¹A keď videla Rácheľ, že nerodí Jakobovi, závidela svojej sestre a povedala Jakobovi: Daj mi synov;lebo ak nedáš, zomriem.

¹And Rachel seeth that she hath not borne to Jacob, and Rachel is envious of her sister, and saith unto Jacob, `Give me sons, and if there is none — I die.`

²Vtedy sa rozhneval Jakob na Rácheľ a povedal: Či som ja na mieste Boha, ktorý ti odoprel plod života?

²And Jacob`s anger burneth against Rachel, and he saith, `Am I in stead of God who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?`

³Na to povedala: Hľa, tam je moja dievka Bilha, vojdi k nej, a porodí na moje kolená, a budem i ja mať z nej synov.

³And she saith, `Lo, my handmaid Bilhah, go in unto her, and she doth bear on my knees, and I am built up, even I, from her;`

⁴A dala mu Bilhu, svoju dievku, za ženu. A Jakob vošiel k nej.

⁴and she giveth to him Bilhah her maid-servant for a wife, and Jacob goeth in unto her;

⁵A Bilha počala a porodila Jakobovi syna.

⁵and Bilhah conceiveth, and beareth to Jacob a son,

⁶Vtedy povedala Rácheľ: Bôh rozsúdil moju vec aj uslyšal môj hlas a dal mi syna. Preto nazvala jeho meno Dán.

⁶and Rachel saith, `God hath decided for me, and also hath hearkened to my voice, and giveth to me a son;` therefore hath she called his name Dan.

⁷A ešte počala a porodila Bilha, dievka Ráchelina, Jakobovi druhého syna.

⁷And Bilhah, Rachel`s maid-servant, conceiveth again, and beareth a second son to Jacob,

⁸A Rácheľ povedala: Borby Božie som sa borila so svojou sestrou aj som premohla a nazvala jeho meno Naftali.

⁸and Rachel saith, `With wrestlings of God I have wrestled with my sister, yea, I have prevailed;` and she calleth his name Napthali.

⁹A keď videla Lea, že prestala rodiť, vzala Zilfu, svoju dievku, a dala ju Jakobovi za ženu.

⁹And Leah seeth that she hath ceased from bearing, and she taketh Zilpah her maid-servant, and giveth her to Jacob for a wife;

¹⁰A Zilfa, dievka Leina, porodila Jakobovi syna.

¹⁰and Zilpah, Leah`s maid-servant, beareth to Jacob a son,

¹¹Vtedy povedala Lea: Zástupom prichádzajú, a nazvala jeho meno Gád.

¹¹and Leah saith, `A troop is coming;` and she calleth his name Gad.

¹²A Zilfa, dievka Leina, porodila Jakobovi druhého syna.

¹²And Zilpah, Leah`s maid-servant, beareth a second son to Jacob,

¹³A Lea povedala: To na moje blahoslavenstvo, lebo ma budú blahoslaviť dcéry, a nazvala jeho meno Aser.

¹³and Leah saith, `Because of my happiness, for daughters have pronounced me happy;` and she calleth his name Asher.

¹⁴A Rúben išiel vo dňoch, keď sa žne pšenica, a našiel ľúbostné jablká na poli. A doniesol ich k Lei, svojej matke. A Rácheľ povedala Lei: Daj mi prosím, z jabĺk svojeho syna!

¹⁴And Reuben goeth in the days of wheat-harvest, and findeth love-apples in the field, and bringeth them in unto Leah, his mother, and Rachel saith unto Leah, `Give to me, I pray thee, of the love-apples of thy son.`

¹⁵Ale ona jej povedala: Či ti je to málo, že si vzala môjho muža a vezmeš ešte i jablká môjho syna? A Rácheľ odpovedala: Nech tedy leží s tebou za jablká tvojho syna.

¹⁵And she saith to her, `Is thy taking my husband a little thing, that thou hast taken also the love-apples of my son?` and Rachel saith, `Therefore doth he lie with thee to-night, for thy son`s love-apples.`

¹⁶Keď potom prišiel Jakob večer z poľa, vyšla Lea oproti nemu a povedala: Ku mne vojdeš, lebo som si ťa najala za jablká svojho syna, ktoré som dala jako mzdu. A tak ležal s ňou tej noci.

