¹,,Iată cuvîntul rostit de Domnul asupra Babilonului, asupra ţării Haldeilor, prin proorocul Ieremia:

¹The word that Yahweh spoke concerning Babylon, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, by Jeremiah the prophet.

²,Daţi de ştire printre neamuri, daţi de veste şi înălţaţi un steag! Vestiţi, n'ascundeţi nimic! Spuneţi: ,Babilonul este luat! Bel este acoperit de ruşine, Merodac este zdrobit! Idolii lui sînt acoperiţi de ruşine, idolii lui sînt sfărîmaţi!

²Declare among the nations and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and don’t conceal: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is disappointed, Merodach is dismayed; her images are disappointed, her idols are dismayed.

³Căci împotriva lui se suie un neam dela mează-noapte, care -i va preface ţara într'o pustie, şi nu va mai fi locuită: atît oamenii cît şi dobitoacele fug şi se duc.``

³For out of the north there comes up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they are fled, they are gone, both man and animal.

⁴,,În zilele acelea, în vremile acelea, zice Domnul, copiii lui Israel şi copiii lui Iuda se vor întoarce împreună; vor merge plîngînd şi vor căuta pe Domnul, Dumnezeul lor.

⁴In those days, and in that time, says Yahweh, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together; they shall go on their way weeping, and shall seek Yahweh their God.

⁵Vor întreba de drumul Sionului, îşi vor întoarce privirile spre el, şi vor zice: ,Veniţi să ne alipim de Domnul, printr'un legămînt vecinic care să nu fie uitat niciodată!``

⁵They shall inquire concerning Zion with their faces turned toward it, saying, Come, and join yourselves to Yahweh in an everlasting covenant that shall not be forgotten.

⁶,,Poporul Meu era o turmă de oi pierdute; păstorii lor îi rătăceau, îi făceau să cutreiere munţii; treceau de pe munţi pe dealuri, uitîndu-şi staulul.

⁶My people have been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray; they have turned them away on the mountains; they have gone from mountain to hill; they have forgotten their resting place.

⁷Toţi cei ce -i găseau îi mîncau, şi vrăjmaşii lor ziceau: ,Noi nu sîntem vinovaţi, fiindcă au păcătuit împotriva Domnului, Locaşul neprihănirii, împotriva Domnului, Nădejdea părinţilor lor.`

⁷All who found them have devoured them; and their adversaries said, We are not guilty, because they have sinned against Yahweh, the habitation of righteousness, even Yahweh, the hope of their fathers.

⁸,Fugiţi din Babilon, ieşiţi din ţara Haldeilor, şi mergeţi ca nişte ţapi în fruntea turmii!

⁸Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the male goats before the flocks.

⁹Căci iată că voi ridica şi voi aduce împotriva Babilonului o mulţime de neamuri mari din ţara dela miazănoapte; se vor înşirui în şiruri de bătaie împotriva lui, şi vor pune stăpînire pe el; săgeţile lui sînt ca ale unui războinic iscusit, care nu se întoarce cu mînile goale.

⁹For, behold, I will stir up and cause to come up against Babylon a company of great nations from the north country; and they shall set themselves in array against her; from there she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of an expert mighty man; none shall return in vain.

¹⁰Astfel va fi dată pradă jafului, Haldea, şi toţi ceice o vor jăfui se vor sătura de jaf, zice Domnul.``

¹⁰Chaldea shall be a prey: all who prey on her shall be satisfied, says Yahweh.

¹¹,,Căci voi v'aţi bucurat şi v'aţi veselit, cînd Mi-aţi jăfuit moştenirea Mea! Da, săreaţi ca o juncană în iarbă, nechiezaţi ca nişte armăsari focoşi!``

¹¹Because you are glad, because you rejoice, O you who plunder my heritage, because you are wanton as a heifer that treads out the grain, and neigh as strong horses;

¹²,,Mama voastră este acoperită de ruşine, cea care v'a născut roşeşte de ruşine; iată, ea este coada neamurilor, este un pustiu, un pămînt uscat şi fără apă!

¹²your mother shall be utterly disappointed; she who bore you shall be confounded: behold, she shall be the least of the nations, a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.

¹³Din pricina mîniei Domnului nu va mai fi locuită, şi va fi o pustietate. Toţi ceice vor trece pe lîngă Babilon, se vor mira şi vor fluiera pentru toate rănile lui.

¹³Because of the wrath of Yahweh she shall not be inhabited, but she shall be wholly desolate: everyone who goes by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.

¹⁴Înşiruiţi-vă de bătaie împrejurul Babilonului, voi toţi, arcaşii! Trageţi împotriva lui, nu faceţi economie de săgeţi! Căci a păcătuit împotriva Domnului.

¹⁴Set yourselves in array against Babylon all around, all you who bend the bow; shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she has sinned against Yahweh.

¹⁵Scoateţi din toate părţile un strigăt de război împotriva lui! El întinde mînile; temeliile i se prăbuşesc; zidurile i se surpă. Căci este răzbunarea Domnului. Răzbunaţi-vă pe el! Faceţi -i cum a făcut şi el!

