¹Ti pa so narodi, ki jih je vzdržal GOSPOD, da po njih izkusi Izraela, vse, ki niso poznali vseh vojen kanaanskih,

¹And these [are] the nations which Jehovah left, to try Israel by them, all who have not known all the wars of Canaan;

²samo da jih spoznajo prihodnji rodovi Izraelovih sinov in se nauče vojske, vsaj tisti, ki niso nič tega prej spoznali:

²(only for the sake of the generations of the sons of Israel`s knowing, to teach them war, only those who formerly have not known them) —

³pet knezov Filistejcev in vse Kanaance in Sidonce in Hevejce, ki so prebivali na Libanonskem gorovju, od gore Baal-hermona do tja, kjer je vhod v Hamat.

³five princes of the Philistines, and all the Canaanite, and the Zidonian, and the Hivite inhabiting mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-Hermon unto the entering in of Hamath;

⁴Ti so ostali, da se izkusi Izrael in da se spozna, ali bodo poslušali GOSPODOVE zapovedi, ki jih je zapovedal njih očetom po Mojzesu.

⁴and they are to prove Israel by them, to know whether they obey the commands of Jehovah that He commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

⁵In sinovi Izraelovi so stanovali med Kanaanci, Hetejci, Amorejci, Ferizejci, Hevejci in Jebusejci;

⁵And the sons of Israel have dwelt in the midst of the Canaanite, the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite,

⁶in so si jemali njih hčere za žene ter dajali hčere svoje njih sinovom in služili njih bogovom.

⁶and take their daughters to them for wives, and their daughters have given to their sons, and they serve their gods;

⁷In delali so Izraelovi sinovi, kar je bilo zlo GOSPODOVIM očem, in so, pozabivši GOSPODA, Boga svojega, služili Baalom in Ašeram.

⁷and the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and forget Jehovah their God, and serve the Baalim and the shrines.

⁸Zato se je razvnela jeza GOSPODOVA zoper Izraela, in prodal jih je v roko Kušan-rišataima, kralja v Mezopotamiji; in sinovi Izraelovi so služili Kušan-rišataimu osem let.

⁸And the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He selleth them into the hand of Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram-Naharaim, and the sons of Israel serve Chushan-Rishathaim eight years;

⁹In ko so Izraelovi sinovi vpili h GOSPODU, jim je obudil rešitelja, ki jih je rešil, Otniela, sina Kenaza, Kalebovega mlajšega brata.

⁹and the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth a saviour to the sons of Israel, and he saveth them — Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb`s younger brother;

¹⁰In duh GOSPODOV je prišel nadenj, in sodil je Izraela; in odpravil se je v boj, in GOSPOD mu je dal v roko Kušan-rišataima, kralja v Mezopotamiji; in roka njegova je bila premočna Kušan-rišataimu.

¹⁰and the Spirit of Jehovah is upon him, and he judgeth Israel, and goeth out to battle, and Jehovah giveth unto his hand Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram, and strong is his hand against Chushan-Rishathaim;

¹¹In dežela je imela pokoj štirideset let. In ko je umrl Otniel, sin Kenazov,

¹¹and the land resteth forty years. And Othniel son of Kenaz dieth,

¹²so Izraelovi sinovi zopet delali, kar je bilo hudo v očeh GOSPODOVIH. In GOSPOD je ojačil Eglona, kralja Moabcev, zoper Izraela, zato ker so počenjali, kar je bilo hudo v očeh GOSPODOVIH.

¹²and the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah; and Jehovah strengtheneth Eglon king of Moab against Israel, because that they have done the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah;

¹³In zbral je k sebi Amonove sinove in Amalekovce, in gre ter udari Izraela in vzame Palmovo mesto.

¹³and he gathereth unto him the Bene-Ammon and Amalek, and goeth and smiteth Israel, and they possess the city of palms;

¹⁴In Izraelovi sinovi so služili Eglonu, moabskemu kralju, osemnajst let.

¹⁴and the sons of Israel serve Eglon king of Moab eighteen years.

¹⁵Ali ko so vpili sinovi Izraelovi h GOSPODU, jim je obudil GOSPOD rešitelja, Ehuda, Gerajevega sina, Benjaminca, čigar desna roka je bila hroma. In sinovi Izraelovi so poslali po njem darilo Eglonu, kralju Moabcev.

¹⁵And the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth to them a saviour, Ehud son of Gera, a Benjamite (a man — shut of his right hand), and the sons of Israel send by his hand a present to Eglon king of Moab;

¹⁶Tedaj si je Ehud naredil dvorezen meč majhen komolec dolg, in si ga je pripasal pod obleko ob desnem bedru.

