¹А Елифас Теманац одговори и рече:

¹Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,

²Хоће ли мудар човек казивати празне мисли и пунити трбух ветром источним,

²Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?

³Препирући се говором који не помаже и речима које нису ни на шта?

³Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?

⁴А ти уништаваш страх Божји и укидаш молитве к Богу.

⁴Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.

⁵Јер безакоње твоје показују уста твоја, ако и јеси изабрао језик лукав.

⁵For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.

⁶Осуђују те уста твоја, а не ја; и усне твоје сведоче на те.

⁶Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.

⁷Јеси ли се ти први човек родио? Или си пре хумова саздан?

⁷Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?

⁸Јеси ли тајну Божију чуо и покупио у себе мудрост?

⁸Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?

⁹Шта ти знаш што ми не бисмо знали? Шта ти разумеш што не би било у нас?

⁹What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?

¹⁰И седих и старих људи има међу нама, старијих од оца твог.

¹⁰With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.

¹¹Мале ли су ти утехе Божије? Или имаш шта сакривено у себи?

¹¹Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?

¹²Што те је занело срце твоје? И што севају очи твоје,

¹²Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,

¹³Те обраћаш против Бога дух свој и пушташ из уста својих такве речи?

¹³That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?

¹⁴Шта је човек, да би био чист, и рођени од жене, да би био прав?

¹⁴What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

¹⁵Гле, не верује свецима својим, и небеса нису чиста пред очима Његовим;

¹⁵Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.

¹⁶А камоли гадни и смрдљиви човек, који пије неправду као воду?

¹⁶How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?

¹⁷Ја ћу ти казати, послушај ме, и приповедићу ти шта сам видео,

¹⁷I will shew thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;

¹⁸Шта мудраци казаше и не затајише, шта примише од отаца својих,

¹⁸Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:

¹⁹Којима самим дана би земља, и туђин не прође кроз њу.

¹⁹Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.

²⁰Безбожник се мучи свега века свог, и насилнику је мало година остављено.

²⁰The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.

²¹Страх му зуји у ушима, у мирно доба напада пустошник на њ.

²¹A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.

²²Не верује да ће се вратити из таме, одсвуда привиђа мач.

²²He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.

²³Тумара за хлебом говорећи: Где је? Зна да је за њ спремљен дан тамни.

²³He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.

²⁴Туга и невоља страше га, и наваљују на њ као цар готов на бој.

²⁴Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.

²⁵Јер је замахнуо на Бога руком својом, и Свемогућем се опро.

²⁵For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.

²⁶Трчи исправљена врата на њ с многим високим штитовима својим.

²⁶He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:

²⁷Јер је покрио лице своје претилином, и наваљао сало на бокове своје.

²⁷Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.

²⁸И седео је у градовима раскопаним и у кућама пустим, обраћеним у гомилу камења.

²⁸And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.

²⁹Неће се обратити нити ће остати благо његово, и неће се раширити по земљи добро његово.

²⁹He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.

³⁰Неће изаћи из мрака, огранке његове осушиће пламен, однеће га дух уста његових.

³⁰He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.

³¹Нека се не узда у таштину преварени, јер ће му таштина бити плата.

³¹Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.

³²Пре свог времена свршиће се, и грана његова неће зеленети.

³²It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.

³³Откинуће се као с лозе незрео грозд његов и пупци ће се његови као с маслине побацати.

³³He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.

³⁴Јер ће опустети збор лицемерски, и огањ ће спалити шаторе оних који примају поклоне.

³⁴For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.

³⁵Зачињу невољу и рађају муку, и трбух њихов саставља превару.

³⁵They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.
