¹I den församling som fanns i Antiokia verkade nu såsom profeter och lärare Barnabas och Simeon, som kallades Niger, och Lucius från Cyrene, så ock Manaen, landsfursten Herodes' fosterbroder, och Saulus.

¹And there were certain in Antioch, in the assembly there, prophets and teachers; both Barnabas, and Simeon who is called Niger, and Lucius the Cyrenian, Manaen also — Herod the tetrarch`s foster-brother — and Saul;

²När dessa förrättade Herrens tjänst och fastade, sade den helige Ande: »Avskiljen åt mig Barnabas och Saulus för det verk som jag har kallat dem till.»

²and in their ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, `Separate ye to me both Barnabas and Saul to the work to which I have called them,`

³Då fastade de och bådo och lade händerna på dem och läto dem begiva sig åstad.

³then having fasted, and having prayed, and having laid the hands on them, they sent [them] away.

⁴Dessa, som så hade blivit utsända av den helige Ande, foro nu ned till Seleucia och seglade därifrån till Cypern.

⁴These, indeed, then, having been sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia, thence also they sailed to Cyprus,

⁵Och när de hade kommit till Salamis, förkunnade de Guds ord i judarnas synagogor. De hade också med sig Johannes såsom tjänare.

⁵and having come unto Salamis, they declared the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews, and they had also John [as] a ministrant;

⁶Och sedan de hade färdats över hela ön ända till Pafos, träffade de där på en judisk trollkarl och falsk profet, vid namn Barjesus,

⁶and having gone through the island unto Paphos, they found a certain magian, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name [is] Bar-Jesus;

⁷som vistades hos landshövdingen Sergius Paulus. Denne var en förståndig man. Han kallade till sig Barnabas och Saulus och begärde att få höra Guds ord.

⁷who was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man; this one having called for Barnabas and Saul, did desire to hear the word of God,

⁸Men Elymas (eller trollkarlen, ty namnet har den betydelsen) stod emot dem och ville hindra landshövdingen från att komma till tro.

⁸and there withstood them Elymas the magian — for so is his name interpreted — seeking to pervert the proconsul from the faith.

⁹Saulus, som ock kallades Paulus, uppfylldes då av helig ande och fäste ögonen på honom

⁹And Saul — who also [is] Paul — having been filled with the Holy Spirit, and having looked stedfastly on him,

¹⁰och sade: »O du djävulens barn, du som är full av allt slags svek och arglistighet och en fiende till allt vad rätt är, skall du då icke upphöra att förvrida Herrens raka vägar?

¹⁰said, `O full of all guile, and all profligacy, son of a devil, enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease perverting the right ways of the Lord?

¹¹Se, nu kommer Herrens hand över dig, och du skall till en tid bliva blind och icke kunna se solen.» Och strax föll töcken och mörker över honom; och han gick omkring och sökte efter någon som kunde leda honom.

¹¹and now, lo, a hand of the Lord [is] upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season;` and presently there fell upon him a mist and darkness, and he, going about, was seeking some to lead [him] by the hand;

¹²När då landshövdingen såg vad som hade skett, häpnade han över Herrens lära och kom till tro.

¹²then the proconsul having seen what hath come to pass, did believe, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

¹³Paulus och hans följeslagare lade sedan ut ifrån Pafos och foro till Perge i Pamfylien. Där skilde sig Johannes ifrån dem och vände tillbaka till Jerusalem.

¹³And those about Paul having set sail from Paphos, came to Perga of Pamphylia, and John having departed from them, did turn back to Jerusalem,

¹⁴Men själva foro de vidare från Perge och kommo till Antiokia i Pisidien. Och på sabbatsdagen gingo de in i synagogan och satte sig där.

¹⁴and they having gone through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia, and having gone into the synagogue on the sabbath-day, they sat down,

¹⁵Och sedan man hade föreläst ur lagen och profeterna, sände synagogföreståndarna till dem och läto säga: »Bröder, haven I något förmaningens ord att säga till folket, så sägen det.»

¹⁵and after the reading of the law and of the prophets, the chief men of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, `Men, brethren, if there be a word in you of exhortation unto the people — say on.`

¹⁶Då stod Paulus upp och gav tecken med handen och sade: »I män av Israels hus och I som 'frukten Gud', hören mig.

¹⁶And Paul having risen, and having beckoned with the hand, said, `Men, Israelites, and those fearing God, hearken:

¹⁷Detta folks, Israels, Gud utvalde våra fäder, och han upphöjde detta folk, medan de ännu bodde såsom främlingar i Egyptens land, och förde dem sedan ut därifrån 'med upplyft arm'.

