1Till de äldste bland eder ställer jag nu denna förmaning, jag som själv är en av de äldste och en som vittnar om Kristi lidanden, och som jämväl har del i den härlighet som kommer att uppenbaras:
1Elders who [are] among you, I exhort, who [am] a fellow-elder, and a witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and of the glory about to be revealed a partaker,
2Varen herdar för Guds hjord, som I haven i eder vård, varen det icke av tvång, utan av fri vilja, icke för slem vinnings skull, utan med villigt hjärta.
2feed the flock of God that [is] among you, overseeing not constrainedly, but willingly, neither for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind,
3Uppträden icke såsom herrar över edra församlingar, utan bliven föredömen för hjorden.
3neither as exercising lordship over the heritages, but patterns becoming of the flock,
4Då skolen I, när Överherden uppenbaras, undfå härlighetens oförvissneliga segerkrans.
4and at the manifestation of the chief Shepherd, ye shall receive the unfading crown of glory.
5Så skolen I ock, I yngre, å eder sida underordna eder de äldre. Ikläden eder alla, i umgängelsen med varandra, ödmjukheten såsom en tjänardräkt. Ty »Gud står emot de högmodiga, men de ödmjuka giver han nåd».
5In like manner, ye younger, be subject to elders, and all to one another subjecting yourselves; with humble-mindedness clothe yourselves, because God the proud doth resist, but to the humble He doth give grace;
6Ödmjuken eder alltså under Guds mäktiga hand, för att han må upphöja eder i sinom tid.
6be humbled, then, under the powerful hand of God, that you He may exalt in good time,
7Och »kasten alla edra bekymmer på honom», ty han har omsorg om eder.
7all your care having cast upon Him, because He careth for you.
8Varen nyktra och vaken. Eder vedersakare, djävulen, går omkring såsom ett rytande lejon och söker vem han må uppsluka.
8Be sober, vigilant, because your opponent the devil, as a roaring lion, doth walk about, seeking whom he may swallow up,
9Stån honom emot, fasta i tron, och veten att samma lidanden vederfaras edra bröder här i världen.
9whom resist, stedfast in the faith, having known the same sufferings to your brotherhood in the world to be accomplished.
10Men all nåds Gud, som har kallat eder till sin eviga härlighet i Kristus, sedan I en liten tid haven lidit, han skall fullkomna, stödja, styrka och stadfästa eder.
10And the God of all grace, who did call you to His age-during glory in Christ Jesus, having suffered a little, Himself make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle [you];
11Honom tillhör väldet i evigheternas evigheter. Amen.
11to Him [is] the glory, and the power — to the ages and the ages! Amen.
12Genom Silvanus, eder trogne broder -- för en sådan håller jag honom nämligen -- har jag nu i korthet skrivit detta, för att förmana eder, och för att betyga att den nåd I stån i är Guds rätta nåd.
12Through Silvanus, to you the faithful brother, as I reckon, through few [words] I did write, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God in which ye have stood.
13Församlingen i Babylon, utvald likasom eder församling, hälsar eder. Så gör ock min son Markus.
13Salute you doth the [assembly] in Babylon jointly elected, and Markus my son.
14Hälsen varandra med en kärlekens kyss. Frid vare med eder alla som ären i Kristus.
14Salute ye one another in a kiss of love; peace to you all who [are] in Christ Jesus! Amen.
