¹Sinovi Izraelovi pa so zagrešili nezvestobo pri prokletem; zakaj Ahan, sin Karmija, sinu Zabdija, Zerahovega sinu, iz rodu Judovega, je vzel od prokletega. In srd GOSPODOV se je razvnel zoper Izraelove sinove.

¹And the sons of Israel commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and Achan, son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, taketh of the devoted thing, and the anger of Jehovah burneth against the sons of Israel.

²Kajti Jozue je poslal može iz Jeriha proti Aju, ki je pri Betavenu, vzhodno od Betela, in jim rekel: Pojdite gori in oglejte deželo. In gredo in ogledajo Aj.

²And Joshua sendeth men from Jericho to Ai, which [is] near Beth-Aven, on the east of Bethel, and speaketh unto them, saying, `Go up and spy the land;` and the men go up and spy Ai,

³In ko se vrnejo k Jozuetu, mu reko: Naj ne hodi gori vse ljudstvo, a gre naj jih okoli dva ali tri tisoč in naj pokončajo Aj; ne pošlji tja vsega ljudstva, zakaj onih je malo.

³and they turn back unto Joshua, and say unto him, `Let not all the people go up; let about two thousand men, or about three thousand men, go up, and they smite Ai; cause not all the people to labour thither; for they [are] few.`

⁴Šlo je torej tja gori ljudstva okoli tri tisoč mož; pa so pobegnili pred možmi iz Aja.

⁴And there go up of the people thither about three thousand men, and they flee before the men of Ai,

⁵In možje iz Aja so pobili izmed njih šestintrideset mož, in so jih podili izpred vrat do Sebarima in jih pobijali, ko so navzdol bežali. In ljudstvu se je raztopilo srce in bilo je kakor voda.

⁵and the men of Ai smite of them about thirty and six men, and pursue them before the gate unto Shebarim, and they smite them in Morad; and the heart of the people is melted, and becometh water.

⁶Jozue pa si raztrga oblačila in pade z obličjem na zemljo pred skrinjo GOSPODOVO in leži do večera, on in starešine Izraelovi, in sipljejo prah na glave svoje.

⁶And Joshua rendeth his garments, and falleth on his face to the earth before the ark of Jehovah till the evening, he and the elders of Israel, and they cause dust to go up on their head.

⁷In Jozue reče: Ah, Gospod, Jehova, zakaj si vendar peljal to ljudstvo čez Jordan, da nas daš v roke Amorejcem v pogubo? O da nismo rajši ostali onostran Jordana!

⁷And Joshua saith, `Ah, Lord Jehovah, why hast Thou at all caused this people to pass over the Jordan, to give us into the hand of the Amorite to destroy us? — and oh that we had been willing — and we dwell beyond the Jordan!

⁸Oh, Gospod, kaj naj rečem, ko je Izrael zbežal pred sovražniki svojimi?

⁸Oh, Lord, what do I say, after that Israel hath turned the neck before its enemies?

⁹In slišali bodo to Kanaanci in vsi prebivalci v deželi, in nas obsujejo in iztrebijo naše ime z zemlje! In kaj storiš za veliko svoje ime?

⁹and the Canaanite and all the inhabitants of the land do hear, and have come round against us, and cut off our name out of the earth; and what dost Thou do for Thy great name?`

¹⁰In GOSPOD reče Jozuetu: Vstani! zakaj tako ležiš na obličju svojem?

¹⁰And Jehovah saith unto Joshua, `Rise for thee, why [is] this? — thou [art] falling on thy face?

¹¹Izrael je grešil, res, prestopili so zavezo mojo, ki sem jim jo zapovedal, ker so vzeli od prokletega, pa so tudi ukradli in še zatajili in tudi položili med svojo robo.

¹¹Israel hath sinned, and also they have transgressed My covenant which I commanded them, and also taken of the devoted thing, and also stolen, and also deceived, and also put [it] among their vessels,

¹²Zato ne morejo sinovi Izraelovi stati pred svojimi sovražniki, ampak bežati jim je, ker so v prokletstvu; več ne bodem z vami, dokler ne odpravite izmed sebe prokletstva.

¹²and the sons of Israel have not been able to stand before their enemies; the neck they turn before their enemies, for they have become a devoted thing; I add not to be with you — if ye destroy not the devoted thing out of your midst.

¹³Vstani, posveti ljudstvo in reci: Posvetite se za jutrišnji dan, zakaj tako pravi GOSPOD, Bog Izraelov: Stvar prokleta je med teboj, o Izrael; ne moreš stati pred svojimi sovražniki, dokler ne odpraviš prokletstva izmed sebe.

¹³`Rise, sanctify the people, and thou hast said, Sanctify yourselves for to-morrow; for thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, A devoted thing [is] in thy midst, O Israel, thou art not able to stand before thine enemies till your turning aside of the devoted thing out of your midst;

¹⁴Zjutraj torej pristopite sem po rodovih svojih, in rod, ki ga zadene GOSPOD, naj pristopi po svojih rodovinah, in rodovina, ki jo zadene GOSPOD, naj pristopi rodbina za rodbino; in rodbina, ki jo zadene GOSPOD, naj pristopi mož za možem.

