1Och Hiram, konungen i Tyrus, skickade sändebud till David med cederträ, därjämte ock murare och timmermän, för att de skulle bygga honom ett hus.
1Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.
2Och David märkte att HERREN hade befäst honom såsom konung över Israel; ty han hade låtit hans rike bliva övermåttan upphöjt, för sitt folk Israels skull.
2David perceived that Yahweh had established him king over Israel; for his kingdom was exalted on high, for his people Israel’s sake.
3Och David tog sig ännu flera hustrur i Jerusalem, och David födde ännu flera söner och döttrar.
3David took more wives at Jerusalem; and David became the father of more sons and daughters.
4Dessa äro namnen på de söner som han fick i Jerusalem: Sammua, Sobab, Natan, Salomo,
4These are the names of the children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
5Jibhar, Elisua, Elpelet,
5and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet,
6Noga, Nefeg, Jafia,
6and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
7Elisama, Beeljada och Elifelet.
7and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
8Men när filistéerna hörde att David hade blivit smord till konung över hela Israel, drogo de allasammans upp för att fånga David. När David hörde detta, drog han ut mot dem.
8When the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David: and David heard of it, and went out against them.
9Då nu filistéerna hade fallit in i Refaimsdalen och där företogo plundringståg,
9Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.
10frågade David Gud: »Skall jag draga upp mot filistéerna? Vill du då giva dem i min hand?» HERREN svarade honom: »Drag upp; jag vill giva dem i din hand.»
10David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?” Yahweh said to him, “Go up; for I will deliver them into your hand.”
11Och de drogo upp till Baal-Perasim, och där slog David dem. Då sade David: »Gud har brutit ned mina fiender genom min hand, likasom en vattenflod bryter ned.» Därav fick det stället namnet Baal-Perasim.
11So they came up to Baal Perazim, and David struck them there; and David said, God has broken my enemies by my hand, like the breach of waters. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim.
12De lämnade där efter sig sina gudar; och David befallde att dessa skulle brännas upp i eld.
12They left their gods there; and David gave commandment, and they were burned with fire.
13Men filistéerna företogo ännu en gång plundringståg i dalen.
13The Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.
14När David då åter frågade Gud, svarade Gud honom: »Du skall icke draga upp efter dem; du må kringgå dem på en omväg, så att du kommer över dem från det håll där bakaträden stå.
14David inquired again of God; and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them. Turn away from them, and come on them over against the mulberry trees.
15Så snart du sedan hör ljudet av steg i bakaträdens toppar, drag då ut till strid, ty då har Gud dragit ut framför dig till att slå filistéernas här.»
15It shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then you shall go out to battle; for God has gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.”
16David gjorde såsom Gud hade bjudit honom; och de slogo filistéernas här och förföljde dem från Gibeon ända till Geser.
16David did as God commanded him: and they struck the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.
17Och ryktet om David gick ut i alla länder, och HERREN lät fruktan för honom komma över alla folk.
17The fame of David went out into all lands; and Yahweh brought the fear of him on all nations.
