¹Bärgen edert gods ut ur Jerusalem, I Benjamins barn, stöten i basun i Tekoa, och resen upp ett högt baner ovanför Bet-Hackerem; ty en olycka hotar från norr, med stor förstöring.

¹Flee for safety, ye children of Benjamin, out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a signal in Beth-haccerem; for evil appeareth out of the north, and a great destruction.

²Hon som är så fager och förklemad, dottern Sion, henne skall jag förgöra.

²The comely and delicate one do I cut off, the daughter of Zion.

³Herdar skola komma över henne med sina hjordar; de skola slå upp sina tält runt omkring henne, avbeta var och en sitt stycke.

³Shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch [their] tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.

⁴Ja, invigen eder till strid mot henne. »Upp, låt oss draga åstad, medan middagsljuset varar! Ack att dagen redan lider till ända! Ack att aftonens skuggor förlängas!

⁴Prepare war against her. Arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day hath declined, for the shadows of the evening are lengthening.

⁵Välan, så låt oss draga ditupp om natten och förstöra hennes palatser.»

⁵Arise, and let us go up by night, and let us destroy her palaces.

⁶Ty så säger HERREN Sebaot: Fällen träd och kasten upp vallar emot Jerusalem. Hon är staden som skall hemsökas, hon som i sig har idel förtryck

⁶For thus hath Jehovah of hosts said: Hew ye down trees, and cast a mound against Jerusalem. She is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.

⁷Likasom en brunn låter vatten välla fram, så låter hon ondska framvälla. Våld och förödelse hör man där, sår och slag äro beständigt inför min åsyn.

⁷As a well poureth forth her waters, so she poureth forth her wickedness: violence and destruction are heard in her; before me continually are grief and wounds.

⁸Låt varna dig, Jerusalem, så att min själ ej vänder sig ifrån dig, så att jag icke gör dig till en ödemark, till ett obebott land.

⁸Be thou instructed, Jerusalem, lest my soul be alienated from thee; lest I make thee a desolation, a land not inhabited.

⁹Så säger HERREN Sebaot: En efterskörd, likasom på ett vinträd, skall man hålla på kvarlevan av Israel. Räck ut din hand åter och åter, såsom när man plockar av druvor från rankorna.

⁹Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: They shall thoroughly glean like a vine the remnant of Israel: turn back thy hand, as a grape-gatherer unto the baskets.

¹⁰Men inför vem skall jag tala och betyga för att bliva hörd? Se, deras öron äro oomskurna, så att de icke kunna höra. Ja, HERRENS ord har blivit till smälek bland dem; de hava intet behag därtill.

¹⁰To whom shall I speak and testify, that they may hear? Behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of Jehovah is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

¹¹Därför är jag uppfylld av HERRENS vrede, jag förmår icke hålla den inne. Utgjut den över barnen på gatan och över alla de unga männens samkväm; ja, både man och kvinna skola drabbas därav, jämväl den gamle och den som har fyllt sina dagars mått.

¹¹And I am full of the fury of Jehovah, I am weary with holding in. Pour it out upon the children in the street, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken; the aged with him [that is] full of days.

¹²Och deras hus skola gå över i främmandes ägo så ock deras åkrar och deras hustrur, ty jag vill uträcka min hand mot landets inbyggare, säger HERREN.

¹²And their houses shall be turned unto others, [their] fields and wives together; for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith Jehovah.

¹³Ty alla, både små och stora, söka där orätt vinning, och både profeter och präster fara allasammans med lögn,

¹³For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them, every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest, every one dealeth falsely.

¹⁴de taga det lätt med helandet av mitt folks skada; de säga: »Allt står väl till, allt står väl till», och dock står icke allt väl till.

¹⁴And they have healed the breach of the daughter of my people lightly, saying, Peace, peace! when there is no peace.

