¹In poten je Jezus hodil po Galileji; kajti po Judeji ni hotel hoditi, ker so Judje gledali, da bi ga umorili.

¹After these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he wouldn’t walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

²Bil je pa blizu judovski praznik šatorov.

²Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was at hand.

³Zato mu reko bratje njegovi: Idi odtod in pojdi v Judejo, da tudi učenci tvoji vidijo dela tvoja, ki jih delaš.

³His brothers therefore said to him, “Depart from here, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.

⁴Zakaj nihče, ki hoče biti javno poznan, ne dela ničesar na skrivnem. Če take reči delaš, pokaži se svetu.

⁴For no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world.”

⁵Tudi bratje njegovi namreč niso verovali vanj.

⁵For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.

⁶Reče jim torej Jezus: Moj čas še ni prišel; vaš čas pa je vsekdar prikladen.

⁶Jesus therefore said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.

⁷Vas ne more svet sovražiti; mene pa sovraži, ker jaz pričujem o njem, da so dela njegova hudobna.

⁷ The world can’t hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.

⁸Vi pojdite na praznik; jaz še ne grem na ta praznik, ker se moj čas še ni dopolnil.

⁸ You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled.”

⁹In ko jim je to povedal, je ostal v Galileji.

⁹Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee.

¹⁰Ko so pa bratje njegovi odšli na praznik, tedaj odide tudi on, ne očitno, temuč kakor skrivaj.

¹⁰But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.

¹¹Judje so ga torej iskali ob prazniku in govorili: Kje je tisti?

¹¹The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, “Where is he?”

¹²In bilo je dosti govorjenja o njem med množicami. Nekateri so pravili: Dober je; drugi pa so trdili: Ne, ampak ljudstvo slepari.

¹²There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others said, “Not so, but he leads the multitude astray.”

¹³Vendar pa nihče ni očitno govoril o njem zavoljo strahu pred Judi.

¹³Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.

¹⁴Ko je pa minilo že pol praznika, vstopi Jezus v tempelj in uči.

¹⁴But when it was now the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.

¹⁵In Judje se čudijo ter pravijo: Kako je ta učen v pismih, ko se ni šolal?

¹⁵The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How does this man know letters, having never been educated?”

¹⁶Odgovori jim torej Jezus in reče: Moj nauk ni moj, ampak tega, ki me je poslal.

¹⁶Jesus therefore answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.

¹⁷Če hoče kdo njegovo voljo izpolnjevati, razpozna, je li ta nauk iz Boga ali če jaz sam od sebe govorim.

¹⁷ If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself.

¹⁸Kdor govori sam od sebe, išče lastne slave; kdor pa išče slave tega, ki ga je poslal, ta je resničen in nepravičnosti ni v njem.

¹⁸ He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

¹⁹Vam li ni Mojzes dal postave? In vendar nihče iz vas ne izpolnjuje postave. Zakaj gledate, da bi me umorili?

¹⁹ Didn’t Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?”

²⁰Ljudstvo odgovori: Hudiča imaš! Kdo gleda, da bi te umoril?

²⁰The multitude answered, “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?”

²¹Jezus odgovori in jim reče: Eno delo sem storil, in vsi se čudite temu.

²¹Jesus answered them, “I did one work, and you all marvel because of it.

²²Mojzes vam je dal obrezo (ne da se je od Mojzesa začela, ampak od očakov), in v soboto obrezujete človeka.

²² Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.

²³Če prejme človek obrezo v soboto, da se ne prelomi postava Mojzesova, zakaj se nad menoj hudujete, da sem celega človeka ozdravil v soboto?

²³ If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath?

²⁴Ne sodite po licu, ampak sodite pravično sodbo!

²⁴ Don’t judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”

²⁵Tedaj reko nekateri izmed Jeruzalemcev: Ali ni ta tisti, ki gledajo, da bi ga umorili?

²⁵Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this he whom they seek to kill?

²⁶In glejte, očitno govori in nič mu ne reko. Ali so mar poglavarji v resnici spoznali, da je ta Kristus?

²⁶Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ?

²⁷Toda za tega vemo, odkod je; za Kristusa pa, kadar pride, ne bo nihče vedel, odkod je.

²⁷However we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from.”

²⁸Jezus torej zakliče, učeč v templju, in reče: Poznate me in tudi veste, odkod sem; in sam od sebe nisem prišel: je pa resničen, ki me je poslal, katerega vi ne poznate.