¹⁷the God of this people Israel did choose our fathers, and the people He did exalt in their sojourning in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm did He bring them out of it;

¹⁸Och under en tid av vid pass fyrtio år hade han fördrag med dem i öknen.

¹⁸and about a period of forty years He did suffer their manners in the wilderness,

¹⁹Och sedan han hade utrotat sju folk i Kanaans land, utskiftade han dessas land till arvedelar åt dem.

¹⁹and having destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He did divide by lot to them their land.

²⁰Därunder förgick en tid av vid pass fyra hundra femtio år. Sedan gav han dem domare, ända till profeten Samuels tid.

²⁰`And after these things, about four hundred and fifty years, He gave judges — till Samuel the prophet;

²¹Därefter begärde de en konung; och Gud gav dem Saul, Kis' son, en man av Benjamins stam, för en tid av fyrtio år.

²¹and thereafter they asked for a king, and God did give to them Saul, son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years;

²²Men denne avsatte han och gjorde David till konung över dem. Honom gav han ock sitt vittnesbörd, i det han sade: 'Jag har funnit David, Jessais son, en man efter mitt hjärta. Han skall i alla stycken göra min vilja.'

²²and having removed him, He did raise up to them David for king, to whom also having testified, he said, I found David, the [son] of Jesse, a man according to My heart, who shall do all My will.

²³Av dennes säd har Gud efter sitt löfte låtit Jesus komma, såsom Frälsare åt Israel.

²³`Of this one`s seed God, according to promise, did raise to Israel a Saviour — Jesus,

²⁴Men redan innan han uppträdde, hade Johannes predikat bättringens döpelse för hela Israels folk.

²⁴John having first preached, before his coming, a baptism of reformation to all the people of Israel;

²⁵Och när Johannes höll på att fullborda sitt lopp, sade han: 'Vad I menen mig vara, det är jag icke. Men se, efter mig kommer den vilkens skor jag icke är värdig att lösa av han fötter.'

²⁵and as John was fulfilling the course, he said, Whom me do ye suppose to be? I am not [he], but, lo, he doth come after me, of whom I am not worthy to loose the sandal of [his] feet.

²⁶Mina bröder, I som ären barn av Abrahams släkt, så ock I andra här, I som 'frukten Gud', till oss har ordet om denna frälsning blivit sänt.

²⁶`Men, brethren, sons of the race of Abraham, and those among you fearing God, to you was the word of this salvation sent,

²⁷Ty eftersom Jerusalems invånare och deras rådsherrar icke kände honom, uppfyllde de ock genom sin dom över honom profeternas utsagor, vilka var sabbat föreläses;

²⁷for those dwelling in Jerusalem, and their chiefs, this one not having known, also the voices of the prophets, which every sabbath are being read — having judged [him] — did fulfill,

²⁸och fastän de icke funno honom skyldig till något som förtjänade döden, bådo de likväl Pilatus att han skulle låta döda honom.

²⁸and no cause of death having found, they did ask of Pilate that he should be slain,

²⁹När de så hade fört till fullbordan allt som var skrivet om honom, togo de honom ned från korsets trä och lade honom i en grav.

²⁹and when they did complete all the things written about him, having taken [him] down from the tree, they laid him in a tomb;

³⁰Men Gud uppväckte honom från de döda.

³⁰and God did raise him out of the dead,

³¹Sedan visade han sig under många dagar för dem som med honom hade gått upp från Galileen till Jerusalem, och som nu äro hans vittnen inför folket.

³¹and he was seen for many days of those who did come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.

³²Och vi förkunna för eder det glada budskapet, att det löfte som gavs åt våra fäder, det har Gud låtit gå i fullbordan för oss, deras barn, därigenom att han har låtit Jesus uppstå,

³²`And we to you do proclaim good news — that the promise made unto the fathers,

³³såsom ock är skrivet i andra psalmen: 'Du är min Son, jag har i dag fött dig.'

³³God hath in full completed this to us their children, having raised up Jesus, as also in the second Psalm it hath been written, My Son thou art — I to-day have begotten thee.

³⁴Och att han har låtit honom uppstå från de döda, så att han icke mer skall vända tillbaka till förgängelsen, det har han sagt med dessa ord: 'Jag skall uppfylla åt eder de heliga löften som jag i trofasthet har givit åt David.'