¹⁶And Jacob cometh in from the field at evening; and Leah goeth to meet him, and saith, `Unto me dost thou come in, for hiring I have hired thee with my son`s love-apples;` and he lieth with her during that night.

¹⁷A Bôh uslyšal Leu, a počala a porodila Jakobovi piateho syna.

¹⁷And God hearkeneth unto Leah, and she conceiveth, and beareth to Jacob a son, a fifth,

¹⁸A Lea povedala: Bôh mi dal moju mzdu, keď som dala svojmu mužovi svoju dievku, a nazvala jeho meno Izachár.

¹⁸and Leah saith, `God hath given my hire, because I have given my maid-servant to my husband;` and she calleth his name Issachar.

¹⁹A ešte počala Lea a porodila Jakobovi šiesteho syna.

¹⁹And conceive again doth Leah, and she beareth a sixth son to Jacob,

²⁰A Lea povedala: Bôh ma obdaril dobrým darom. Tento raz už bude bývať so mnou môj muž, lebo som mu porodila šiestich synov a nazvala jeho meno Zabulon.

²⁰and Leah saith, `God hath endowed me — a good dowry; this time doth my husband dwell with me, for I have borne to him six sons;` and she calleth his name Zebulun;

²¹Potom porodila dcéru a nazvala jej meno Dína.

²¹and afterwards hath she born a daughter, and calleth her name Dinah.

²²A Bôh sa rozpamätal na Rácheľ a uslyšal ju Bôh a otvoril jej život.

²²And God remembereth Rachel, and God hearkeneth unto her, and openeth her womb,

²³A počala a porodila syna a povedala: Bôh odňal moje pohanenie,

²³and she conceiveth and beareth a son, and saith, `God hath gathered up my reproach;`

²⁴a nazvala jeho meno Jozef; lebo povedala: Nech mi pridá Hospodin aj druhého syna!

²⁴and she calleth his name Joseph, saying, `Jehovah is adding to me another son.`

²⁵A stalo sa, keď porodila Rácheľ Jozefa, že Jakob povedal Lábanovi: Prepusti ma, a pojdem na svoje miesto a do svojej zeme.

²⁵And it cometh to pass, when Rachel hath borne Joseph, that Jacob saith unto Laban, `Send me away, and I go unto my place, and to my land;

²⁶Daj mi moje ženy a moje deti, za ktoré som ti slúžil, aby som odišiel, lebo však ty vieš o mojej službe, ktorú som ti slúžil.

²⁶give up my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and I go; for thou — thou hast known my service which I have served thee.`

²⁷A Lában mu povedal: Ak som našiel milosť v tvojich očiach, zostaň; lebo badám, že ma Hospodin žehnal pre teba.

²⁷And Laban saith unto him, `If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes — I have observed diligently that Jehovah doth bless me for thy sake.`

²⁸A dodal: Udaj mi svoju mzdu, a dám.

²⁸He saith also, `Define thy hire to me, and I give.`

²⁹A on mu povedal: Ty vieš, ako som ti slúžil, ako aj to, jaký bol tvoj dobytok u mňa.

²⁹And he saith unto him, `Thou — thou hast known that which I have served thee [in], and that which thy substance was with me;

³⁰Lebo to málo, čo si mal predo mnou, rozmnožilo sa vo množstvo, a Hospodin ťa požehnal, odkedy vkročila k tebe moja noha. A teraz kedyže i ja budem pracovať pre svoj vlastný dom?

³⁰for [it is] little which thou hast had at my appearance, and it breaketh forth into a multitude, and Jehovah blesseth thee at my coming; and now, when do I make, I also, for mine own house?`

³¹A povedal: Čo ti mám dať? A Jakob odpovedal: Nedáš mi ničoho. Ak mi urobíš túto vec, budem zase pásť tvoje stádo a strážiť.

