¹Mapigano na magombano yote kati yenu yanatoka wapi? Hutoka katika tamaa zenu mbaya ambazo hupigana daima ndani yenu.

¹Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members?

²Mnatamani vitu na kwa vile hamvipati mko tayari kuua; mwatamani sana kupata vitu, lakini hamvipati, hivyo mnagombana na kupigana. Hampati kile mnachotaka kwa sababu hamkiombi kwa Mungu.

²You lust, and don’t have. You kill, covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask.

³Tena, mnapoomba hampati kwa sababu mnaomba kwa nia mbaya; mnaomba ili mpate kutosheleza tamaa zenu.

³You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures.

⁴Ninyi ni watu msio na uaminifu kama wazinzi. Je, hamjui kwamba kuwa rafiki wa ulimwengu ni kuwa adui wa Mungu? Yeyote anayetaka kuwa rafiki wa ulimwengu anajifanya adui wa Mungu.

⁴You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

⁵Msifikiri kwamba Maandiko Matakatifu yamesema maneno ya bure, yanaposema: "Roho ambaye Mungu amemweka ndani yetu ana wivu mkubwa."

⁵Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously”?

⁶Lakini, neema tunayopewa na Mungu ina nguvu zaidi; kama yasemavyo Maandiko: "Mungu huwapinga wenye majivuno lakini huwapa neema wanyenyekevu."

⁶But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Proverbs 3:34

⁷Basi, jiwekeni chini ya Mungu; mpingeni Ibilisi naye atawakimbieni.

⁷Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

⁸Mkaribieni Mungu, naye atakuja karibu nanyi. Osheni mikono yenu enyi wakosefu! Safisheni mioyo yenu enyi wanafiki!

⁸Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

⁹Oneni huzuni, lieni na kuomboleza; kicheko chenu na kiwe kilio; na furaha yenu iwe huzuni kubwa.

⁹Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom.

¹⁰Nyenyekeeni mbele ya Bwana, naye atawainueni.

¹⁰Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

¹¹Ndugu, msilaumiane ninyi kwa ninyi. Anayemlaumu ndugu yake na kumhukumu, huyo huilaumu na kuihukumu Sheria. Kama ukiihukumu Sheria, basi, wewe huitii Sheria, bali waihukumu.

¹¹Don’t speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.

¹²Mungu peke yake ndiye mwenye kuweka Sheria na kuhukumu. Ni yeye peke yake anayeweza kuokoa na kuangamiza. Basi, wewe ni nani hata umhukumu binadamu mwenzako?

¹²Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another?

¹³Basi, sasa sikilizeni ninyi mnaosema: "Leo au kesho tutakwenda katika mji fulani na kukaa huko mwaka mzima tukifanya biashara na kupata faida."

¹³Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit.”

¹⁴Ninyi hamjui hata maisha yenu yatakavyokuwa kesho! Ninyi ni kama ukungu unaotokea kwa muda mfupi tu na kutoweka tena.

¹⁴Whereas you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.

¹⁵Mngalipaswa kusema: "Bwana akitujalia tutaishi na tutafanya hiki au kile."

¹⁵For you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.”

¹⁶Lakini sasa mwajivuna na kujigamba; majivuno ya namna hiyo ni mabaya.

¹⁶But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.

¹⁷Basi, mtu ambaye hafanyi lile jambo jema analojua kwamba anapaswa kulifanya, anatenda dhambi.

¹⁷To him therefore who knows to do good, and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin.