¹⁵De skola komma på skam, ty de övade styggelse. Likväl känna de alls icke någon skam och veta icke av någon blygsel. Därför skola de falla bland de andra; när min hemsökelse träffar dem, skola de komma på fall, säger HERREN,

¹⁵Are they ashamed that they have committed abomination? Nay, they are not at all ashamed, neither know they what it is to blush. Therefore they shall fall among them that fall; at the time that I visit them they shall stumble, saith Jehovah.

¹⁶Så sade HERREN: »Ställen eder vid vägarna och sen till, och frågen efter forntidens stigar, frågen vilken väg som är den goda vägen, och vandren på den, så skolen I finna ro för edra själar.» Men de svarade: »Vi vilja icke vandra på den.»

¹⁶Thus saith Jehovah: Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the ancient paths, which is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk [therein].

¹⁷Och när jag då satte väktare över eder och sade: »Akten på basunens ljud», svarade de: »Vi vilja icke akta därpå.»

¹⁷Also I have set watchmen over you: -- Hearken ye to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

¹⁸Hören därför, I hednafolk, och märk, du menighet, vad som sker bland dem.

¹⁸Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O assembly, what is among them.

¹⁹Ja hör, du jord: Se, jag skall låta olycka komma över detta folk, såsom en frukt av deras anslag, eftersom de icke akta på mina ord, utan förkasta min lag.

¹⁹Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, the fruit of their thoughts; for they have not hearkened unto my words, and as to my law, they have rejected it.

²⁰Vad frågar jag efter rökelse, komme den ock från Saba, eller efter bästa kalmus ifrån fjärran land? Edra brännoffer täckas mig icke, och edra slaktoffer behaga mig icke.

²⁰To what purpose should there come to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt-offerings are not acceptable, nor are your sacrifices pleasing unto me.

²¹Därför säger HERREN så: Se, jag skall lägga stötestenar för detta folk; och genom dem skola både fader och söner komma på fall, den ene borgaren skall förgås med den andre.

²¹Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will lay stumbling-blocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall over them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

²²Så säger HERREN: Se, ett folk kommer från nordlandet, ett stort folk reser sig vid jordens yttersta ända.

²²Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation is stirred up from the uttermost parts of the earth.

²³De föra båge och lans, de äro grymma och utan förbarmande. Dånet av dem är såsom havets brus, och på sina hästar rida de fram, rustade såsom kämpar till strid, mot dig, du dotter Sion.

²³They lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as a man for the battle, against thee, daughter of Zion.

²⁴När vi höra ryktet om dem, sjunka våra händer ned, ängslan griper oss, ångest lik en barnaföderskas.

²⁴We have heard the report thereof: our hands are grown feeble; anguish hath taken hold of us, pain as of a woman that travaileth.

²⁵Gå icke ut på marken, och vandra ej på vägen, ty fienden bär svärd; skräck från alla sidor!

²⁵Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for [there is] the sword of the enemy, terror is on every side.

²⁶Du dotter mitt folk, höll dig i sorgdräkt, vältra dig i aska, höj sorgelåt likasom efter ende sonen, och håll bitter dödsklagan; ty plötsligt kommer förhärjaren över oss.

²⁶Daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and roll thyself in ashes: make mourning, [as] for an only son -- bitter lamentation; for the spoiler cometh suddenly upon us.

²⁷Jag har satt dig till en proberare i mitt folk -- såväl som till ett fäste -- på det att du må lära känna och pröva deras väg.

²⁷I have set thee among my people as an assayer, a fortress, that thou mayest know and try their way.

²⁸De äro allasammans avfälliga och gensträviga, de gå med förtal, de äro koppar och järn, allasammans äro de fördärvliga människor.

²⁸They are all the most rebellious of rebels, going about with slander: they are bronze and iron; they are all corrupters.

²⁹Blåsbälgen pustar, men ur elden kommer allenast bly fram; allt luttrande är förgäves, slagget bliver ändå icke frånskilt.

²⁹The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed by the fire; they have melted, and melted in vain; and the bad are not plucked away.

³⁰»Ett silver som må kastas bort», så kan man kalla dem, ty HERREN har förkastat dem.

³⁰Reprobate silver shall they call them, for Jehovah hath rejected them.
