1Men Satan trädde upp mot Israel och uppeggade David till att räkna Israel.
1And Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.
2Då sade David till Joab och till folkets andra hövitsman: »Gån åstad och räknen Israel, från Beer-Seba ända till Dan, och given mig besked därom, så att jag får veta huru många de äro.»
2And David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.
3Joab svarade: »Må HERREN än vidare föröka sitt folk hundrafalt. Äro de då icke, min herre konung, allasammans min herres tjänare? Varför begär då min herre sådant? Varför skulle man därmed draga skuld över Israel?
3And Joab said, Jehovah add to his people, how many soever they be, a hundredfold: are they not all, my lord O king, my lord's servants? why does my lord require this thing? why should he become a trespass to Israel?
4Likväl blev konungens befallning gällande, trots Joab. Alltså drog Joab ut och for omkring i hela Israel, och kom så hem igen till Jerusalem.
4But the king's word prevailed against Joab; and Joab departed, and went through all Israel, and came [again] to Jerusalem.
5Och Joab uppgav för David vilken slutsumma folkräkningen utvisade: i Israel funnos tillsammans elva hundra tusen svärdbeväpnade män, och i Juda funnos fyra hundra sjuttio tusen svärdbeväpnade man.
5And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people to David. And all they of Israel were eleven hundred thousand men that drew sword; and of Judah, four hundred and seventy thousand men that drew sword.
6Men Levi och Benjamin hade han icke räknat jämte de andra, ty konungens befallning var en styggelse för Joab.
6But Levi and Benjamin he did not count among them; for the king's word was abominable to Joab.
7Vad som hade skett misshagade Gud, och han hemsökte Israel.
7And God was displeased on account of this thing, and he smote Israel.
8Då sade David till Gud: »Jag har syndat storligen däri att jag har gjort detta; men tillgiv nu din tjänares missgärning, ty jag har handlat mycket dåraktigt.»
8And David said to God, I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing; and now, I beseech thee, put away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
9Men HERREN talade till Gad, Davids siare, och sade:
9And Jehovah spoke to Gad, David's seer, saying,
10»Gå och tala till David och säg: Så säger HERREN: Tre ting lägger jag fram för dig; välj bland dem ut åt dig ett som du vill att jag skall göra dig.»
10Go and speak to David saying, Thus saith Jehovah: I offer thee three [things]; choose one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
11Då gick Gad in till David och sade till honom: »Så säger HERREN:
11And Gad came to David, and said to him, Thus saith Jehovah:
12Tag vilketdera du vill: antingen hungersnöd i tre år, eller förödelse i tre månader genom dina ovänners anfall, utan att du kan undkomma dina fienders svärd, eller HERRENS svärd och pest i landet under tre dagar, i det att HERRENS ängel sprider fördärv inom hela Israels område. Eftersinna nu vilket svar jag skall giva honom som har sänt mig.»
12Choose thee, either three years of famine, or three months to be destroyed before thine adversaries while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee, or three days the sword of Jehovah and the pestilence in the land, and the angel of Jehovah destroying through all the borders of Israel. And now consider what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.
13David svarade Gad: »Jag är i stor vånda. Men låt mig då falla i HERRENS hand, ty hans barmhärtighet är mycket stor; i människohand vill jag icke falla.»
13And David said to Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Jehovah, for his mercies are very great; but let me not fall into the hand of man.
14Så lät då HERREN pest komma i Israel, så att sjuttio tusen män av Israel föllo.
14And Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel; and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
15Och Gud sände en ängel mot Jerusalem till att fördärva det. Men när denne höll på att fördärva, såg HERREN därtill och ångrade det onda, så att han sade till ängeln, Fördärvaren: »Det är nog; drag nu din hand tillbaka.» Och HERRENS ängel stod då vid jebuséen Ornans tröskplats.
