¹Osemnásteho roku kráľa Jeroboáma kraľoval Abiáš nad Júdom.

¹In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.

²Tri roky kraľoval v Jeruzaleme. A meno jeho matky bolo Michaja, dcéra Uriélova z Gibee. A bola vojna medzi Abiášom a medzi Jeroboámom.

²He reigned three years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

³A Abiáš nadviazal vojnu s vojskom udatných bojovníkov, so štyristo tisíc vybranými mužmi. A Jeroboám sa prihotovil s ním do boja s osemsto tisíc vybranými mužmi udatnými.

³Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valor.

⁴A Abiáš sa postavil od hora vrchu Cemaraima, ktorý je v pohorí Efraimovom, a riekol: Počujte ma, Jeroboáme a celý Izrael!

⁴Abijah stood up on Mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, “Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel:

⁵Či vy nemáte vedieť, že Hospodin, Bôh Izraelov, dal kráľovstvo nad Izraelom Dávidovi na veky, jemu a jeho synom smluvou soli?

⁵Ought you not to know that Yahweh, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

⁶Ale povstal Jeroboám, syn Nebátov, služobník Šalamúna, syna Dávidovho, a sprotivil sa svojmu pánovi!

⁶Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up, and rebelled against his lord.

⁷A sobrali sa spolu s ním bohaprázdni mužovia zaháľčiví, synovia beliála, a zmocnili sa proti Rechabeámovi, synovi Šalamúnovmu, kým Rechabeám bol dieťa a nežného srdca a neukázal sa pred nimi silným.

⁷There were gathered to him worthless men, base fellows, who strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.

⁸A tak teraz vy hovoríte vo svojom srdci, že sa ukážete silnými voči kráľovstvu Hospodinovmu, ktoré je v ruke synov Dávidových, a je vás veliké množstvo a máte so sebou zlaté teľce, ktoré vám spravil Jeroboám, za bohov!

⁸“Now you think to withstand the kingdom of Yahweh in the hand of the sons of David; and you are a great multitude, and there are with you the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods.

⁹Či ste azda nezahnali kňazov Hospodinových, synov Áronových, a Levitov? A narobili ste si kňazov ako národy iných zemí; ktokoľvek prijde, aby naplnil svoju ruku juncom alebo siedmimi baranmi, nuž stane sa kňazom tomu, čo nie je Bohom.

⁹Haven’t you driven out the priests of Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves after the ways of the peoples of other lands? so that whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams, the same may be a priest of those who are no gods.

¹⁰Ale naším Bohom je Hospodin, a neopustili sme ho, a kňazmi, ktorí svätoslúžia Hospodinovi, sú synovia Áronovi, a Levitovia sú pri svojej práci

¹⁰“But as for us, Yahweh is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and we have priests ministering to Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work:

¹¹a kadiac pália Hospodinovi zápalné obeti každého rána a každého večera a kadivo z voňavých vecí, aj predloženie chleba je na čistom stole, i zlatý svietnik máme i jeho lampy, aby ich zapaľovali každého večera. Lebo my ostríhame nariadenia Hospodina, svojho Boha; ale vy ste ho opustili.

¹¹and they burn to Yahweh every morning and every evening burnt offerings and sweet incense. They also set the show bread in order on the pure table; and the lampstand of gold with its lamps, to burn every evening: for we keep the instruction of Yahweh our God; but you have forsaken him.

¹²A hľa, preto je s nami na čele Bôh ako vodca, a sú s nami jeho kňazi a trúby radostného pretrubovania, aby mocne trúbily proti vám, synovia Izraelovi! Nebojujte s Hospodinom, Bohom svojich otcov, lebo sa vám nepovodí šťastne!

¹²Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, don’t fight against Yahweh, the God of your fathers; for you shall not prosper.”

¹³Medzitým poslal Jeroboám úkladníkov naokolo, aby im prišli od chrbta. A tak boli pred Júdom, a úklad im bol od chrbta.

¹³But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.

¹⁴A keď sa obrátili mužovia Júdovi, uvideli, že hľa, nastáva im boj zpredu aj zozadu. Vtedy kričali k Hospodinovi, a kňazi trúbili na trúby.

¹⁴When Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them; and they cried to Yahweh, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

¹⁵A mužovia Júdovi kričali, nadšení na boj. A stalo sa v tom, keď kričali mužovia Júdovi na boj, že Bôh porazil Jeroboáma i celého Izraela pred Abiášom a pred Júdom.

¹⁵Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it happened, that God struck Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

¹⁶A synovia Izraelovi utekali pred Júdom, a Bôh ich dal do ich ruky.

¹⁶The children of Israel fled before Judah; and God delivered them into their hand.

¹⁷A tak ich porazili, Abiáš a jeho ľud, veľkou porážkou, takže padlo zabitých z Izraela päťsto tisíc vybraných mužov.

¹⁷Abijah and his people killed them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

¹⁸A tak boli zohnutí synovia Izraelovi toho času. A zmocnili sa synovia Júdovi, lebo sa opreli na Hospodina, Boha svojich otcov.

¹⁸Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied on Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

¹⁹A tedy honil Abiáš utekajúceho Jeroboáma a vzal mu mestá, Bét-el a jeho dediny, Ješanu a jej dediny a Efron a jeho dediny.

¹⁹Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Bethel with its towns, and Jeshanah with its towns, and Ephron with its towns.

²⁰Ani sa viacej nezmohol Jeroboám za dní Abiášových. Potom ho ranil Hospodin, aj zomrel.

²⁰Jeroboam didn’t recover strength again in the days of Abijah. Yahweh struck him, and he died.

²¹A Abiáš sa zmocnil a vzal si štrnásť žien a splodil dvadsaťdva synov a šestnásť dcér.

²¹But Abijah grew mighty, and took to himself fourteen wives, and became the father of twenty-two sons, and sixteen daughters.
