1Vad åter angår tid och stund härför, så är det icke behövligt att därom skriva till eder, käre bröder.
1But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.
2Ty I veten själva nogsamt att Herrens dag kommer såsom en tjuv om natten.
2For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.
3Bäst de säga: »Allt står väl till, och ingen fara är på färde», då kommer plötsligt fördärv över dem, såsom födslovåndan över en havande kvinna, och de skola förvisso icke kunna fly undan.
3For when they are saying, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.
4Men I, käre bröder, I leven icke mörker, så att den dagen kan komma över eder såsom en tjuv;
4But you, brothers, aren’t in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.
5I ären ju alla ljusets barn och dagens barn. Ja, vi höra icke natten eller mörkret till;
5You are all children of light, and children of the day. We don’t belong to the night, nor to darkness,
6låtom oss alltså icke sova såsom de andra, utan låtom oss vaka och vara nyktra.
6so then let’s not sleep, as the rest do, but let’s watch and be sober.
7De som sova, de sova om natten, och de som dricka sig druckna, de äro druckna om natten;
7For those who sleep, sleep in the night, and those who are drunk are drunk in the night.
8men vi som höra dagen till, vi må vara nyktra, iklädda trons och kärlekens pansar, med frälsningens hopp såsom hjälm.
8But let us, since we belong to the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation.
9Ty Gud har icke bestämt oss till att drabbas av vrede, utan till att vinna frälsning genom vår Herre, Jesus Kristus,
9For God didn’t appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10som har dött för oss, på det att vi må leva tillika med honom, vare sig vi ännu äro vakna eller vi äro avsomnade.
10who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11Trösten därför varandra, och uppbyggen varandra inbördes, såsom I ock redan gören.
11Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.
12Vi bedja eder, käre bröder, att rätt uppskatta de män som arbeta bland eder, och som äro edra föreståndare i Herren och förmana eder.
12But we beg you, brothers, to know those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you,
13Låten dem vara eder övermåttan kära, för det verks skull som de utföra. Hållen frid inbördes.
13and to respect and honor them in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
14Vi bjuda eder, käre bröder: Förmanen de oordentliga, uppmuntren de klenmodiga, tagen eder an de svaga, visen tålamod mot var man.
14We exhort you, brothers, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient toward all.
15Sen till, att ingen vedergäller någon med ont för ont; faren fastmer alltid efter att göra vad gott är mot varandra och mot var man.
15See that no one returns evil for evil to anyone, but always follow after that which is good, for one another, and for all.
16Varen alltid glada.
16Rejoice always.
17Bedjen oavlåtligen.
17Pray without ceasing.
18Tacken Gud i alla livets förhållanden. Ty att I så gören är Guds vilja i Kristus Jesus.
18In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.
19Utsläcken icke Anden,
19Don’t quench the Spirit.
20förakten icke profetisk tal,
20Don’t despise prophesies.
21men pröven allt, behållen vad gott är,
21Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good.
22avhållen eder från allt ont, av vad slag det vara må.
22Abstain from every form of evil.
23Men fridens Gud själv helge eder till hela eder varelse, så att hela eder ande och eder själ och eder kropp finnas bevarade ostraffliga vid vår Herres, Jesu Kristi, tillkommelse.
23May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24Trofast är han som kallar eder; han skall ock utföra sitt verk.
24He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.
25Käre bröder, bedjen för oss.
25Brothers, pray for us.
26Hälsen alla bröderna med en helig kyss.
26Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
27Jag besvär eder vid Herren att låta uppläsa detta brev för alla bröderna.
27I solemnly command you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the holy brothers.
28Vår Herres, Jesu Kristi, nåd vare med eder.
28The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