¹⁴and ye have been brought near in the morning by your tribes, and it hath been, the tribe which Jehovah doth capture doth draw near by families, and the family which Jehovah doth capture doth draw near by households, and the household which Jehovah doth capture doth draw near by men;

¹⁵In kdor bo zadet v prokletstvu, bodi v ognju sežgan z vsem, kar ima, ker je prestopil zavezo GOSPODOVO in ker je nespamet storil v Izraelu.

¹⁵and it hath been, he who is captured with the devoted thing is burnt with fire, he and all that he hath, because he hath transgressed the covenant of Jehovah, and because he hath done folly in Israel.`

¹⁶Zjutraj zgodaj pa vstane Jozue in ukaže Izraelu pristopati po svojih rodovih, in zadet je bil rod Judov.

¹⁶And Joshua riseth early in the morning, and bringeth Israel near by its tribes, and the tribe of Judah is captured;

¹⁷In ukaže pristopiti rodovinam Judovim, in zadeta je bila rodovina Zerahovcev. Ko pristopi rodovina Zerahovcev, gospodar za gospodarjem, je bil zadet Zabdi.

¹⁷and he bringeth near the family of Judah, and he captureth the family of the Zarhite; and he bringeth near the family of the Zarhite by men, and Zabdi is captured;

¹⁸In ko pristopi rodbina njegova, mož za možem, je bil zadet Ahan, sin Karmija, sinu Zabdija, sinu Zerahovega, iz Judovega rodu.

¹⁸and he bringeth near his household by men, and Achan — son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah — is captured.

¹⁹In Jozue reče Ahanu: Sin moj, daj vendar slavo GOSPODU, Izraelovemu Bogu, in pripoznaj njemu, in povej mi vendar, kaj si storil? Ničesar mi ne taji!

¹⁹And Joshua saith unto Achan, `My son, put, I pray thee, honour on Jehovah, God of Israel, and give to Him thanks, and declare, I pray thee, to me, what thou hast done — hide not from me.`

²⁰Tedaj odgovori Ahan Jozuetu in reče: Resnično, pregrešil sem se zoper GOSPODA, Izraelovega Boga, in tako in tako sem storil:

²⁰And Achan answereth Joshua, and saith, `Truly I have sinned against Jehovah, God of Israel, and thus and thus I have done;

²¹videl sem med plenom dragocen babilonski plašč in dvesto seklov srebra in šibiko zlata, petdeset seklov težko, in sem se tega polakomnil ter sem vzel, in glej, zakopano je sredi mojega šatora v zemlji, in srebro je odspodaj.

²¹and I see among the spoil a goodly robe of Shinar, and two hundred shekels of silver, and one wedge of gold, whose weight [is] fifty shekels, and I desire them, and take them; and lo, they [are] hid in the earth, in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.`

²²Jozue torej pošlje sle, in teko k šatoru, in glej, skrito je bilo v njegovem šatoru, in srebro odspodaj.

²²And Joshua sendeth messengers, and they run unto the tent, and lo, it is hidden in his tent, and the silver under it;

²³In vzemo te stvari izpod šatora in prineso Jozuetu in pred vse sinove Izraelove in jih polože pred GOSPODOM.

²³and they take them out of the midst of the tent, and bring them in unto Joshua, and unto all the sons of Israel, and pour them out before Jehovah.

²⁴Jozue pa in ves Izrael ž njim vzame Ahana, sina Zerahovega, in srebro in plašč in šibiko zlata, sinove in hčere njegove, tudi vole in osle in ovce njegove, in šator njegov in vse, kar je imel, in jih peljejo gori v dolino Ahor.

²⁴And Joshua taketh Achan son of Zerah, and the silver, and the robe, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his ox, and his ass, and his flock, and his tent, and all that he hath, and all Israel with him, and they cause them to go up the valley of Achor.

²⁵In Jozue reče: Kako si nas pripravil v nesrečo! Naj te GOSPOD spravi v nesrečo ta dan! In ves Izrael ga luča s kamenjem, in sežgo jih z ognjem in jih posujejo s kamenjem.In napravijo nad njim velik kup kamenja, ki je do današnjega dne. In odvrnila se je togota jeze GOSPODOVE. Zato se imenuje tisti kraj dolina Ahor [T. j. nesreča.] do današnjega dne.

²⁵And Joshua saith, `What! thou hast troubled us! — Jehovah doth trouble thee this day;` and all Israel cast stones at him, and they burn them with fire, and they stone them with stones,

²⁶In napravijo nad njim velik kup kamenja, ki je do današnjega dne. In odvrnila se je togota jeze GOSPODOVE. Zato se imenuje tisti kraj dolina Ahor [T. j. nesreča.] do današnjega dne.

²⁶and they raise up over him a great heap of stones unto this day, and Jehovah turneth back from the heat of His anger, therefore hath [one] called the name of that place `Valley of Achor` till this day.
