1O časih pa in urah, bratje, ni treba, da se vam piše;
1But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.
2zakaj sami veste natanko, da pride dan Gospodov tako kakor tat po noči.
2For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.
3Ko pravijo: Mir in varnost, tedaj jih mahoma doleti poguba, kakor porodne bolečine nosečo; in ušli ne bodo.
3For when they are saying, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.
4Vi pa, bratje, niste v temi, da vas ta dan zagrabi kakor tat;
4But you, brothers, aren’t in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.
5kajti vi vsi ste luči sinovi in sinovi dneva; nismo od noči, ne od teme.
5You are all children of light, and children of the day. We don’t belong to the night, nor to darkness,
6Zatorej ne spimo kakor drugi, marveč čujmo in trezni bodimo!
6so then let’s not sleep, as the rest do, but let’s watch and be sober.
7Zakaj speči spe po noči in tisti, ki se upijanjajo, se upijanjajo po noči.
7For those who sleep, sleep in the night, and those who are drunk are drunk in the night.
8Mi pa, ker smo od dneva, bodimo trezni, oblečeni z oklepom vere in ljubezni ter za čelado imajoč upanje zveličanja.
8But let us, since we belong to the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation.
9Kajti Bog nas ni odločil za jezo, ampak da dosežemo zveličanje po Gospodu našem Jezusu Kristusu,
9For God didn’t appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10ki je umrl za nas, da ž njim vred živimo, naj čujemo ali spimo.
10who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11Zato se opominjajte med seboj in služite drug drugemu v napredek, kakor tudi delate.
11Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.
12Prosimo pa vas, bratje, pripoznajte nje, ki se trudijo med vami in so vam predpostavljeni v Gospodu in vas svare,
12But we beg you, brothers, to know those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you,
13in jih visoko čislajte v ljubezni zavoljo njih dela. Živite v miru med seboj!
13and to respect and honor them in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
14Opominjamo pa vas, bratje, svarite neredne, prigovarjajte malodušnim, podpirajte slabotne, potrpežljivi bodite z vsemi.
14We exhort you, brothers, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient toward all.
15Glejte, da ne vrne kdo komu hudega za hudo, temuč vedno hodite za dobrim med seboj in do vseh.
15See that no one returns evil for evil to anyone, but always follow after that which is good, for one another, and for all.
16Vselej se veselite;
16Rejoice always.
17neprestano molite;
17Pray without ceasing.
18hvaležni bodite v vsem: kajti to je volja Božja v Kristusu Jezusu za vas.
18In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.
19Duha ne gasite;
19Don’t quench the Spirit.
20prorokovanj ne zaničujte.
20Don’t despise prophesies.
21Vse pa izkusite; kar je dobrega, ohranite.
21Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good.
22Vsakršnega hudega se zdržujte.
22Abstain from every form of evil.
23On pa, Bog miru, naj vas posveti popolnoma, in popoln naj se vam ohrani duh in duša in telo, da bo brez graje o prihodu Gospoda našega Jezusa Kristusa.
23May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24Zvest je, ki vas kliče, ki bo to tudi storil.
24He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.
25Bratje, molite za nas!

26Pozdravite vse brate v svetem poljubu!
26Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