³⁴`And that He did raise him up out of the dead, no more to return to corruption, he hath said thus — I will give to you the faithful kindnesses of David;

³⁵Därför säger han ock i en annan psalm: 'Du skall icke låta din Helige se förgängelsen.'

³⁵wherefore also in another [place] he saith, Thou shalt not give Thy kind One to see corruption,

³⁶När David i sin tid hade tjänat Guds vilja, avsomnade han ju och blev samlad till sina fäder och såg förgängelsen;

³⁶for David, indeed, his own generation having served by the will of God, did fall asleep, and was added unto his fathers, and saw corruption,

³⁷men den som Gud har uppväckt, han har icke sett förgängelsen.

³⁷but he whom God did raise up, did not see corruption.

³⁸Så mån I nu veta, mena bröder, att genom honom syndernas förlåtelse förkunnas för eder,

³⁸`Let it therefore be known to you, men, brethren, that through this one to you is the forgiveness of sins declared,

³⁹och att i honom var och en som tror bliver rättfärdig och friad ifrån allt det varifrån I icke under Moses' lag kunden bliva friade.

³⁹and from all things from which ye were not able in the law of Moses to be declared righteous, in this one every one who is believing is declared righteous;

⁴⁰Sen därför till, att över eder icke må komma det som är sagt hos profeterna:

⁴⁰see, therefore, it may not come upon you that hath been spoken in the prophets:

⁴¹'Sen här, I föraktare, och förundren eder, och bliven till intet; ty en gärning utför jag i edra dagar, en gärning som I alls icke skullen tro, om den förtäljdes för eder.'»

⁴¹See, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish, because a work I — I do work in your days, a work in which ye may not believe, though any one may declare [it] to you.`

⁴²När de sedan gingo därifrån, bad men dem att de nästa sabbat skulle tala för dem om samma sak.

⁴²And having gone forth out of the synagogue of the Jews, the nations were calling upon [them] that on the next sabbath these sayings may be spoken to them,

⁴³Och när församlingen åtskildes, följde många judar och gudfruktiga proselyter med Paulus och Barnabas. Dessa talade då till dem och förmanade dem att stadigt hålla sig till Guds nåd.

⁴³and the synagogue having been dismissed, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes did follow Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, were persuading them to remain in the grace of God.

⁴⁴Följande sabbat kom nästan hela staden tillsammans för att höra Guds ord.

⁴⁴And on the coming sabbath, almost all the city was gathered together to hear the word of God,

⁴⁵Då nu judarna sågo det myckna folket, uppfylldes de av nitälskan och foro ut i smädelser och motsade det som Paulus talade.

⁴⁵and the Jews having seen the multitudes, were filled with zeal, and did contradict the things spoken by Paul — contradicting and speaking evil.

⁴⁶Då togo Paulus och Barnabas mod till sig och sade: »Guds ord måste i första rummet förkunnas för eder. Men eftersom I stöten det bort ifrån eder och icke akten eder själva värdiga det eviga livet, så vända vi oss nu till hedningarna.

⁴⁶And speaking boldly, Paul and Barnabas said, `To you it was necessary that first the word of God be spoken, and seeing ye do thrust it away, and do not judge yourselves worthy of the life age-during, lo, we do turn to the nations;

⁴⁷Ty så har Herren bjudit oss: 'Jag har satt dig till ett ljus för hednafolken, för att du skall bliva till frälsning intill jordens ända.'»

⁴⁷for so hath the Lord commanded us: I have set thee for a light of nations — for thy being for salvation unto the end of the earth.`

⁴⁸När hedningarna hörde detta, blevo de glada och prisade Herrens ord; och de kommo till tro, så många det var beskärt att få evigt liv.

⁴⁸And the nations hearing were glad, and were glorifying the word of the Lord, and did believe — as many as were appointed to life age-during;

⁴⁹Och Herrens ord utbredde sig över hela landet.

⁴⁹and the word of the Lord was spread abroad through all the region.

⁵⁰Men judarna uppeggade de ansedda kvinnor som »fruktade Gud», så ock de förnämsta männen i staden, och uppväckte en förföljelse mot Paulus och Barnabas och drevo dem bort ifrån sin stads område.

⁵⁰And the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the first men of the city, and did raise persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and did put them out from their borders;

⁵¹Dessa skuddade då stoftet av sina fötter mot dem och begåvo sig till Ikonium.

⁵¹and they having shaken off the dust of their feet against them, came to Iconium,

⁵²Och lärjungarna uppfylldes alltmer av glädje och helig ande.

⁵²and the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.