³¹And he saith, `What do I give to thee?` And Jacob saith, `Thou dost not give me anything; if thou do for me this thing, I turn back; I have delight; thy flock I watch;

³²Prejdem dnes pomedzi celé tvoje stádo a oddelím ztade každé dobytča bodkasté a strakaté a každé dobytča čierne medzi ovcami a strakaté a bodkasté medzi kozami, a to bude mojou mzdou.

³²I pass through all thy flock to-day to turn aside from thence every sheep speckled and spotted, and every brown sheep among the lambs, and speckled and spotted among the goats — and it hath been my hire;

³³A moja spravedlivosť bude odpovedať za mňa voľakedy v budúcnosti, keď prijde pre moju mzdu pred teba. Všetko, čo by nebolo bodkasté alebo strakaté medzi kozami a čierne medzi ovcami, nech je to u mňa za ukradnuté.

³³and my righteousness hath answered for me in the day to come, when it cometh in for my hire before thy face; — every one which is not speckled and spotted among [my] goats, and brown among [my] lambs — it is stolen with me.`

³⁴A Lában povedal: Hľa, bárs by bolo podľa tvojho slova!

³⁴And Laban saith, `Lo, O that it were according to thy word;`

³⁵A odlúčil toho dňa pásikavých kozlov a strakatých a všetky bodkasté a strakaté kozy, všetko, na čom bolo biele, všetko čierne medzi ovcami a oddal to do rúk svojich synov.

³⁵and he turneth aside during that day the ring-straked and the spotted he-goats, and all the speckled and the spotted she-goats, every one that [hath] white in it, and every brown one among the lambs, and he giveth into the hand of his sons,

³⁶A urobil medzi sebou a medzi Jakobom vzdialenosť cesty troch dní. A Jakob pásol ostatok drobného stáda Lábanovho.

³⁶and setteth a journey of three days between himself and Jacob; and Jacob is feeding the rest of the flock of Laban.

³⁷A Jakob si nabral topoľových prútov zelených i lieskových i kaštanových a nalúpal na nich bielych lupín obnažujúc bielosť, ktorá bola na prútoch.

³⁷And Jacob taketh to himself a rod of fresh poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut, and doth peel in them white peelings, making bare the white that [is] on the rods,

³⁸A nastaväl prútov, ktoré olúpal, do žľabov, do válovov na vodu, kam prichádzalo stádo piť, pred stádo, aby počínaly, keď prichádzaly piť.

³⁸and setteth up the rods which he hath peeled in the gutters in the watering troughs (when the flock cometh in to drink), over-against the flock, that they may conceive in their coming in to drink;

³⁹A tak počínalo stádo hľadiac na prúty, a stádo rodilo pásikavé, bodkasté a strakaté.

³⁹and the flocks conceive at the rods, and the flock beareth ring-straked, speckled, and spotted ones.

⁴⁰Tak odlúčil Jakob jahnence a obrátil stádo tvárou k pásikavému i všetko čierne v stáde Lábanovom a sebe postavil po každé stáda osobitne a nepostavil ich ku stádu Lábanovmu.

⁴⁰And the lambs hath Jacob parted, and he putteth the face of the flock towards the ring-straked, also all the brown in the flock of Laban, and he setteth his own droves by themselves, and hath not set them near Laban`s flock.

⁴¹A bývalo tak, že kedykoľvek bolo niečo silnejšie pripúšťané zo stáda, aby sa párilo, kládol Jakob prúty pred oči stáda do žľabov, aby počínaly pri prútoch.

⁴¹And it hath come to pass whenever the strong ones of the flock conceive, that Jacob set the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, to cause them to conceive by the rods,

⁴²Keď zase bolo pripúšťané slabšie zo stáda, nekládol ich. A takým činom bolo čo slabšie Lábanovo a čo silnejšie Jakobovo.

⁴²and when the flock is feeble, he doth not set [them]; and the feeble ones have been Laban`s, and the strong ones Jacob`s.

⁴³A človek sa rozmohol náramne a mal mnoho stáda a slúžek a sluhov a veľblúdov a oslov.

⁴³And the man increaseth very exceedingly, and hath many flocks, and maid-servants, and men-servants, and camels, and asses.
