¹Čujte besedo GOSPODOVO, sinovi Izraelovi! Kajti GOSPOD ima pravdo s prebivalci dežele, ker ni resnice in ni usmiljenja in ni spoznanja Božjega v deželi.

¹Hear the word of Yahweh, you children of Israel; for Yahweh has a charge against the inhabitants of the land: “Indeed there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.

²Kletje je tu samo in laž in umor in tatvina in prešeštvovanje; nasilstvo počenjajo in kri za kri prelivajo.

²There is cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; they break boundaries, and bloodshed causes bloodshed.

³Zato žaluje dežela in medli vse, kar prebiva v njej, i zverine na polju i ptice pod nebom, in tudi ribe v morju ginejo.

⁴Samo da jih nihče ne dolži in nihče ne kara! Kajti z ljudstvom tvojim je kakor ž njimi, ki se prepirajo z duhovnikom.

⁵In padeš po dnevi in tudi prorok pade s teboj po noči; in uničim mater tvojo.

⁶Uničuje se ljudstvo moje, ker nima spoznanja; ker si ti zavrgel spoznanje, te tudi jaz zavržem, da mi ne bodeš duhovnik; ker si pozabil svojega Boga postavo, pozabim tudi jaz otroke tvoje.

⁶My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you may be no priest to me. Because you have forgotten your God’s law, I will also forget your children.

⁷Kolikor bolj so se množili, tem bolj so grešili zoper mene: njih slavo izpremenim v sramoto.

⁸Ljudstva mojega daritve za greh uživajo in hlepé po njega krivici.

⁸They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity.

⁹In bode kakor ljudstvo tako duhovnik; in kaznoval jih bom za njih poti in jim poplačam njih dejanja.

⁹It will be, like people, like priest; and I will punish them for their ways, and will repay them for their deeds.

¹³Po vrhovih gorá darujejo in po hribih žgo kadilo, pod hrastom in topolom in terebinto, ker je prijetna njih senca; zato nečistujejo hčere vaše in snahe vaše prešeštvujejo.

¹³They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and burn incense on the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because its shade is good. Therefore your daughters play the prostitute, and your brides commit adultery.

¹⁴Ne morem kaznovati hčeri vaših, da nečistujejo, ne snah vaših, da prešeštvujejo, ker vi sami hodite v stran z nečistnicami in darujete skup z ljubodejkami; in ljudstvo, ki je brez razuma, se pogubi.

¹⁴I will not punish your daughters when they play the prostitute, nor your brides when they commit adultery; because the men consort with prostitutes, and they sacrifice with the shrine prostitutes; so the people without understanding will come to ruin.

¹⁵Ako nečistuješ ti, Izrael, vsaj Juda naj ne greši! In ne hodite v Gilgal ter ne potujte gori v Betaven, tudi ne prisegajte: Res kakor GOSPOD živi!