²⁸Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don’t know.

²⁹Jaz ga poznam, ker sem od njega, in on me je poslal.

²⁹ I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”

³⁰Gledali so torej, da bi ga zgrabili; ali nihče ni položil nanj roke, ker ura njegov še ni bila prišla.

³⁰They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

³¹Mnogi pa izmed ljudstva so sprejeli vero vanj; in so govorili: Ali bo Kristus, kadar pride več čudežev storil, nego jih je ta storil?

³¹But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, “When the Christ comes, he won’t do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?”

³²Farizeji zaslišijo, da si ljudstvo to o njem šepeče; in višji duhovniki in farizeji pošljejo služabnike, naj ga ujemo.

³²The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.

³³Reče torej Jezus: Še malo časa sem z vami, in pojdem k temu, ki me je poslal.

³³Then Jesus said, “I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.

³⁴Iskali me boste, a me ne najdete; in kjer sem jaz, tja vi ne morete priti.

³⁴ You will seek me, and won’t find me; and where I am, you can’t come.”

³⁵Tedaj reko Judje med seboj: Kam pojde ta, da ga mi ne najdemo? Ali pojde k tem, ki so razkropljeni med Grki, in bo učil Grke?

³⁵The Jews therefore said among themselves, “Where will this man go that we won’t find him? Will he go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

³⁶Kakšna je ta beseda, ki jo je rekel: Iskali me boste, a me ne najdete, in kjer sem jaz, vi ne morete priti?

³⁶What is this word that he said, ‘You will seek me, and won’t find me; and where I am, you can’t come’? ”

³⁷A poslednji veliki dan praznika je stal Jezus in klical, rekoč: Če je kdo žejen, naj pride k meni in pije.

³⁷Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!

³⁸Kdor veruje v mene, kakor pravi pismo, reke žive vode poteko iz telesa njegovega.

³⁸ He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.”

³⁹To je pa rekel o Duhu, ki so ga imeli prejeti ti, ki so verovali vanj; Duh namreč še ni bil dan, ker Jezus še ni bil oslavljen.

³⁹But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn’t yet glorified.

⁴⁰Nekateri iz množice, čujoč te besede, reko torej: Ta je zares prorok.

⁴⁰Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, “This is truly the prophet.”

⁴¹Drugi pravijo: Ta je Kristus. Drugi pa govore: Ali pride Kristus iz Galileje?

⁴¹Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “What, does the Christ come out of Galilee?

⁴²Ali ne pravi pismo, da pride Kristus iz semena Davidovega in iz trga Betlehema, kjer je bil David?

⁴²Hasn’t the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, 2 Samuel 7:12 and from Bethlehem, Micah 5:2 the village where David was?”

⁴³Nastane torej razpor med ljudstvom zaradi njega.

⁴³So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.

⁴⁴A nekateri izmed njih so ga hoteli zgrabiti; pa nihče ni položil nanj rok.

⁴⁴Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.

⁴⁵In služabniki pridejo k višjim duhovnikom in farizejem; in ti jim reko: Zakaj ga niste pripeljali?

⁴⁵The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him?”

⁴⁶Služabniki odgovore: Nikoli noben človek ni tako govoril.

⁴⁶The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this man!”

⁴⁷Farizeji pa jim odgovore: Ali ste tudi vi zapeljani?

⁴⁷The Pharisees therefore answered them, “You aren’t also led astray, are you?

⁴⁸Je li kdo izmed prvakov sprejel vero vanj, ali izmed farizejev?

⁴⁸Have any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees?

⁴⁹Ampak ta druhal, ki ne pozna zakona; prokleti so!

⁴⁹But this multitude that doesn’t know the law is accursed.”

⁵⁰Reče jim Nikodem, ki je bil prej prišel k njemu in je bil eden izmed njih:

⁵⁰Nicodemus (he who came to him by night, being one of them) said to them,

⁵¹Ali postava naša sodi človeka, če ga prej ne zaslišijo in se ne izve, kaj dela?

⁵¹“Does our law judge a man, unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?”

⁵²Odgovore in mu reko: Si li mar tudi ti iz Galileje? Preišči in poglej, da iz Galileje ne vstane noben prorok. [In odidejo vsak na svoj dom.

⁵²They answered him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee. See Isaiah 9:1 and Matthew 4:13-16. ”
