¹Men apostlarna och de bröder som voro i Judeen fingo höra att också hedningarna hade tagit emot Guds ord.

¹And the apostles and the brethren who are in Judea heard that also the nations did receive the word of God,

²När så Petrus kom upp till Jerusalem, begynte de som voro omskurna gå till rätta med honom;

²and when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision were contending with him,

³de sade: »Du har ju besökt oomskurna män och ätit med dem.»

³saying — `Unto men uncircumcised thou didst go in, and didst eat with them!`

⁴Då begynte Petrus från början och omtalade för dem allt i följd och ordning; han sade:

⁴And Peter having begun, did expound to them in order saying,

⁵»Jag var i staden Joppe, stadd i bön; då såg jag under hänryckning i en syn någonting komma ned, som liknade en stor linneduk, vilken fasthölls vid de fyra hörnen och sänktes ned från himmelen; och det kom ända ned till mig.

⁵`I was in the city of Joppa praying, and I saw in a trance a vision, a certain vessel coming down, as a great sheet by four corners being let down out of the heaven, and it came unto me;

⁶Och jag betraktade det och gav akt därpå; då fick jag däri se fyrfota djur, sådana som leva på jorden, tama och vilda, så ock krälande djur och himmelens fåglar.

⁶at which having looked stedfastly, I was considering, and I saw the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of heaven;

⁷Jag hörde ock en röst säga till mig: 'Stå upp, Petrus, slakta och ät.'

⁷and I heard a voice saying to me, Having risen, Peter, slay and eat;

⁸Men jag svarade: 'Bort det, Herre! Aldrig har något oheligt eller orent kommit i min mun.'

⁸and I said, Not so, Lord; because anything common or unclean hath at no time entered into my mouth;

⁹För andra gången talade en röst från himmelen: 'Vad Gud har förklarat för rent, det må du icke hålla för oheligt.'

⁹and a voice did answer me a second time out of the heaven, What God did cleanse, thou — declare not thou common.

¹⁰Detta skedde tre gånger efter varandra; sedan drogs alltsammans åter upp till himmelen.

¹⁰`And this happened thrice, and again was all drawn up to the heaven,

¹¹Och i detsamma kommo tre män, som hade blivit sända till mig från Cesarea, och stannade framför huset där vi voro.

¹¹and, lo, immediately, three men stood at the house in which I was, having been sent from Cesarea unto me,

¹²Och Anden sade till mig att jag skulle följa med dem, utan att göra någon åtskillnad mellan folk och folk. Också de sex bröder som äro här kommo med mig; och vi gingo in i mannens hus.

¹²and the Spirit said to me to go with them, nothing doubting, and these six brethren also went with me, and we did enter into the house of the man,

¹³Och han berättade för oss huru han hade sett ängeln träda in i hans hus, och att denne hade sagt: 'Sänd åstad till Joppe och låt hämta Simon, som ock kallas Petrus.

¹³he declared also to us how he saw the messenger in his house standing, and saying to him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter,

¹⁴Han skall tala till dig ord genom vilka du skall bliva frälst, du själv och hela ditt hus.'

¹⁴who shall speak sayings by which thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house.

¹⁵Och när jag hade begynt tala, föll den helige Ande på dem, alldeles såsom det under den första tiden skedde med oss.

¹⁵`And in my beginning to speak, the Holy Spirit did fall upon them, even as also upon us in the beginning,

¹⁶Då kom jag ihåg Herrens ord, huru han hade sagt: 'Johannes döpte med vatten, men I skolen bliva döpta i helig ande.'

¹⁶and I remembered the saying of the Lord, how he said, John indeed did baptize with water, and ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit;

¹⁷Då alltså Gud åt dem hade givit samma gåva som åt oss, som hava kommit till tro på Herren Jesus Kristus, huru skulle då jag hava kunnat sätta mig emot Gud?»

¹⁷if then the equal gift God did give to them as also to us, having believed upon the Lord Jesus Christ, I — how was I able to withstand God?`

¹⁸När de hade hört detta, gåvo de sig till freds och prisade Gud och sade: »Så har då Gud också åt hedningarna förlänat den bättring som för till liv.»

¹⁸And they, having heard these things, were silent, and were glorifying God, saying, `Then, indeed, also to the nations did God give the reformation to life.`

¹⁹De som hade blivit kringspridda genom den förföljelse som utbröt för Stefanus' skull drogo emellertid omkring ända till Fenicien och Cypern och Antiokia, men förkunnade icke ordet för andra än för judar.

¹⁹Those, indeed, therefore, having been scattered abroad, from the tribulation that came after Stephen, went through unto Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to none except to Jews only;

²⁰Dock funnos bland dem några män från Cypern och Cyrene, som när de kommo till Antiokia, också talade till grekerna och för dem förkunnade evangelium om Herren Jesus.

²⁰and there were certain of them men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who having entered into Antioch, were speaking unto the Hellenists, proclaiming good news — the Lord Jesus,

²¹Och Herrens hand var med dem, och en stor skara kom till tro och omvände sig till Herren.

²¹and the hand of the Lord was with them, a great number also, having believed, did turn unto the Lord.

²²Ryktet härom nådde församlingen i Jerusalem; och de sände då Barnabas till Antiokia.

²²And the account was heard in the ears of the assembly that [is] in Jerusalem concerning them, and they sent forth Barnabas to go through unto Antioch,

²³När han kom dit och fick se vad Guds nåd hade verkat, blev han glad och förmanade dem alla att med hjärtats fasta föresats stadigt hålla sig till Herren.

²³who, having come, and having seen the grace of God, was glad, and was exhorting all with purpose of heart to cleave to the Lord,

²⁴Ty han var en god man och full av helig ande och tro. Och ganska mycket folk blev ytterligare fört till Herren.

²⁴because he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit, and of faith, and a great multitude was added to the Lord.

²⁵Sedan begav han sig åstad till Tarsus för att uppsöka Saulus.

²⁵And Barnabas went forth to Tarsus, to seek for Saul,

²⁶Och när han hade träffat honom, tog han honom med sig till Antiokia. Ett helt år hade de sedan sin umgängelse inom församlingen och undervisade ganska mycket folk. Och det var i Antiokia som lärjungarna först begynte kallas »kristna».

²⁶and having found him, he brought him to Antioch, and it came to pass that they a whole year did assemble together in the assembly, and taught a great multitude, the disciples also were divinely called first in Antioch Christians.

²⁷Vid den tiden kommo några profeter från Jerusalem ned till Antiokia.

²⁷And in those days there came from Jerusalem prophets to Antioch,

²⁸Och en av dem, vid namn Agabus, trädde upp och gav genom Andens ingivelse till känna att en stor hungersnöd skulle komma över hela världen; den kom också på Klaudius' tid.

²⁸and one of them, by name Agabus, having stood up, did signify through the Spirit a great dearth is about to be throughout all the world — which also came to pass in the time of Claudius Caesar —

²⁹Då bestämde lärjungarna att de, var och en efter sin förmåga, skulle sända något till understöd åt de bröder som bodde i Judeen.

²⁹and the disciples, according as any one was prospering, determined each of them to send for ministration to the brethren dwelling in Judea,

³⁰Detta gjorde de också, och genom Barnabas och Saulus översände de det till de äldste.

³⁰which also they did, having sent unto the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
