¹Keď vyjdeš do vojny proti svojmu nepriateľovi a uvidíš kone, vozy a ľud, ktorého bude viac ako teba, nebudeš sa ich báť, lebo Hospodin, tvoj Bôh, je s tebou, ktorý ťa vyviedol hore z Egyptskej zeme.

¹When you go forth to battle against your enemies, and see horses, chariots, and a people more than you, you shall not be afraid of them; for Yahweh your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

²A bude, keď sa už budete blížiť boju, že pristúpi kňaz a bude hovoriť ľudu

²It shall be, when you draw near to the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people,

³a povie im: Počuj, Izraelu, vy sa dnes blížite boju idúc proti svojim nepriateľom. Nech sa neľaká vaše srdce, nebojte sa a nestrachujte sa ani sa netraste pred nimi.

³and shall tell them, “Hear, Israel, you draw near this day to battle against your enemies: don’t let your heart faint; don’t be afraid, nor tremble, neither be scared of them;

⁴Lebo Hospodin, váš Bôh je to, ktorý ide s vami, aby bojoval za vás s vašimi nepriateľmi, aby vás zachránil.

⁴for Yahweh your God is he who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.”

⁵A správcovia budú hovoriť ľudu a povedia: Kto je tu taký, ktorý vystavil nový dom a neposvätil ho ešte? Nech ide a navráti sa do svojho domu, aby nezomrel v boji, a posvätil by ho iný.

⁵The officers shall speak to the people, saying, “What man is there who has built a new house, and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.

⁶A kto je tu medzi vami taký, ktorý vysadil vinicu a neprevzal jej ešte do obecného užitku oddajúc prvú úrodu Hospodinovi? Nech ide a navráti sa do svojho domu, aby nezomrel v boji, a niekto iný by ju prevzal do obecného užitku.

⁶What man is there who has planted a vineyard, and has not used its fruit? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man use its fruit.

⁷A kto je tu taký, ktorý si zasnúbil ženu a ešte si jej nevzal? Nech ide a navráti sa do svojho domu, aby nezomrel v boji, a vzal by si ju niektorý iný.

⁷What man is there who has pledged to be married a wife, and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.”

⁸A ešte toto budú hovoriť správcovia ľudu a povedia: Kto je tu taký, ktorý sa bojí, a ktorého srdce sa ľaká? Nech ide a navráti sa do svojho domu, aby nezmalátnil srdca svojich bratov, ako je zmalátnelé jeho srdce.

⁸The officers shall speak further to the people, and they shall say, “What man is there who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go and return to his house, lest his brother’s heart melt as his heart.”

⁹A bude, keď dohovoria správcovia ľudu, že ustanovia veliteľov vojska a postavia ich na čelo ľudu.

⁹It shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking to the people, that they shall appoint captains of armies at the head of the people.

¹⁰Keď sa priblížiš k niektorému mestu, aby si bojoval proti nemu, ponúkneš mu pokoj.

¹⁰When you draw near to a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace to it.

¹¹A bude, ak ti odvetí pokojom a otvorí ti svoje brány, vtedy bude tak, že všetok ľud, ktorý sa najde v ňom, všetci ti budú poplatní a budú ti slúžiť.

¹¹It shall be, if it makes you answer of peace, and opens to you, then it shall be, that all the people who are found therein shall become tributary to you, and shall serve you.

¹²Ale keby neučinilo s tebou pokoja a pustilo by sa s tebou do boja, vtedy ho obľahneš.

¹²If it will make no peace with you, but will make war against you, then you shall besiege it:

¹³A keď ho vydá Hospodin, tvoj Bôh, do tvojej ruky, pobiješ všetko jeho mužského pohlavia ostrím meča.

¹³and when Yahweh your God delivers it into your hand, you shall strike every male of it with the edge of the sword:

¹⁴Iba ženy a drobné deti jako i hovädá i všetko, čo bude v meste, všetku jeho korisť ulúpiš sebe a budeš jesť ukoristené od svojich nepriateľov, ktorých ti vydá Hospodin, tvoj Bôh.

¹⁴but the women, and the little ones, and the livestock, and all that is in the city, even all its spoil, you shall take for a prey to yourself; and you shall eat the spoil of your enemies, which Yahweh your God has given you.

¹⁵Tak učiníš všetkým mestám, ktoré sú ďaleko vzdialené od teba, ktoré nie sú z miest týchto národov.

¹⁵Thus you shall do to all the cities which are very far off from you, which are not of the cities of these nations.

¹⁶Ale z miest tých národov, ktoré ti dáva Hospodin, tvoj Bôh, do dedičstva, neponecháš živej niktorej duše,

¹⁶But of the cities of these peoples, that Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes;

¹⁷lež istotne ich zahladíš zarieknuc ich úplnej záhube: Heteja a Amoreja, Kananeja a Ferezeja, Heveja a Jebuzeja, tak ako ti prikázal Hospodin, tvoj Bôh,

¹⁷but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; as Yahweh your God has commanded you;

¹⁸a to preto, aby vás nenaučili robiť podľa niktorých svojich ohavností, ktoré robia svojim bohom, a hrešili by ste proti Hospodinovi, svojmu Bohu.

¹⁸that they not teach you to do after all their abominations, which they have done to their gods; so would you sin against Yahweh your God.

¹⁹Keby si obliehal niektoré mesto za dlhý čas bojujúc proti nemu, aby si ho zaujal, nezkazíš jeho stromov tým, že by si ich povytínal sekerou, lebo z nich budeš jesť a preto ich nevysekáš. Lebo veď či je poľný strom človek, aby vošiel pred tebou do ohrady?

¹⁹When you shall besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an axe against them; for you may eat of them, and you shall not cut them down; for is the tree of the field man, that it should be besieged of you?

²⁰Avšak strom, ktorý znáš, že nie je ovocným stromom, môžeš zkaziť a vyťať a vystavíš si baštu proti mestu, ktoré bojuje s tebou, dokiaľ si ho nepodmaníš.

²⁰Only the trees of which you know that they are not trees for food, you shall destroy and cut them down; and you shall build bulwarks against the city that makes war with you, until it fall.