15And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; and as he was destroying, Jehovah beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough; withdraw now thine hand. And the angel of Jehovah stood by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16När nu David lyfte upp sina ögon och fick se HERRENS ängel stående mellan jorden och himmelen med ett blottat svärd i sin hand, uträckt över Jerusalem, då föllo han och de äldste, höljda i sorgdräkt, ned på sina ansikten.
16And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of Jehovah stand between the earth and the heavens, and his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem. And David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.
17Och David sade till Gud: »Det var ju jag som befallde att folket skulle räknas. Det är då jag som har syndat och gjort vad ont är; men dessa, min hjord, vad hava de gjort? HERRE, min Gud, må din hand vända sig mot mig och min faders hus, men icke mot ditt folk, så att det bliver hemsökt.»
17And David said to God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? It is I that have sinned and done evil; but these sheep, what have they done? Let thy hand, I pray thee, Jehovah my God, be on me and on my father's house; but not on thy people, that they should be smitten.
18Men HERRENS ängel befallde Gad att säga till David att David skulle gå åstad och resa ett altare åt HERREN på jebuséen Ornans tröskplats.
18And the angel of Jehovah commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up and rear an altar to Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19Och David gick åstad på grund av det ord som Gad hade talat i HERRENS namn.
19And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he had spoken in the name of Jehovah.
20Då Ornan nu vände sig om, fick han se ängeln; och hans fyra söner som voro med honom, gömde sig. Men Ornan höll på att tröska vete.
20And Ornan turned back and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
21Och David kom till Ornan; när då Ornan såg upp och fick se David, gick han fram ifrån tröskplatsen och föll ned till jorden på sitt ansikte för David.
21And David came to Ornan, and Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing-floor, and bowed himself to David with [his] face to the ground.
22Och David sade till Ornan: »Giv mig den plats där du tröskar din säd, så att jag där kan bygga ett altare åt HERREN; giv mig den för full betalning; och må så hemsökelsen upphöra bland folket.»
22And David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of the threshing-floor, that I may build an altar in it to Jehovah: grant it to me for the full money, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
23Då sade Ornan till David: »Tag den, och må sedan min herre konungen göra vad honom täckes. Se, här giver jag dig fäkreaturen till brännoffer och tröskvagnarna till ved och vetet till spisoffer; alltsammans giver jag.»
23And Ornan said to David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his sight: see, I give the oxen for the burnt-offering, and the threshing-sledges for wood, and the wheat for the oblation; I give it all.
24Men konung David svarade Ornan: »Nej, jag vill köpa det för full betalning; ty jag vill icke taga åt HERREN det som är ditt, och offra brännoffer som jag har fått för intet.»
24And king David said to Ornan, No; but I will in any case buy [them] for the full money; for I will not take that which is thine for Jehovah, to offer up a burnt-offering without cost.
25Och David gav åt Ornan för platsen sex hundra siklar guld, i full vikt.
25And David gave to Ornan for the place in shekels of gold the weight of six hundred [shekels].
26Och David byggde där ett altare åt HERREN och offrade brännoffer och tackoffer. Han ropade till HERREN, och han svarade honom med eld från himmelen på brännoffersaltaret.
26And David built there an altar to Jehovah, and offered up burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and called upon Jehovah; and he answered him from the heavens by fire upon the altar of burnt-offering.
27Och på HERRENS befallning stack ängeln sitt svärd tillbaka i skidan.
27And Jehovah spoke to the angel; and he put up his sword again into its sheath.
28Då, när David förnam att HERREN hade bönhört honom på jebuséen Ornans tröskplats, offrade han där.
28At that time when David saw that Jehovah had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
29Men HERRENS tabernakel, som Mose hade låtit göra i öknen, stod jämte brännoffersaltaret, vid den tiden på offerhöjden i Gibeon.
29And the tabernacle of Jehovah, which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt-offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.
30Dock vågade David icke komma inför Guds ansikte för att söka honom; så förskräckt var han för HERRENS ängels svärd.
30But David could not go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of Jehovah.
