¹Čujte to besedo, žalostinko, ki jo pojem nad vami, o hiša Izraelova!

¹Listen to this word which I take up for a lamentation over you, O house of Israel.

²Padla je devica Izraelova, ne vstane več, vržena je ob tla, ni ga, ki bi jo vzdignil.

²“The virgin of Israel has fallen; She shall rise no more. She is cast down on her land; there is no one to raise her up.”

³Kajti tako pravi Gospod Jehova: Mestu, iz katerega jih je hodilo tisoč, jih preostane sto, in njemu, iz katerega jih je hodilo sto, jih preostane deset za hišo Izraelovo.

³For thus says the Lord Yahweh: “The city that went forth a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forth one hundred shall have ten left to the house of Israel.”

⁴Kajti tako pravi GOSPOD hiši Izraelovi: Iščite me, in boste živeli!

⁴For thus says Yahweh to the house of Israel: “Seek me, and you will live;

⁵In ne iščite Betela in ne hodite v Gilgal in ne zahajajte v Bersebo; kajti Gilgal bo gotovo odpeljan v sužnost in Betel pride v nič.

⁵but don’t seek Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and don’t pass to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nothing.

⁶Iščite GOSPODA, in boste živeli! Sicer pridere kakor ogenj v hišo Jožefovo in jo požre, in ne bo v Betelu nikogar, ki bi pogasil.

⁶Seek Yahweh, and you will live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, and there be no one to quench it in Bethel.

⁷Vi, ki prevračate pravico v pelin in teptate pravičnost,

⁷You who turn justice to wormwood, and cast down righteousness to the earth:

⁸iščite njega, ki je naredil gostosevce in rimščice, ki izpreminja smrtno senco v jutro in dan mrači v noč, ki kliče vode iz morja ter jih razliva po površju zemlje: Jehova je ime njegovo;

⁸seek him who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns the shadow of death into the morning, and makes the day dark with night; who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the surface of the earth, Yahweh is his name,

⁹ki spravlja naglo potrtje nad močnega, da pokončevanje nastane v trdnjavi.

⁹who brings sudden destruction on the strong, so that destruction comes on the fortress.

¹⁰Oni sovražijo njega, ki pravično razsoja med vrati, in studijo njega, ki govori o brezmadežnosti.

¹⁰They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks blamelessly.

¹¹Zatorej, ker teptate ubožca in od njega izterjavate davek od žita: sezidali ste hiše iz obdelanih kamenov, a ne boste prebivali v njih, zasadili ste krasne vinograde, a ne boste pili vina iz njih.

¹¹Forasmuch therefore as you trample on the poor, and take taxes from him of wheat: You have built houses of cut stone, but you will not dwell in them. You have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine.

¹²Vem namreč, kako obilni so prestopki vaši in kako mnogoštevilni grehi vaši – da stiskate pravičnika, jemljete podkupila in krivite pravico revežev med vrati.

¹²For I know how many your offenses, and how great are your sins— you who afflict the just, who take a bribe, and who turn aside the needy in the courts.

¹³Zato, kdor je moder, molči v tem času, ker čas je hud.

¹³Therefore a prudent person keeps silent in such a time, for it is an evil time.

¹⁴Iščite dobrega, ne pa hudega, da boste živeli; in tako bode z vami GOSPOD, Bog nad vojskami, kakor pravite.

¹⁴Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so Yahweh, the God of Armies, will be with you, as you say.

¹⁵Sovražite hudo in ljubite dobro, uveljavite pravico med vrati; morda se usmili GOSPOD, Bog nad vojskami ostanka Jožefovega.

¹⁵Hate evil, love good, and establish justice in the courts. It may be that Yahweh, the God of Armies, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.”

¹⁶Zatorej pravi tako Jehova, Bog nad vojskami, Gospod: Po vseh trgih bo plakanje; in po vseh ulicah bodo vpili: Gorje, gorje! in klicali bodo orača k žalovanju in izučene k žalovanju, naj plakajo;

¹⁶Therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of Armies, the Lord: “Wailing will be in all the broad ways; and they will say in all the streets, ‘Alas! Alas!’ and they will call the farmer to mourning, and those who are skillful in lamentation to wailing.

¹⁸Gorje vam, ki želite dneva GOSPODOVEGA! Čemu naj vam bode dan GOSPODOV? Tema bode, ne pa luč.

¹⁸“Woe to you who desire the day of Yahweh! Why do you long for the day of Yahweh? It is darkness, and not light.

¹⁹Bode, kakor če kdo beži izpred leva, pa ga sreča medved; in stopi v hišo ter se nasloni na steno z roko, in ga piči kača.

¹⁹As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; Or he went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a snake bit him.

²⁰Ne bode li dan GOSPODOV tema, ne pa luč? črn mrak, ne pa svetloba?

²⁰Won’t the day of Yahweh be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it?

²¹Sovražim, zaničujem praznike vaše in slavnostna zborovanja vaša mi niso všeč;

²¹I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can’t stand your solemn assemblies.

²²ako mi tudi darujete žgalne in jedilne dritve, mi niso prijetne, in na mirovne daritve od vaše pitane živine se ne maram ozreti.

²²Yes, though you offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals.

²³Spravi izpred mene vrišč svojih pesmi, in brenkanja tvojih strun nočem poslušati.

²³Take away from me the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.

²⁴A naj se privali pravica kakor voda in pravičnost kakor vedno tekoč potok!

²⁴But let justice roll on like rivers, and righteousness like a mighty stream.

²⁵Ali ste mi darovali v puščavi klalne in jedilne daritve štirideset let, o hiša Izraelova?

²⁵“Did you bring to me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, house of Israel?

²⁶Res, nosili ste šator svojega kralja [Ali: Moloha. Besedi „kralj“ (melek) in „Moloh“ sta si podobni.] in kip svojih malikov, zvezdo boga svojega, kar ste si naredili.Zato vas prepeljem v ujetništvo onostran Damaska, pravi GOSPOD, čigar ime Bog nad vojskami.

²⁶You also carried the tent of your king and the shrine of your images, the star of your god, which you made for yourselves.
