1But say the things which fit sound doctrine,
2Starci da naj bodo trezni, resnobni, zmerni, zdravi v veri, ljubezni, stanovitnosti;
2that older men should be temperate, sensible, sober minded, sound in faith, in love, and in patience:
3starke enako, da so v vedenju, kakor se svetim spodobi, ne obrekljive, ne mnogopitju vdane, dobrega učiteljice,
3and that older women likewise be reverent in behavior, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good;
4da napeljavajo k redu mlajše žene, naj ljubijo može in otroke svoje
4that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
5in naj bodo zmerne, čiste, pridne gospodinje, dobrotljive, pokorne svojim možem, da se ne preklinja Božja beseda.
5to be sober minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that God’s word may not be blasphemed.
6Mlajše može istotako opominjaj, da naj bodo zmerni;
6Likewise, exhort the younger men to be sober minded;
7stavi sebe v vseh rečeh za zgled dobrih del, v uku tvojem naj se kaže čistost, dostojnost,
7in all things showing yourself an example of good works; in your teaching showing integrity, seriousness, incorruptibility,
8zdrava beseda, ki se ne more zavreči, da se nasprotnik osramoti, ker nima kaj slabega reči o nas.
8and soundness of speech that can’t be condemned; that he who opposes you may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say about us.
9Hlapce opominjaj, naj bodo pokorni svojim gospodarjem, v vsem jim pogodu, naj ne ugovarjajo,
9Exhort servants to be in subjection to their own masters, and to be well-pleasing in all things; not contradicting;
10ničesar ne izmikajo, ampak kažejo v vsem največjo zvestobo, da tako lepšajo nauk Rešitelja našega Boga v vsem.
10not stealing, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God, our Savior, in all things.
11Kajti prikazala se je milost Božja zveličalna vsem ljudem,
11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
12učeč nas, da se odpovejmo brezbožnosti in posvetnim poželenjem ter živimo zmerno in pravično in pobožno v sedanjem svetu,
12instructing us to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we would live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world;
13čakajoč blaženega upanja in prikazni slave velikega Boga in Zveličarja našega Jezusa Kristusa,
13looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ;
14ki je dal samega sebe za nas, da bi nas rešil sleherne nepostavnosti in očistil sebi za lastno ljudstvo, goreče za vsa dobra dela.To govóri in opominjaj in svari z vsem poudarkom. Nihče naj te ne zaničuje!
14who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works.

15Say these things and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no man despise you.
