¹O da bi dosti imel vode v glavi in oči da bi mi bile studenci solzá, da bi objokoval noč in dan prebodence ljudstva svojega hčere!

¹Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a spring of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

²O kdo bi me postavil v puščavo, v prenočišče popotnikov, da zapustim ljudstvo svoje in odidem od njih! Zakaj vsi so prešeštniki, skupščina nezvestnikov.

²Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.

³In jezik svoj napenjajo kakor lok za laž; v deželi so se utrdili, a ne v prid resnici, kajti od hudobije hite do hudobije in mene ne spoznajo, govori GOSPOD.

³They bend their tongue, as their bow, for falsehood; and they are grown strong in the land, but not for truth: for they proceed from evil to evil, and they don’t know me, says Yahweh.

⁴Vsak se varuj svojega prijatelja in nobenemu bratu ne upajte, zakaj vsak hoče lokavo izpodriniti drugega in vsak prijatelj hodi z natolcevanjem.

⁴Take heed everyone of his neighbor, and don’t trust in any brother; for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will go about with slanders.

⁵In vsak vara prijatelja svojega in resnice ne govore; jezik svoj uče govoriti laž, učijo se delati krivo.

⁵They will deceive everyone his neighbor, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies; they weary themselves to commit iniquity.

⁶Tvoje prebivališče je sredi zvijače; zaradi zvijače se branijo spoznati me, govori GOSPOD.

⁶Your habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, says Yahweh.

⁷Zatorej pravi tako GOSPOD nad vojskami: Glej, jaz jih bom topil in jih preizkušal; kajti kako naj bi drugače delal zavoljo hčere ljudstva svojega?

⁷Therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how should I deal with the daughter of my people?

⁸Pšica moreča je njih jezik; zvijačo govore; z usti govori mir prijatelj s prijateljem, ali v srcu svojem preži nanj.

⁸Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks deceit: one speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart he lays wait for him.

⁹Ali bi jih ne obiskal zavoljo tega? govori GOSPOD; ali bi se nad takim narodom ne maščevala duša moja?

⁹Shall I not visit them for these things? says Yahweh; shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

¹⁰Zavoljo teh gorá napravim jok in žalovanje in zavoljo pašnikov v puščavi tožbo; kajti požgani so tako, da nihče ne hodi mimo in ni slišati glasu živine: ptice nebeške in goveda so zbežala, odšla.

¹⁰For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the pastures of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none passes through; neither can men hear the voice of the livestock; both the birds of the sky and the animals are fled, they are gone.

¹¹In iz Jeruzalema naredim groblje, prebivališče šakalov, in iz mest Judovih naredim puščavo, da nihče ne bo prebival v njih.

¹¹I will make Jerusalem heaps, a dwelling place of jackals; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

¹²Kdo je tisti modri mož, ki bi to razumel? in komu so govorila usta GOSPODOVA, da bi oznanjal to? Zakaj je ta dežela pokončana in požgana kakor puščava, da nihče ne hodi po njej?

¹²Who is the wise man, that may understand this? Who is he to whom the mouth of Yahweh has spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land perished and burned up like a wilderness, so that none passes through?

¹³In GOSPOD je rekel: Ker so zapustili postavo mojo, ki sem jo jim bil razložil, in niso poslušali glasu mojega in niso hodili po njej,

¹³Yahweh says, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein,

¹⁴ampak so šli po trmi srca svojega in za Baali, kar so jih učili njih očetje:

¹⁴but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after the Baals, which their fathers taught them;

¹⁵zatorej pravi tako GOSPOD nad vojskami, Bog Izraelov: Glej, jaz jih bom, to ljudstvo, sitil s pelinom in jim piti dajal sok trobelični;

¹⁵therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.

¹⁶in razkropim jih med narode, ki jih niso ne sami, ne njih očetje poznali, in za njimi pošljem meč, dokler jih ne pokončam.

¹⁶I will scatter them also among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them.

¹⁷Tako pravi GOSPOD nad vojskami: Pazite in pokličite žene žalovalke, da pridejo, in k modrim ženam pošljite, da pridejo,

¹⁷Thus says Yahweh of Armies, Consider, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for the skillful women, that they may come:

¹⁸in urno naj zaženo žalovanje o nas, da bi nam kapljale solze iz oči in s trepalnic naših tekla voda.

¹⁸and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.

¹⁹Kajti žalovanja glas se sliši s Siona: Kako smo opustošeni! silno smo osramočeni, zakaj bilo nam je zapustiti deželo, ker so nam podrli domovališča.

¹⁹For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we ruined! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.

²⁰Poslušajte torej, žene, besedo GOSPODOVO in uho vaše naj sprejme besedo njegovih ust, in učite žalovati hčere svoje in druga drugo peti žalostinke.

²⁰Yet hear the word of Yahweh, you women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth; and teach your daughters wailing, and everyone her neighbor lamentation.

²¹Zakaj smrt je k nam prilezla skozi okna, prišla je v palače naše, da pokonča otroke z ulic in mladeniče s trgov.

²¹For death has come up into our windows, it is entered into our palaces; to cut off the children from outside, and the young men from the streets.

²²Govóri: Tako pravi GOSPOD: Trupla človeška bodo ležala kakor gnoj na polju in kakor snopki za ženjci, in nihče jih ne bo pobiral.

²²Speak, Thus says Yahweh, The dead bodies of men shall fall as dung on the open field, and as the handful after the harvester; and none shall gather them.

²³Tako pravi GOSPOD: Ne hvali se modri z modrostjo svojo, in ne hvali se mogočni z mogočnostjo svojo, tudi ne bogati z bogastvom svojim;

²³Thus says Yahweh, Don’t let the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, don’t let the rich man glory in his riches;

²⁴ampak s tem se naj hvali, kdor se hvali, da ume in spozna mene, da sem jaz GOSPOD, ki delam milost, sodbo in pravičnost na zemlji; kajti to mi je po volji, govori GOSPOD.

²⁴but let him who glories glory in this, that he has understanding, and knows me, that I am Yahweh who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, says Yahweh.

²⁵Glej, dnevi pridejo, govori GOSPOD, ko obiščem vse obrezane v njih neobrezi:Egipčane in Jude in Edomce in sinove Amonove in Moabce ter vse, ki so ostriženi ob krajih glave, ki prebivajo v puščavi; kajti vsi poganski narodi so neobrezani, vsa hiša Izraelova pa je neobrezanega srca.

²⁵Behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will punish all those who are circumcised in uncircumcision:

²⁶Egipčane in Jude in Edomce in sinove Amonove in Moabce ter vse, ki so ostriženi ob krajih glave, ki prebivajo v puščavi; kajti vsi poganski narodi so neobrezani, vsa hiša Izraelova pa je neobrezanega srca.

²⁶Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that have the corners of their hair cut off, who dwell in the wilderness; for all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart.
