¹Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:

²S'au răsculat împotriva lui Moise, împreună cu două sute cincizeci de oameni din copiii lui Israel, din fruntaşii adunării, din ceice erau chemaţi la sfat, şi cari erau oameni cu nume.

²and they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred fifty princes of the congregation, called to the assembly, men of renown;

³Ei s'au adunat împotriva lui Moise şi Aaron, şi le-au zis: ,,Destul! căci toată adunarea, toţi sînt sfinţi, şi Domnul este în mijlocul lor. Pentruce vă ridicaţi voi mai pesus de adunarea Domnului?``

³and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, “You take too much on yourself, since all the congregation are holy, everyone of them, and Yahweh is among them: why then lift yourselves up above the assembly of Yahweh?”

⁴Cînd a auzit Moise lucrul acesta, a căzut cu faţa la pămînt.

⁴When Moses heard it, he fell on his face:

⁵A vorbit lui Core şi la toată ceata lui, şi a zis: ,,Mîne, Domnul va arăta cine este al Lui şi cine este sfînt, şi -l va lăsa să se apropie de El; va lăsa să se apropie de El pe acela pe care -l va alege.

⁵and he spoke to Korah and to all his company, saying, “In the morning Yahweh will show who are his, and who is holy, and will cause him to come near to him: even him whom he shall choose he will cause to come near to him.

⁶Iată ce să faceţi. Luaţi cădelniţe, Core şi toată ceata lui.

⁶Do this: take censers, Korah, and all his company;

⁷Mîne, puneţi foc în ele, şi puneţi tămîie pe el înaintea Domnului. Acela pe care -l va alege Domnul, va fi sfînt. Destul, copiii lui Levi.``

⁷and put fire in them, and put incense on them before Yahweh tomorrow: and it shall be that the man whom Yahweh chooses, he shall be holy. You have gone too far, you sons of Levi!”

⁸Moise a zis lui Core: ,,Ascultaţi dar, copiii lui Levi!

⁸Moses said to Korah, “Hear now, you sons of Levi!

⁹Prea puţin lucru este oare pentru voi că Dumnezeul lui Israel v'a ales din adunarea lui Israel, lăsîndu-vă să vă apropiaţi de El, ca să fiţi întrebuinţaţi la slujba cortului Domnului, şi să vă înfăţişaţi înaintea adunării ca să -i slujiţi?

⁹Is it a small thing to you, that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of Yahweh, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them;

¹⁰V'a lăsat să vă apropiaţi de El, pe tine, şi pe toţi fraţii tăi, pe copiii lui Levi, şi acum mai voiţi şi preoţia!

¹⁰and that he has brought you near, and all your brothers the sons of Levi with you? and do you seek the priesthood also?

¹¹De aceea te aduni tu şi ceata ta împotriva Domnului! Căci cine este Aaron, ca să cîrtiţi împotriva lui?``

¹¹Therefore you and all your company are gathered together against Yahweh: and Aaron, what is he that you murmur against him?”

¹²Moise a trimes să cheme pe Datan şi pe Abiram, fiii lui Eliab. Dar ei au zis: ,,Nu ne suim.

¹²Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; and they said, “We won’t come up:

¹³N'ajunge că ne-ai scos dintr'o ţară, unde curge lapte şi miere, ca să ne faci să murim în pustie, de vrei să mai şi stăpîneşti peste noi?

¹³is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but you must also make yourself a prince over us?

¹⁴Ce bine ne-ai mai dus într'o ţară unde curge lapte şi miere, şi ce bine ne-ai mai dat în stăpînire ogoare şi vii! Crezi că poţi să iei ochii oamenilor? Nu ne suim!``

¹⁴Moreover you haven’t brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: will you put out the eyes of these men? We won’t come up.”

¹⁵Moise s'a mîniat foarte tare, şi a zis Domnului: ,,Nu căuta la darul lor. Nu le-am luat nici măcar un măgar, şi n'am făcut rău niciunuia din ei.``

¹⁵Moses was very angry, and said to Yahweh, “Don’t respect their offering: I have not taken one donkey from them, neither have I hurt one of them.”

¹⁶Moise a zis lui Core: ,,Tu şi toată ceata ta, mîne să fiţi înaintea Domnului, tu şi ei, împreună cu Aaron.

