu, cum se vede astăzi.

⁶Therefore my wrath and my anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as it is this day.

⁷,Acum, aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ,Pentru ce vă faceţi voi singuri un rău atît de mare, ca să se nimicească din mijlocul lui Iuda bărbaţi, femei, copii şi prunci, şi să nu mai rămînă nici o rămăşiţă din voi?

⁷Therefore now thus says Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel: Why do you commit great evil against your own souls, to cut off from yourselves man and woman, infant and nursing child out of the midst of Judah, to leave yourselves none remaining;

⁸Pentruce Mă mîniaţi voi prin lucrările mînilor voastre, aducînd tămîie altor dumnezei ai ţării Egiptului, unde aţi venit să locuiţi pentru o vreme, ca să fiţi nimiciţi şi să ajungeţi o pricină de blestem şi de ocară printre toate neamurile pămîntului?

⁸in that you provoke me to anger with the works of your hands, burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have gone to live; that you may be cut off, and that you may be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

⁹Aţi uitat nelegiuirile părinţilor voştri, nelegiuirile împăraţilor lui Iuda, nelegiuirile nevestelor lor, nelegiuirile voastre şi nelegiuirile nevestelor voastre, săvîrşite în ţara lui Iuda şi pe uliţele Ierusalimului?

⁹Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives which they committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?

¹⁰Ei nu s'au smerit nici pînă în ziua de azi, n'au frică, nu urmează Legea Mea şi poruncile Mele, pe cari le-am pus înaintea voastră şi înaintea părinţilor voştri.

¹⁰They are not humbled even to this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.

¹¹,De aceea, aşa vorbeşte Domnul oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ,Iată, Îmi întorc Faţa împotriva voastră, ca să vă fac rău, şi să nimicesc pe tot Iuda.

¹¹Therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, even to cut off all Judah.

¹²Voi lua rămăşiţele lui Iuda, cari şi-au îndreptat faţa ca să meargă în ţara Egiptului, să locuiască acolo pentru o vreme: toţi vor fi nimiciţi, şi vor cădea în ţara Egiptului; vor fi nimiciţi de sabie, de foamete, dela cel mai mic pînă la cel mai mare; vor pieri de sabie şi de foamete; şi vor fi o pricină de afurisenie, de spaimă, de blestem şi de ocară.

¹²I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to live there, and they shall all be consumed; in the land of Egypt shall they fall; they shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine; they shall die, from the least even to the greatest, by the sword and by the famine; and they shall be an object of horror, an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.

¹³Voi pedepsi astfel pe ceice locuiesc în ţara Egiptului, cum am pedepsit Ierusalimul, cu sabie, cu foamete şi cu ciumă.

¹³For I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence;

¹⁴Nu va rămînea şi nu va scăpa niciunul din rămăşiţele lui Iuda, cari au venit să locuiască pentru o vreme în ţara Egiptului, cu gînd să se întoarcă iarăş în ţara lui Iuda, unde doresc să se întoarcă iarăş să se aşeze: nu se vor mai întoarce decît vreo cîţiva, cari vor scăpa!``

¹⁴so that none of the remnant of Judah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to live there, shall escape or be left, to return into the land of Judah, to which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return save such as shall escape.

¹⁵Toţi bărbaţii, cari ştiau că nevestele lor aduceau tămîie altor dumnezei, toate femeile cari se aflau acolo în mare număr, şi tot poporul care locuia în ţara Egiptului, la Patros, au răspuns aşa lui Ieremia:

¹⁵Then all the men who knew that their wives burned incense to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great assembly, even all the people who lived in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,

¹⁶,,Nu te vom asculta în nimic din cele ce ne-ai spus în Numele Domnului.

¹⁶As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of Yahweh, we will not listen to you.

¹⁷Ci voim să facem cum am spus cu gura noastră, şi anume: să aducem tămîie împărătesei cerului, şi să -i turnăm jertfe de băutură, cum am făcut, noi şi părinţii noştri, împăraţii noştri şi căpeteniile noastre, în cetăţile lui Iuda şi în uliţele Ierusalimului. Atunci aveam pîne de ne săturam, eram fericiţi, şi nu treceam prin nici o nenorocire!

¹⁷But we will certainly perform every word that is gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

¹⁸Dar, de cînd am încetat să aducem tămîie împărătesei cerului, şi să -i turnăm jertfe de băutură, am dus lipsă de toate, şi am fost nimiciţi de sabie şi de foamete...``

¹⁸But since we left off burning incense to the queen of the sky, and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.