¹⁵Shout against her all around: she has submitted herself; her bulwarks are fallen, her walls are thrown down; for it is the vengeance of Yahweh: take vengeance on her; as she has done, do to her.

¹⁶Nimiciţi cu desăvîrşire din Babilon pe celce samănă, şi pe cel ce mînuieşte secerea la vremea secerişului! Înaintea săbiei nimicitorului, fiecare să se întoarcă la poporul său, fiecare să fugă spre ţara lui.

¹⁶Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him who handles the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn everyone to his people, and they shall flee everyone to his own land.

¹⁷Israel este o oaie rătăcită pe care au gonit -o leii; împăratul Asiriei a mîncat -o cel dintîi; şi acesta din urmă i -a zdrobit oasele, acest Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului.``

¹⁷Israel is a hunted sheep; the lions have driven him away: first, the king of Assyria devoured him; and now at last Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones.

¹⁸,,De aceea aşa vorbeşte Domnul oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ,Iată, voi pedepsi pe împăratul Babilonului şi ţara lui, cum am pedepsit pe împăratul Asiriei.

¹⁸Therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

¹⁹Voi aduce înapoi pe Israel în păşunea lui; va paşte pe Carmel şi pe Basan, şi îşi va potoli foamea pe muntele lui Efraim şi în Galaad.

¹⁹I will bring Israel again to his pasture, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied on the hills of Ephraim and in Gilead.

²⁰În zilele acelea, în vremea aceea, -zice Domnul-se va căuta nelegiuirea lui Israel, şi nu va mai fi, şi păcatul lui Iuda, şi nu se va mai găsi; căci voi ierta rămăşiţa, pe care o voi lăsa.``

²⁰In those days, and in that time, says Yahweh, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I leave as a remnant.

²¹,,Suie-te împotriva ţării de două ori răzvrătită, împotriva locuitorilor ei, şi pedepseşte -i! Urmăreşte, măcelăreşte, nimiceşte -i! -zice Domnul-şi împlineşte în totul poruncile Mele!

²¹Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: kill and utterly destroy after them, says Yahweh, and do according to all that I have commanded you.

²²Strigăte de război răsună în ţară, şi prăpădul este mare.

²²A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.

²³Cum s'a rupt şi s'a sfărîmat ciocanul întregului pămînt! Babilonul este nimicit în mijlocul neamurilor!

²³How is the hammer of the whole earth cut apart and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

²⁴Ţi-am întins o cursă, şi ai fost prins, Babilonule, fără să te aştepţi.`` ,,Ai fost ajuns, apucat, pentrucă ai luptat împotriva Domnului.

²⁴I have laid a snare for you, and you are also taken, Babylon, and you weren’t aware: you are found, and also caught, because you have striven against Yahweh.

²⁵Domnul Şi -a deschis casa de arme, şi a scos din ea armele mîniei Lui; căci aceasta este o lucrare a Domnului, Dumnezeul oştirilor, în ţara Haldeilor.``

²⁵Yahweh has opened his armory, and has brought forth the weapons of his indignation; for the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, has a work to do in the land of the Chaldeans.

²⁶,,Pătrundeţi din toate părţile în Babilon, deschideţi -i grînarele, faceţi-le nişte mormane ca nişte grămezi de snopi, şi nimiciţi-le. Nimic să nu mai rămînă din el!

²⁶Come against her from the utmost border; open her storehouses; cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly; let nothing of her be left.

²⁷Ucideţi -i toţi taurii şi junghiaţi -i! Vai de ei! Căci le -a venit ziua, vremea pedepsirii lor!

²⁷Kill all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter: woe to them! for their day has come, the time of their visitation.

²⁸Ascultaţi strigătele fugarilor, ale celorce scapă din ţara Babilonului, ca să vestească în Sion răzbunarea Domnului, Dumnezeului nostru, răzbunarea pentru Templul Său!

²⁸The voice of those who flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of Yahweh our God, the vengeance of his temple.

²⁹Chemaţi împotriva Babilonului pe arcaşi, voi toţi cari încordaţi arcul! Tăbărîţi în jurul lui, ca nimeni să nu scape, răsplătiţi -i după faptele lui, faceţi -i întocmai cum a făcut şi el! Căci s'a semeţit împotriva Domnului, împotriva Sfîntului lui Israel!``

²⁹Call together the archers against Babylon, all those who bend the bow; encamp against her all around; let none of it escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do to her; for she has been proud against Yahweh, against the Holy One of Israel.

³⁰,,De aceea, tinerii lui vor cădea pe uliţe, şi toţi oamenii lui de război vor pieri în ziua aceea, zice Domnul.``

³⁰Therefore her young men will fall in her streets, and all her men of war will be brought to silence in that day, says Yahweh.

³¹,,Iată, am necaz pe tine, îngîmfatule! zice Domnul, Dumnezeul oştirilor; căci ţi -a sosit ziua, vremea pedepsirii tale!

