¹Zgodi se pa sedmi mesec, da pride Izmael, sin Netanija, sina Elisamovega, iz kraljevega zaroda in iz kraljevih glavarjev, in deset mož ž njim h Gedaliju, sinu Ahikamovemu, v Micpo; in jedli so skupaj jed tam v Micpi.

¹Now it happened in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal and one of the chief officers of the king, and ten men with him, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they ate bread together in Mizpah.

²Vstane pa Izmael, sin Netanijev, in deseteri možje, ki so bili ž njim, in so udarili Gedalija, sina Ahikama, sinu Safanovega, z mečem in so usmrtili njega, ki ga je bil kralj babilonski postavil nad deželo.

²Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men who were with him, and struck Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.

³In vse Jude, ki so bili ž njim, z Gedalijem, v Micpi, je pobil Izmael, in tudi Kaldejce, vojščake, tam pričujoče.

³Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with him, with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who were found there, the men of war.

⁴Zgodi se pa drugi dan, odkar je usmrtil Gedalija, ko ni še nihče vedel,

⁴It happened the second day after he had killed Gedaliah, and no man knew it,

⁵da pridejo možje iz Sihema, iz Sila in iz Samarije, osemdeset mož, z obrito brado in raztrgano obleko in razpraskani, z jedilnim darom in kadilom v roki, da ga prineso v hišo GOSPODOVO.

⁵that there came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even eighty men, having their beards shaved and their clothes torn, and having cut themselves, with meal offerings and frankincense in their hand, to bring them to the house of Yahweh.

⁶In šel je Izmael, sin Netanijev, ven iz Micpe njim naproti, in gredoč je neprestano jokal, in ko jih je srečal, jim reče: Pridite h Gedaliju, sinu Ahikamovemu!

⁶Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and it happened, as he met them, he said to them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.

⁷Ali ko so prišli sredi mesta, jih umori Izmael, sin Netanijev, in jih vrže v jamo, on in možje, ki so bili ž njim.

⁷It was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah killed them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he, and the men who were with him.

⁸Desetero mož pa je bilo med njimi, ki so rekli Izmaelu: Ne usmrti nas! kajti skrite zaklade imamo na polju, pšenice in ječmena in olja in medu. Torej je odnehal in jih ni usmrtil ž njih brati vred.

⁸But ten men were found among those who said to Ishmael, Don’t kill us; for we have stores hidden in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he stopped, and didn’t kill them among their brothers.

⁹Jama pa, ki je vanjo vrgel vsa trupla mož, ki jih je bil pobil, poleg Gedalija, je bila tista, ki jo je naredil Asa v strahu pred Baasom, kraljem Izraelovim; njo je napolnil s pobitimi Izmael, sin Netanijev.

⁹Now the pit in which Ishmael cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had killed, by the side of Gedaliah (the same was who which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel), Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with those who were killed.

¹⁰In Izmael je odpeljal v ujetništvo ves ostanek ljudstva, ki je bilo v Micpi: hčere kraljeve in vse ljudstvo, kar ga je preostalo v Micpi in ki ga je izročil Nebuzaradan, glavar telesne straže, Gedaliju, sinu Ahikamovemu; nje je ujete odpeljal Izmael, sin Netanijev, ter odrinil, da bi prešel k sinom Amonovim.

¹⁰Then Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people who were in Mizpah, even the king’s daughters, and all the people who remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam; Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of Ammon.

¹¹In ko je slišal Johanan, sin Kareahov, in vsi vojaški poveljniki, ki so bili ž njim, vse tisto zlo, ki ga je napravil Izmael, sin Netanijev,

¹¹But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,

¹²skličejo vse može in odrinejo bojevat se zoper Izmaela, sina Netanijevega, ter ga zalotijo pri veliki vodi, ki je ob Gibeonu.

¹²then they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.

¹³In ko vidi vse ljudstvo, ki je bilo z Izmaelom, Johanana, sina Kareahovega, in vse vojaške poveljnike ž njim, se razveseli.

¹³Now it happened that, when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, then they were glad.

¹⁴Vse ljudstvo torej, ki ga je peljal Izmael ujeto iz Micpe, se izpremisli in se obrne in gre k Johananu, sinu Kareahovemu.

¹⁴So all the people who Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.

¹⁵Izmael pa, sin Netanijev, je zbežal z osmimi možmi izpred Johanana ter odšel k sinom Amonovim.

¹⁵But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the children of Ammon.

¹⁶Tedaj vzame Johanan, sin Kareahov, in vsi vojaški poveljniki, ki so bili ž njim, ves ostanek ljudstva, ki ga je nazaj dobil od Izmaela, sina Netanijevega, iz Micpe, – potem ko je bil ubil Gedalija, sina Ahikamovega, – in peljali so može, vojščake, in žene in otroke in komornike nazaj iz Gibeona;

¹⁶Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after that he had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon:

¹⁷in so šli ter se ustavili v prenočišču Kimhamovem, ki je blizu Betlehema, da bi se napotili in odšli v Egiptzavoljo Kaldejcev, ker so se jih bali, zato ker je Izmael, sin Netanijev, umoril Gedalija, sina Ahikamovega, ki ga je bil kralj babilonski postavil nad deželo.

¹⁷and they departed, and lived in Geruth Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt,

¹⁸zavoljo Kaldejcev, ker so se jih bali, zato ker je Izmael, sin Netanijev, umoril Gedalija, sina Ahikamovega, ki ga je bil kralj babilonski postavil nad deželo.

¹⁸because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor over the land.