¹⁹,,De altfel, cînd aducem tămîie împărătesei cerului şi -i turnăm jertfe de băutură, oare fără voia bărbaţilor noştri îi pregătim noi turte ca s'o cinstim făcîndu -i chipul, şi -i aducem jertfe de băutură?``

¹⁹When we burned incense to the queen of the sky, and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?

²⁰Ieremia a zis atunci întregului popor, bărbaţilor, femeilor şi tuturor celor ce -i dăduseră răspunsul acesta:

²⁰Then Jeremiah said to all the people, to the men, and to the women, even to all the people who had given him an answer, saying,

²¹,,Nu Şi -a adus aminte Domnul, şi nu I -a venit Lui în minte tămîia, pe care aţi ars -o în cetăţile lui Iuda şi în uliţele Ierusalimului, voi şi părinţii voştri, împăraţii voştri şi căpeteniile voastre, şi poporul din ţară?

²¹The incense that you burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your princes, and the people of the land, didn’t Yahweh remember them, and didn’t it come into his mind?

²²Domnul n'a putut să mai sufere lucrul acesta, din pricina răutăţii faptelor voastre, din pricina urîciunilor pe cari le-aţi săvîrşit; şi de aceea ţara voastră a ajuns o paragină, un pustiu, o pricină de blestem, cum vedeţi astăzi.

²²so that Yahweh could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which you have committed; therefore your land has become a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is this day.

²³Tocmai pentru că aţi ars tămîie şi aţi păcătuit împotriva Domnului, pentru că n'aţi ascultat glasul Domnului, şi n'aţi păzit Legea, poruncile şi învăţăturile Lui, tocmai pentru aceea vi s'au întîmplat aceste nenorociri, cum se vede astăzi.`` -

²³Because you have burned incense, and because you have sinned against Yahweh, and have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil has happened to you, as it is this day.

²⁴Ieremia a mai zis întregului popor şi tuturor femeilor: ,,Ascultaţi Cuvîntul Domnului, voi toţi cei din Iuda, cari sînteţi în ţara Egiptului!

²⁴Moreover Jeremiah said to all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of Yahweh, all Judah who are in the land of Egypt:

²⁵Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ,Voi şi nevestele voastre aţi mărturisit cu gurile voastre şi aţi împlinit cu mînile voastre ce spuneţi: ,Vrem să împlinim juruinţele pe cari le-am făcut, să aducem tămîie împărătesei cerului, şi să -i turnăm jertfe de băutură!`

²⁵Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, saying, You and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and with your hands have fulfilled it, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to her: establish then your vows, and perform your vows.

²⁶De aceea, acum, dupăce v'aţi împlinit juruinţele, şi v'aţi înfăptuit făgăduinţele, ascultaţi Cuvîntul Domnului, voi toţi cei din Iuda, cari locuiţi în ţara Egiptului! ,Iată, jur pe Numele Meu cel mare, zice Domnul, -că Numele Meu nu va mai fi chemat de gura niciunuia din oamenii lui Iuda, şi în toată ţara Egiptului niciunul nu va zice: ,Viu este Domnul, Dumnezeu!`

²⁶Therefore hear the word of Yahweh, all Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says Yahweh, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, As the Lord Yahweh lives.

²⁷Iată, voi veghea asupra lor ca să le fac rău şi nu bine; şi toţi oamenii lui Iuda, cari sînt în ţara Egiptului, cari sînt în ţara Egiptului, vor fi nimiciţi de sabie şi de foamete pînă vor pieri de tot.

²⁷Behold, I watch over them for evil, and not for good; and all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until they are all gone.

²⁸Aceia, în mic număr, cari vor scăpa de sabie, se vor întoarce din ţara Egiptului în ţara lui Iuda. Dar toată rămăşiţa lui Iuda, toţi cei ce au venit să locuiască în ţara Egiptului, vor vedea dacă se va împlini Cuvîntul Meu sau al lor.`

²⁸Those who escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, few in number; and all the remnant of Judah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to live there, shall know whose word shall stand, mine, or theirs.

²⁹,Şi iată, zice Domnul, un semn, după care veţi cunoaşte că vă voi pedepsi în locul acesta, ca să ştiţi că vorbele Mele se vor împlini peste voi, spre nenorocirea voastră.`

²⁹This shall be the sign to you, says Yahweh, that I will punish you in this place, that you may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:

³⁰Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ,Iată, voi da pe Faraon Hofra, împăratul Egiptului, în mînile vrăjmaşilor lui, în mînile celor ce vor să -l omoare, cum am dat pe Zedechia, împăratul lui Iuda, în mînile lui Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului, vrăjmaşul său, care voia să -l omoare.``

³⁰Thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will give Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of those who seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who was his enemy, and sought his life.