¹⁶and Ehud maketh for himself a sword, and it hath two mouths (a cubit [is] its length), and he girdeth it under his long robe on his right thigh;

¹⁷In tako prinese darilo Eglonu, moabskemu kralju. Bil pa je Eglon silno debel mož.

¹⁷and he bringeth near the present to Eglon king of Moab, and Eglon [is] a very fat man.

¹⁸In ko izroči darilo, odpošlje ljudi, ki so nosili darilo.

¹⁸And it cometh to pass, when he hath finished to bring near the present, that he sendeth away the people bearing the present,

¹⁹Sam pa se vrne od kamenoloma pri Gilgalu in reče: Imam ti, o kralj, nekaj skrivnega povedati. On pa veli: Molči! In vsi, ki so stali pri njem, gredo ven od njega.

¹⁹and he himself hath turned back from the graven images which [are] at Gilgal, and saith, `A secret word I have unto thee, O king;` and he saith, `Hush!` and go out from him do all those standing by him.

²⁰In Ehud vstopi k njemu; on pa je sedel v gornji hladilni sobi, ki mu je bila zasebna. In Ehud reče: Besedo Božjo imam zate. In vstane s svojega stola.

²⁰And Ehud hath come unto him, and he is sitting in the upper chamber of the wall which he hath for himself, and Ehud saith, `A word of God I have unto thee;` and he riseth from off the throne;

²¹Ehud pa iztegne levo roko ter potegne meč s svojega desnega bedra in mu ga sune v trebuh,

²¹and Ehud putteth forth his left hand, and taketh the sword from off his right thigh, and striketh it into his belly;

²²da šine tudi držaj za rezilom vanj; in tolstina zadrži rezilo, ker mu ni potegnil meča iz trebuha, in ost pogleda zadaj ven.

²²and the haft also goeth in after the blade, and the fat shutteth on the blade, that he hath not drawn the sword out of his belly, and it goeth out at the fundament.

²³Nato gre Ehud ven v vežo in zapre vrata gornje sobe za seboj in jih zapahne.

²³And Ehud goeth out at the porch, and shutteth the doors of the upper chamber upon him, and hath bolted [it];

²⁴Ko pa je bil zunaj, pridejo služabniki in pogledajo, in glej, vrata so zapahnjena; in reko: Gotovo je v hladilni izbi pri svoji potrebi.

²⁴and he hath gone out, and his servants have come in, and look, and lo, the doors of the upper chamber are bolted, and they say, `He is only covering his feet in the inner chamber of the wall.`

²⁵In čakajo tako dolgo, da se že sramujejo, in glej, on ne odpre sobnih vrat; tedaj vzamejo ključ in odklenejo, in glej, njih gospod leži na tleh, mrtev.

²⁵And they stay till confounded, and lo, he is not opening the doors of the upper chamber, and they take the key, and open, and lo, their lord is fallen to the earth — dead.

²⁶Ehud pa je ušel medtem, ko so se oni mudili, in gredoč mimo kamenoloma beži do Seire.

²⁶And Ehud escaped during their tarrying, and hath passed by the images, and is escaped to Seirath.

²⁷In ko pride tja, zatrobi na trobento na Efraimskem gorovju, in Izraelovi sinovi stopijo ž njim doli z gorovja in on jim gre na čelu.

²⁷And it cometh to pass, in his coming in, that he bloweth with a trumpet in the hill-country of Ephraim, and go down with him do the sons of Israel from the hill-country, and he before them;

²⁸In jim veli: Pojdite za menoj, kajti GOSPOD vam je dal v roko sovražnike vaše, Moabce. In gredo doli za njim, in vzamejo Moabcem jordanske brodove, in ne puste nikogar čez.

²⁸and he saith unto them, `Pursue after me, for Jehovah hath given your enemies, the Moabites, into your hand;` and they go down after him, and capture the passages of the Jordan towards Moab, and have not permitted a man to pass over.

²⁹In pobijejo tisti čas Moabcev okoli deset tisoč mož, vse dobro rejene in junaške može, da ni eden ušel.

²⁹And they smite Moab at that time, about ten thousand men, all robust, and every one a man of valour, and not a man hath escaped,

³⁰Tako je bil tisti čas Moab potlačen pod roko Izraelovo. In dežela je imela pokoj osemdeset let.In po njem je bil Samgar, sin Anatov, ki je pobil šeststo Filistejcev z volovskim ostnom; in tudi on je rešil Izraela.

³⁰and Moab is humbled in that day under the hand of Israel; and the land resteth eighty years.

³¹In po njem je bil Samgar, sin Anatov, ki je pobil šeststo Filistejcev z volovskim ostnom; in tudi on je rešil Izraela.

³¹And after him hath been Shamgar son of Anath, and he smiteth the Philistines — six hundred men — with an ox-goad, and he saveth — he also — Israel.