³¹Behold, I am against you, you proud one, says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies; for your day has come, the time that I will visit you.

³²Îngîmfatul acela se va poticni şi va cădea, şi nimeni nu -l va ridica, voi pune foc cetăţilor lui, şi -i va mistui toate împrejurimile.``

³²The proud one shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up; and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all who are around him.

³³,,Aşa vorbeşte Domnul oştirilor: ,Copiii lui Israel şi copiii lui Iuda sînt apăsaţi împreună; toţi cei ce i-au dus robi îi opresc şi nu vor să le dea drumul.

³³Thus says Yahweh of Armies: The children of Israel and the children of Judah are oppressed together; and all who took them captive hold them fast; they refuse to let them go.

³⁴Dar puternic este Răzbunătorul lor, El, al cărui Nume este Domnul oştirilor. El le va apăra pricina, ca să dea odihnă ţării, şi să facă pe locuitorii Babilonului să tremure.`

³⁴Their Redeemer is strong; Yahweh of Armies is his name: he will thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

³⁵Sabia împotriva Haldeilor! -zice Domnul, -împotriva locuitorilor Babilonului, împotriva căpeteniilor şi înţelepţilor lui!

³⁵A sword is on the Chaldeans, says Yahweh, and on the inhabitants of Babylon, and on her princes, and on her wise men.

³⁶Sabia împotriva proorocilor minciunii, ca să ajungă ca nişte oameni fără minte! Sabia împotriva vitejilor lui, ca să rămînă încremeniţi!

³⁶A sword is on the boasters, and they shall become fools; a sword is on her mighty men, and they shall be dismayed.

³⁷Sabia împotriva cailor şi carălor lui, împotriva oamenilor de tot felul cari sînt în mijlocul lui, ca să ajungă ca femeile! Sabia împotriva vistieriilor lui, ca să fie jăfuite!

³⁷A sword is on their horses, and on their chariots, and on all the mixed people who are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is on her treasures, and they shall be robbed.

³⁸Seceta peste apele lui, ca să sece! Căci este o ţară de idoli, şi au înebunit cu idolii lor.

³⁸A drought is on her waters, and they shall be dried up; for it is a land of engraved images, and they are mad over idols.

³⁹Deaceea fiarele pustiei se vor aşeza acolo împreună cu şacalii, şi struţii vor locui acolo; nu va mai fi locuit niciodată, ci vecinic va rămînea nelocuit.

³⁹Therefore the wild animals of the desert with the wolves shall dwell there, and the ostriches shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited forever; neither shall it be lived in from generation to generation.

⁴⁰Ca şi Sodoma şi Gomora şi cetăţile vecine, pe cari le -a nimicit Dumnezeu, zice Domnul, aşa nu va mai fi locuit nici el, şi nimeni nu se va mai aşeza acolo. -

⁴⁰As when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities of it, says Yahweh, so shall no man dwell there, neither shall any son of man live therein.

⁴¹Iată, vine un popor dela miazănoapte, şi un neam mare şi nişte împăraţi puternici se ridică dela marginile pămîntului.

⁴¹Behold, a people comes from the north; and a great nation and many kings shall be stirred up from the uttermost parts of the earth.

⁴²Poartă arc şi suliţă, sînt necruţători şi fără milă; glasul le mugeşte ca marea; sînt călări pe cai, ca un om gata de luptă, împotriva ta, fiica Babilonului!

⁴²They lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roars like the sea; and they ride on horses, everyone set in array, as a man to the battle, against you, daughter of Babylon.

⁴³Împăratul Babilonului aude vestea, mîinile i se slăbesc, şi îl apucă groaza, ca durerea pe o femeie care naşte...

⁴³The king of Babylon has heard the news of them, and his hands wax feeble: anguish has taken hold of him, pains as of a woman in labor.

⁴⁴Iată, vrăjmaşul se suie ca un leu, depe malurile îngîmfate ale Iordanului împotriva locuinţei tale tari; deodată îi voi izgoni de acolo, şi voi pune peste ei pe acela, pe care l-am ales. Căci cine este ca Mine? Cine-Mi va porunci? Şi care căpetenie Îmi va sta împotrivă?``

⁴⁴Behold, the enemy shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoever is chosen, him will I appoint over it: for who is like me? and who will appoint me a time? and who is the shepherd who can stand before me?

⁴⁵Deaceea, ascultaţi hotărîrea pe care a luat -o Domnul împotriva Babilonului, şi planurile pe cari le -a făcut El împotriva ţării Haldeilor! ,,Cu adevărat, îi vor tîrî ca pe nişte oi slabe, cu adevărat, le vor pustii locuinţa.

⁴⁵Therefore hear the counsel of Yahweh, that he has taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely they shall drag them away, even the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them.

⁴⁶De strigătul luării Babilonului se cutremură pămîntul, şi se aude un strigăt de durere printre neamuri.``

⁴⁶At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth trembles, and the cry is heard among the nations.
