¹Videti mi je dal GOSPOD – in glej: dva koša smokev, postavljena pred tempelj GOSPODOV, potem ko je bil Nebukadnezar, kralj babilonski, odpeljal v ujetništvo Jekonija, sina Jojakima, kralja Judovega, in kneze Judove in rokodelce in kovače iz Jeruzalema in jih pripeljal v Babilon.

¹Yahweh showed me, and behold, two baskets of figs set before Yahweh’s temple, after that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the craftsmen and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.

²V enem košu so bile prav dobre smokve, kakršne so zgodnje smokve, v košu drugem pa so bile smokve prav slabe, ki jih ni moči jesti, tako so bile slabe.

²One basket had very good figs, like the figs that are first-ripe; and the other basket had very bad figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.

³In GOSPOD mi reče: Kaj vidiš Jeremija? In rečem: Smokve; dobre smokve so prav dobre, slabe pa so prav slabe, da jih ni moči jesti, tako so slabe.

³Then Yahweh said to me, What do you see, Jeremiah? I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the bad, very bad, that can’t be eaten, they are so bad.

⁴Tedaj pride beseda GOSPODOVA k meni, govoreč:

⁴The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

⁵Tako pravi GOSPOD, Bog Izraelov: Kakor tiste dobre smokve, tako bom spoznal ujetnike Judove, ki sem jih poslal iz tega kraja v deželo Kaldejsko, na dobro.

⁵Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: Like these good figs, so will I regard the captives of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, for good.

⁶Ker obrniti hočem svoje oči nanje v njih dobro, in jih nazaj pripeljem v to deželo, in jih bom zidal in ne podiral, in sadil jih bom, ne roval.

⁶For I will set my eyes on them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

⁷In dal jim bom srce, da me spoznajo, da sem GOSPOD, in bodo mi ljudstvo in jaz jim bodem Bog, ko se povrnejo k meni iz vsega srca svojega.

⁷I will give them a heart to know me, that I am Yahweh: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God; for they shall return to me with their whole heart.

⁸Kakor pa tiste slabe smokve, ki jih ni moči jesti, ker so tako slabe: res, tako pravi GOSPOD, tako izpostavim Zedekija, kralja Judovega, in kneze njegove in ostanek Jeruzalemov, kar jih je ostalo v tej deželi in kar jih prebiva v deželi Egiptovski.

⁸As the bad figs, which can’t be eaten, they are so bad, surely thus says Yahweh, So will I give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, who remain in this land, and those who dwell in the land of Egypt,

⁹Izpostavim jih, pravim, pestenju, nesreči po vseh kraljestvih zemlje, da bodo v sramoto in pregovor, v zasmehovanje in preklinjane v vseh krajih, kamor jih odženem.In pošljem nadnje meč, lakoto in kugo, dokler ne poginejo iz dežele, ki sem jo bil dal njim in njih očetom.

⁹I will even give them up to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil; to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I shall drive them.

¹⁰In pošljem nadnje meč, lakoto in kugo, dokler ne poginejo iz dežele, ki sem jo bil dal njim in njih očetom.

¹⁰I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, until they be consumed from off the land that I gave to them and to their fathers.