¹⁶Moses said to Korah, “You and all your company go before Yahweh, you, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow:

¹⁷Luaţi-vă fiecare cădelniţa lui, puneţi tămîie în ea, şi aduceţi fiecare înaintea Domnului cădelniţa lui: două sute cincizeci de cădelniţe; tu şi Aaron, să vă luaţi şi voi fiecare cădelniţa lui.``

¹⁷and each man take his censer, and put incense on them, and each man bring before Yahweh his censer, two hundred fifty censers; you also, and Aaron, each his censer.”

¹⁸Şi-au luat fiecare cădelniţa, au pus foc în ea, au pus tămîie în foc, şi au stătut la uşa cortului întîlnirii, împreună cu Moise şi Aaron.

¹⁸They each took his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood at the door of the Tent of Meeting with Moses and Aaron.

¹⁹Şi Core a chemat toată adunarea împotriva lui Moise şi Aaron, la uşa cortului întîlnirii. Atunci slava Domnului s'a arătat întregei adunări.

¹⁹Korah assembled all the congregation against them to the door of the Tent of Meeting: and the glory of Yahweh appeared to all the congregation.

²⁰Şi Domnul a vorbit lui Moise şi lui Aaron, şi a zis:

²⁰Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

²¹,,Despărţiţi-vă din mijlocul acestei adunări, şi -i voi topi într'o clipă.``

²¹“Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment!”

²²Ei au căzut cu feţele la pămînt, şi au zis: ,,Dumnezeule, Dumnezeul duhurilor oricărui trup! Un singur om a păcătuit, şi să Te mînii împotriva întregei adunări?``

²²They fell on their faces, and said, “God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?”

²³Domnul a vorbit lui Moise, şi a zis:

²³Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

²⁴,,Vorbeşte adunării, şi spune -i: ,Daţi-vă la o parte din preajma locuinţei lui Core, Datan şi Abiram!``

²⁴“Speak to the congregation, saying, ‘Get away from around the tent of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram!’”

²⁵Moise s'a sculat, şi s'a dus la Datan şi Abiram; şi bătrînii lui Israel au mers după el.

²⁵Moses rose up and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.

²⁶A vorbit adunării, şi a zis: ,,Depărtaţi-vă de corturile acestor oameni răi, şi nu vă atingeţi de nimic din ce este al lor, ca să nu periţi odată cu pedepsirea lor pentru toate păcatele lor.``

²⁶He spoke to the congregation, saying, “Depart, please, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins!”

²⁷Ei s'au depărtat din preajma locuinţei lui Core, Datan şi Abiram. Datan şi Abiram au ieşit afară, şi au stătut la uşa corturilor lor, cu nevestele, copiii şi pruncii lor.

²⁷So they went away from the tent of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood at the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little ones.

²⁸Moise a zis: ,,Iată cum veţi cunoaşte că Domnul m'a trimes să fac toate aceste lucruri, şi să nu lucrez din capul meu.

²⁸Moses said, “Hereby you shall know that Yahweh has sent me to do all these works; for they are not from my own mind.

²⁹Dacă oamenii aceştia vor muri cum mor toţi oamenii şi dacă vor avea aceeaş soartă ca toţi oamenii, nu m'a trimes Domnul;

²⁹If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then Yahweh hasn’t sent me.

³⁰dar dacă Domnul va face un lucru ne mai auzit, dacă pămîntul îşi va deschide gura ca să -i înghită cu tot ce au, aşa încît se vor pogorî de vii în locuinţa morţilor, -atunci veţi şti că oamenii aceştia au hulit pe Domnul.``

³⁰But if Yahweh make a new thing, and the ground open its mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain to them, and they go down alive into Sheol Sheol is the place of the dead. ; then you shall understand that these men have despised Yahweh.”

³¹Pe cînd isprăvea el de spus toate aceste vorbe, pămîntul de subt ei s'a despicat în două.

³¹It happened, as he made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split apart that was under them;

³²Pămîntul şi -a deschis gura, şi i -a înghiţit, pe ei şi casele lor, împreună cu toţi oamenii lui Core şi toate averile lor.

³²and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men who appertained to Korah, and all their goods.

³³Şi s'au pogorît astfel de vii în locuinţa morţilor, ei şi tot ce aveau; pămîntul i -a acoperit de tot, şi au perit din mijlocul adunării.

³³So they, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into Sheol Sheol is the place of the dead. : and the earth closed on them, and they perished from among the assembly.

