¹În luna a opta, în anul al doilea al lui Dariu, Cuvîntul Domnului a vorbit proorocului Zaharia, fiul lui Berechia, fiul lui Ido, astfel:

¹In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,

²,,Domnul S'a mîniat foarte tare pe părinţii voştri.

²“Yahweh was very displeased with your fathers.

³Spune-le dar: Aşa vorbeşte Domnul oştirilor: ...Întoarceţi-vă la Mine, zice Domnul oştirilor: şi Mă voi întoarce şi Eu la voi, zice Domnul oştirilor....

³Therefore tell them: Thus says Yahweh of Armies: ‘Return to me,’ says Yahweh of Armies, ‘and I will return to you,’ says Yahweh of Armies.

⁴Nu fiţi ca părinţii voştri, cărora le vorbeau proorocii de mai înainte, zicînd: ...Aşa vorbeşte Domnul oştirilor: ...Întoarceţi-vă dela căile voastre cele rele, dela faptele voastre cele rele!... Dar n'au ascultat şi n'au lut aminte la Mine, zice Domnul.``

⁴Don’t you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Thus says Yahweh of Armies, ‘Return now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings;’ but they did not hear, nor listen to me, says Yahweh.

⁵,,Unde sînt acum părinţii voştri? Şi puteau proorocii să trăiască vecinic?

⁵Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?

⁶Totuş cuvintele Mele şi poruncile pe cari le dădusem slujitorilor Mei proorocii, ca să le vestească, n'au atins ele pe părinţii voştri? Şi atunci ei s'au întors, şi au zis: ,,Domnul oştirilor ne -a făcut cum hotărîse să ne facă, după căile şi faptele noastre!``

⁶But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didn’t they overtake your fathers? “Then they repented and said, ‘Just as Yahweh of Armies determined to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.’”

⁷În a două zeci şi patra zi a lunii a unsprezecea, care este luna Şebat, în anul al doilea al lui Dariu, Cuvîntul Domnului a vorbit proorocului Zaharia, fiul lui Berechia, fiul lui Ido, astfel:

⁷On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,

⁸M'am uitat noaptea, şi iată că un om era călare pe un cal roş, şi stătea între mirţi într'un umbrar; în urma lui erau nişte cai roşi, murgi şi albi.

⁸“I had a vision in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in a ravine; and behind him there were red, brown, and white horses.

⁹Am întrebat: ,,Ce înseamnă caii aceştia, domnul meu?`` Şi îngerul care vorbea cu mine mi -a zis: ,,Îţi voi arăta ce înseamnă caii aceştia!``

⁹Then I asked, ‘My lord, what are these?’” The angel who talked with me said to me, “I will show you what these are.”

¹⁰Omul care stătea între mirţi a luat cuvîntul şi a zis: ,,Aceştia sînt aceia pe cari i -a trimes Domnul să cutreiere pămîntul!``

¹⁰The man who stood among the myrtle trees answered, “They are the ones Yahweh has sent to go back and forth through the earth.”

¹¹Şi ei au vorbit Îngerului Domnului, care stătea între mirţi, şi au zis: ,,Am cutreierat pămîntul, şi iată că tot pămîntul este în pace şi liniştit!``

¹¹They reported to the angel of Yahweh who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, “We have walked back and forth through the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and in peace.”

¹²Atunci Îngerul Domnului a luat cuvîntul, şi a zis: ,,Doamne al oştirilor, pînă cînd nu vei avea milă de Ierusalim şi de cetăţile lui Iuda, pe cari Te-ai mîniat în aceşti şapte zeci de ani?``

¹²Then the angel of Yahweh replied, “O Yahweh of Armies, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?”

¹³Domnul a răspuns cu vorbe bune, cu vorbe de mîngîiere, îngerului care vorbea cu mine.

¹³Yahweh answered the angel who talked with me with kind and comforting words.

¹⁴Şi îngerul, care vorbea cu mine, mi -a zis: ,,Strigă, şi zi: ...Aşa vorbeşte Domnul oştirilor: ...Sînt plin de o mare gelozie pentru Ierusalim şi pentru Sion,

¹⁴So the angel who talked with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh of Armies: “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

¹⁵şi sînt plin de o mare mînie împotriva neamurilor îngîmfate; căci Mă mîniasem numai puţin, dar ele au ajutat spre nenorocire.

¹⁵I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, but they added to the calamity.”

¹⁶Deaceea aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ...Mă întorc cu îndurarea către Ierusalim; Casa Mea va fi zidită iarăş în el, şi funia de măsurat se va întinde asupra Ierusalimului....

¹⁶Therefore thus says Yahweh: “I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy. My house shall be built in it,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and a line shall be stretched forth over Jerusalem.”’

¹⁷Strigă din nou, şi zi: ...Aşa vorbeşte Domnul oştirilor: ...Cetăţile Mele vor avea iarăş belşug de bunătăţi, Domnul va mîngîia iarăş Sionul, va alege iarăş Ierusalimul.``

¹⁷“Proclaim further, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh of Armies: “My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and Yahweh will again comfort Zion, and will again choose Jerusalem.”’”

¹⁸Am ridicat ochii şi m'am uitat, şi iată că erau patru coarne!

¹⁸I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold, four horns.

¹⁹Am întrebat îngerul, care vorbea cu mine: ,,Ce înseamnă coarnele acestea?`` Şi el mi -a zis: ,,Acestea sînt coarnele, cari au risipit pe Iuda, pe Israel şi Ierusalimul.``

¹⁹I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” He answered me, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”

²⁰Domnul mi -a arătat patru fierari.

²⁰Yahweh showed me four craftsmen.

²¹Eu am întrebat: ,,Ce vor să facă aceştia?`` Şi el a zis: ,,Aceştia vin să sperie coarnele cari au risipit pe Iuda, de n'a mai putut ridica nimeni capul; ferarii aceştia au venit să sperie, şi să taie coarnele neamurilor cari au ridicat cornul împotriva ţării lui Iuda, ca să -i risipească locuitorii.``

²¹Then I asked, “What are these coming to do?” He said, “These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man lifted up his head; but these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.”
