¹"Nimewaambieni hayo kusudi msiiache imani yenu.

¹These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

²Watu watawatenga ninyi na masunagogi yao. Tena, wakati unakuja ambapo kila atakayewaua ninyi atadhani anamhudumia Mungu.

²They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

³Watawatendeeni mambo hayo kwa sababu hawamjui Baba, wala hawanijui mimi.

³And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

⁴Basi, nimewaambieni mambo haya ili saa yake itakapofika mkumbuke kwamba niliwaambieni. "Sikuwaambieni mambo haya tangu mwanzo kwa sababu nilikuwa pamoja nanyi.

⁴But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

⁵Lakini sasa namwendea yule aliyenituma; na hakuna hata mmoja wenu anayeniuliza: Unakwenda wapi?

⁵But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

⁶Kwa kuwa nimewaambieni mambo hayo mmejaa huzuni mioyoni mwenu.

⁶But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

⁷Lakini, nawaambieni ukweli: afadhali kwenu mimi niende zangu, maana nisipokwenda Msaidizi hatakuja kwenu. Lakini nikienda, basi, nitamtuma kwenu.

⁷Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

⁸Naye atakapokuja atawathibitishia walimwengu kwamba wamekosea kuhusu dhambi, uadilifu na hukumu ya Mungu.

⁸And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

⁹Wamekosea kuhusu dhambi kwa sababu hawaniamini;

⁹Of sin, because they believe not on me;

¹⁰kuhusu uadilifu, kwa sababu naenda zangu kwa Baba, nanyi hamtaniona tena;

¹⁰Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

¹¹kuhusu hukumu kwa sababu mkuu wa ulimwengu huu amekwisha hukumiwa.

¹¹Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

¹²"Ninayo bado mengi ya kuwaambieni, ila kwa sasa hamwezi kuyastahimili.

¹²I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

¹³Lakini atakapokuja huyo Roho wa kweli atawaongoza kwenye ukweli wote; maana hatasema kwa mamlaka yake mwenyewe, bali atawaambieni yote atakayosikia, na atasema mambo yatakayokuwa yanakuja.

¹³Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

¹⁴Yeye atanitukuza mimi kwa kuwa atawaambieni yale atakayopata kutoka kwangu.

¹⁴He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

¹⁵Vyote alivyo navyo Baba ni vyangu; ndiyo maana nimesema kwamba huyo Roho Mtakatifu atawaambieni yale atakayopata kutoka kwangu.

¹⁵All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

¹⁶"Bado kitambo kidogo nanyi hamtaniona; na baada ya kitambo kidogo tena mtaniona!"

¹⁶A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

¹⁷Hapo baadhi ya wanafunzi wake wakaulizana, "Ana maana gani anapotwambia: Bado kitambo kidogo nanyi hamtaniona; na baada ya kitambo kidogo tena mtaniona? Tena anasema: Kwa kuwa ninakwenda kwa Baba!"

¹⁷Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

¹⁸Basi, wakawa wanaulizana, "Ana maana gani anaposema: Bado kitambo kidogo? Hatuelewi anaongelea nini."

¹⁸They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

¹⁹Yesu alijua kwamba walitaka kumwuliza, basi akawaambia, "Je, mnaulizana juu ya yale niliyosema: Bado kitambo kidogo nanyi hamtaniona; na baada ya kitambo kidogo tena mtaniona?

¹⁹Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

²⁰Nawaambieni kweli, ninyi mtalia na kuomboleza, lakini ulimwengu utafurahi: mtaona huzuni lakini huzuni yenu itageuka kuwa furaha.

²⁰Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

²¹Wakati mama anapojifungua huona huzuni kwa sababu saa ya maumivu imefika; lakini akisha jifungua hayakumbuki tena maumivu hayo kwa sababu ya furaha kwamba mtu amezaliwa duniani.

²¹A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

²²Ninyi pia mna huzuni sasa; lakini nitawajieni tena, nanyi mtajaa furaha mioyoni mwenu, na furaha hiyo hakuna mtu atakayeiondoa kwenu.

²²And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

²³Siku hiyo hamtaniomba chochote. Kweli nawaambieni, chochote mtakachomwomba Baba kwa jina langu, atawapeni.

²³And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

²⁴Mpaka sasa hamjaomba chochote kwa jina langu. Ombeni nanyi mtapata ili furaha yenu ikamilike.

²⁴Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

²⁵"Nimewaambieni mambo hayo kwa mafumbo. Lakini wakati utakuja ambapo sitasema tena nanyi kwa mafumbo, bali nitawaambieni waziwazi juu ya Baba.

²⁵These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

²⁶Siku hiyo mtaomba kwa jina langu, na siwaambii kwamba nitamwomba Baba kwa niaba yenu;

²⁶At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

²⁷maana yeye mwenyewe anawapenda ninyi, kwa sababu ninyi mmenipenda mimi na mmeamini kwamba nimetoka kwa Mungu.

²⁷For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

²⁸Mimi nilitoka kwa Baba, nikaja ulimwenguni; na sasa nauacha ulimwengu na kurudi kwa Baba."

²⁸I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

²⁹Basi, wanafunzi wake wakamwambia, "Ahaa! Sasa unasema waziwazi kabisa bila kutumia mafumbo.

²⁹His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.

³⁰Sasa tunajua kwamba wewe unajua kila kitu, na huna haja ya kuulizwa maswali na mtu yeyote; kwa hiyo tunaamini kwamba umetoka kwa Mungu."

³⁰Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

³¹Yesu akawajibu, "Je, mnaamini sasa?

³¹Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

³²Wakati unakuja, tena umekwisha fika, ambapo ninyi nyote mtatawanyika kila mtu kwake, nami nitaachwa peke yangu. Kumbe, lakini mimi siko peke yangu, maana Baba yu pamoja nami.

³²Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

³³Nimewaambieni mambo haya ili mpate kuwa na amani katika kuungana nami. Ulimwenguni mtapata masumbuko; lakini jipeni moyo! Mimi nimeushinda ulimwengu!"

³³These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