³⁴Tot Israelul, care era în jurul lor, cînd au ţipat ei, a fugit; căci ziceau: ,,Să fugim ca să nu ne înghită pămîntul!``

³⁴All Israel that were around them fled at their cry; for they said, “Lest the earth swallow us up!”

³⁵Un foc a ieşit dela Domnul, şi a mistuit pe cei două sute cinci zeci de oameni cari aduceau tămîia.

³⁵Fire came forth from Yahweh, and devoured the two hundred fifty men who offered the incense.

³⁶Domnul a vorbit lui Moise, şi a zis:

³⁶Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

³⁷,,Spune lui Eleazar, fiul preotului Aaron, să scoată cădelniţele din foc şi să lepede focul din ele, căci sînt sfinţite.

³⁷“Speak to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter the fire yonder; for they are holy,

³⁸Cu cădelniţele acestor oameni cari au păcătuit şi au ispăşit păcatul cu viaţa lor, să se facă nişte plăci întinse, cu cari să se acopere altarul. Fiindcă au fost aduse înaintea Domnului şi sînt sfinţite, să slujească de aducere aminte copiilor lui Israel.

³⁸even the censers of these sinners against their own lives; and let them be made beaten plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before Yahweh; therefore they are holy; and they shall be a sign to the children of Israel.”

³⁹Preotul Eleazar a luat cădelniţele de aramă, pe cari le aduseseră cei arşi, şi a făcut din ele nişte plăci pentru acoperirea altarului.

³⁹Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers, which those who were burnt had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of the altar,

⁴⁰Acesta este un semn de aducere aminte pentru copiii lui Israel, pentru ca niciun străin, care nu este din neamul lui Aaron, să nu se apropie să aducă tămîie înaintea Domnului, şi să nu i se întîmple ca lui Core şi cetei lui, după cum spusese Domnul prin Moise.

⁴⁰to be a memorial to the children of Israel, to the end that no stranger, who isn’t of the seed of Aaron, comes near to burn incense before Yahweh; that he not be as Korah, and as his company: as Yahweh spoke to him by Moses.

⁴¹A doua zi, toată adunarea copiilor lui Israel a cîrtit împotriva lui Moise şi împotriva lui Aaron, zicînd: ,,Voi aţi omorît pe poporul Domnului!``

⁴¹But on the next day all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, “You have killed Yahweh’s people!”

⁴²Pe cînd se strîngea adunarea împotriva lui Moise şi împotriva lui Aaron, şi pe cînd îşi îndreptau privirile spre cortul întîlnirii, iată că l -a acoperit norul, şi s'a arătat slava Domnului.

⁴²It happened, when the congregation was assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the Tent of Meeting: and behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of Yahweh appeared.

⁴³Atunci Moise şi Aaron au venit înaintea cortului întîlnirii.

⁴³Moses and Aaron came to the front of the Tent of Meeting.

⁴⁴Şi Domnul a vorbit lui Moise, şi a zis:

⁴⁴Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

⁴⁵,,Daţi-vă la o parte din mijlocul acestei adunări, şi -i voi topi într'o clipă!`` Ei au căzut cu feţele la pămînt;

⁴⁵“Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment!” They fell on their faces.

⁴⁶şi Moise a zis lui Aaron: ,,Ia cădelniţa, pune foc în ea de pe altar, pune tămîie în ea, du-te repede la adunare, şi fă ispăşire pentru ei; căci a izbucnit mînia Domnului, şi a început urgia.``

⁴⁶Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer, and put fire from off the altar in it, and lay incense on it, and carry it quickly to the congregation, and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from Yahweh! The plague has begun.”

⁴⁷Aaron a luat cădelniţa, cum zisese Moise, şi a alergat în mijlocul adunării; şi iată că începuse urgia printre popor. El a tămîiat şi a făcut ispăşire pentru norod.

⁴⁷Aaron did as Moses said, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and behold, the plague has begun among the people: and he put on the incense, and made atonement for the people.

⁴⁸S'a aşezat între cei morţi şi între cei vii, şi urgia a încetat.

⁴⁸He stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.

⁴⁹Patrusprezece mii şapte sute de inşi au murit de urgia aceasta, afară de ceice muriseră din pricina lui Core.

⁴⁹Now those who died by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides those who died about the matter of Korah.

⁵⁰Aaron s'a întors la Moise, la uşa cortului întîlnirii. Urgia încetase.

⁵⁰Aaron returned to Moses to the door of the Tent of Meeting: and the plague was stayed.
