¹Beseda, ki jo je govoril Jeremija prorok Baruhu, sinu Nerijevemu, ko je pisal v knjigo te besede iz ust Jeremijevih, v četrtem letu Jojakima, sinu Josijevega, kralja Judovega, rekoč:

¹The message that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch the son of Neriah, when he wrote these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

²Tako pravi GOSPOD, Bog Izraelov, zastran tebe, Baruh:

²Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, to you, Baruch:

³Ti govoriš: Gorje meni! ker GOSPOD je pridel togo žalosti moji; utrujen sem v zdihovanju svojem in ne najdem pokoja.

³You said, Woe is me now! for Yahweh has added sorrow to my pain; I am weary with my groaning, and I find no rest.

⁴Tako mu boš govoril: Glej, kar sem sezidal, podiram, in kar sem vsadil, rujem, in to po vsej deželi.In ti bi iskal sebi velikih reči? Ne išči jih! zakaj, glej, jaz pripeljem nesrečo nad vse meso, govori GOSPOD; tebi pa dam dušo tvojo za plen v vseh krajih, kamorkoli pojdeš.

⁴You shall tell him, Thus says Yahweh: Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up; and this in the whole land.

⁵In ti bi iskal sebi velikih reči? Ne išči jih! zakaj, glej, jaz pripeljem nesrečo nad vse meso, govori GOSPOD; tebi pa dam dušo tvojo za plen v vseh krajih, kamorkoli pojdeš.

⁵Do you seek great things for yourself? Don’t seek them; for, behold, I will bring evil on all flesh, says Yahweh; but your life will I give to you for a prey in all places where you go.
